(yeah it might have been out for a little while, so i was lazy hehe) One of the best parts of it was the scene with Sunshower playing in the background.. it starts off all echo-y and dreamy and fairly quiet, but i can still tell it's Chris's voice.. and when Fin and Estella ..well.. you know.. do stuff together, all you hear is Mr Cornell's voice and the guitar playing... it's the best experience.. i would DEFINITELY pay big bucks to go and sit in a cinema and watch Soundgarden videos.. oooh and in surround sound.. :) :) :) but i'm getting off the track here.. the song makes the mood.. it makes the scene what it is.. Fin is kind of nervous of being so intimate with Estella, and you hear Chris say "and it's alright" or something similar in the song, and it IS alright.. he just lets go of his worry. I wonder if maybe the song isn't about anything that Chris thought of.. maybe he was told to write a song that would fit the theme and the feeling of the movie.. the descriptive lines could certainly describe Estella, and you should know how obsessed with her Fin was.. The sad and anguish in some of the lines is appropriate for the movie, too. He felt so much pain because she would never act like she loved him, she probably DIDN'T love him... yet every time they met up together, she would make him feel like the only person who existed (think of the scene where she poses for him nude).. she could *be* the sweet sunshower.. he thinks it's all rain and gray and depression, and when he's as low as he thinks possible, she acts as a sun.. and the storm is not as dark/his life is not as bad as it seemed.. it's a sunshower.. Chris was smart to use that word for this song.. There are similar qualities to 'Seasons' of course.. a solo.. a slow song.. use of imagery.. but i don't think that Chris could have done any other style for this movie in particular. He's not 'copping out' by writing a song similar to Seasons at all. I can see now that people might just brush him off as being a soppy solo artist, but give him a break.. it's only 2 of the songs he's done by himself.. well that's my 2 cents on that.. I would vote "i like it" for the poll, Bill.. Crossing All Over 3 -Cronky ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 22:44:51 -0500 From: Kathie and David Subject: Toy Box Since we're doing interpretations (whether or not there are a few people who don't seem to enjoy them :P) I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about "Toy Box". This has always been one of my favorite SG songs, but when I've tried to get more info about it (I'm not even sure who wrote it - Chris I assume) its like the band has disowned it. There is no mention of it on the official site (except as part of the Flower EP). Its not on the list of songs you can choose as your favorite, and I've never been able to even get the "official" lyrics. Does anyone know the story about this song? For some reason from the first time I heard it the image of Stonehenge has come to mind, and some kind of ritual human sacrifice this person got involved with and then freaked out. I know, it sounds nuts, but that's what I always picture when I hear the song. Another idea I've had is of a person in a war, seeing the body of someone he may have known (or like in Vietnam, perhaps had a relationship with), and wishing he could be back when he was innocent. What are other people's thoughts about this song? I know other people have expressed the idea that the song is about the end of the band, but this was the first time I could actually see that in the song. Reading your interpretation I can believe that Chris meant the song for us, and I find that very moving. Thank you for making me believe that he actually may have cared enough to devote a song to us.
