It's yer old pal DeZHy! Sorry....apologies to all, my computer has been sick since Miss-Matt-Cameron- Hootchie-Herself Maria Joseph's b-day. So I know that many of you have heard this sob story so many times...but oh well, this is just to let you know what was what... Apologies to some of the people that I was trading with, but kids, I love you and yer addie's were on my computer, so all is not well. If ya can be patient, I'll try and get my computer up and runnin' and get to you as soon as possible. Ah, it's the year anniversary of that fateful day of....*tears*, well I suspect y'all know, being on this list and all. I'm sorry that I'm a day late/early, however ya celebrate it. I just wanted to send out my "message of love" to the peeps I love. I know it's rambling whatever. Yesterday one of my supervisors at Tower was nice enough to let me hear 7 SG songs....and then he went to a CREED concert...*retch* Anyway I figured that I might share that awful day with y'all, but why....yer all prolly doing it, and I can't check cuz I accidentally signed my self off the list, and the site's closed or whatever so I can't find the damn on button for the list. So I guess this post via-Koggy (wut the hell is a Koggle anyay? like I should be talking...) was sent to say HELLO! Sorry Seth for interrupting and disrupting the cosmic balance of SOMMS. I've got this cool idea for a new Somms shirt, and I was wondering if anyone was interested in buying one, but the catch is that I have to get something off the page first. But I'd like to know who would be interested. Your faithful Sommstress, the original pretty noose (one year yesterday)::sob:: ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Apr 1998 16:18:03 -0500 From: Aladdin Hassanein Subject: Re: Toy Box I think Toy Box is about wanting to return to the innocence of childhood. It starts out with a description of life as a child. "Eyes to sun, she lays in peace Eyes bear complacence" As a child, life is more peaceful and simpler since there are not many responsibilites. A child is innocent of the many evils of life and are very impressionable since they feel that all that adults speak is the truth "Brown, the meadow grows tall to the sun" This describes growing up and maturation by using a the grassy meadows as a metaphor of growth and the sun symbolic of life. The vegetation on meadows start out green when it is "newer" and as it becomes ripe, it browns. This symbolizes maturation and growing towards the sun sybolizes approaching the life (along with it's truths and evils) as one goes through maturation and ages. "Seasons have come, they have gone" This also describes the years passing. The usage of "seasons going by" is a trademark of Chris. "Buried in dirt, her torso lays One limb dangles" The song now shifts to describing adulthood. As one gets older, they have experienced humiliation and have learned how unfair life can be. They have been stepped on and their original perspective on life has been changed and disfigured throughout their experience of life. "Please take me back to my healing home Please take me back to my toy box Ours not for their own....... ....Please take me back to my little girl's hand" The narrator wants to return to the purity of innocence of life as a child. The "Toy Box" contains toys, a major part of childhood. Symbollically being in the toy box, the toybox would act as a barrier protecting the person from the real world and keeping them in the innocent world of childhood which lies in the toybox. "My little girl" in the song refers to the person's childhood self. In a nutshell, the song is about returning to the innocence that used to be. This can also be applied to a war or to virginity. Chris writes about the theme of growing up in "Head Down" and "Seasons". -----Original Message----- From: Kathie and David To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Date: Tuesday, April 07, 1998 11:40 PM Subject: Toy Box >Since we're doing interpretations (whether or not there are a few people who >don't seem to enjoy them :P) I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about >"Toy Box".
