I see a listing on a music store's web site for "Accoustic Pollution," supposedly another Soundgarden bootleg.. Does anyone know any information about this one? Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 08:12:22 PST From: New Damage Subject: rumours... first it steals your mind... SG getting back together, huh ? Here's a little list for those of you who tend to believe what they want to believe... ;(( As cool as it would be to have SG back, you still have to remember that: 1) from what I saw on the list, the rumour was started by a DJ... since when do we believe a stupid fucking DJ?!?! 2) SG have just released a compilation CD - essentially, a "Greatest Hits" compilation. Wouldn't it be embarassing to reunite right after you've made your fans spend money on a "Greatest Hits" CD just because nothing else is new ? 3) some ppl have said that SG said they want to split up when what they really wanted was a break or something. This idea, while being so full of hope - "oh so they will get back together, right? tell me they will, please!" - eventually leads you to the thought that SG have mercilessly fucked with the feelings of all their fans, risked having some disappointed fans committing suicide, and who knows what else. I'm sure everybody will agree that Soundgarden are not the same type of stars as Take That etc. SG are serious musicians, and when they have actually said something themselves - we better believe it. Sorry if I've put some1 down. Additions to this list are always welcome. I like to think about DOTU in general and Boot Camp in particular as the last "words" from soundarden.. The last transmission. The Soundgarden entity had nothing left to say... I had everything on that CD already. I choose to buy it because I wanted the pictures in the booklet and because it is a nice CD to take on trips(when space is limited and I have to choose a few CD's) And I wanted Kim to stay in Beer and Cig money! ;-) I'm sure everyone that bought it had their own reason for doing so. >3) some ppl have said that SG said they want to split up when what they >really wanted was a break or something. I don't think Soundgarden ever made career moves or decisions based on their fan's feelings. You seem to forget it was nothing for them to disappear for a few years between releases.(much to their fans displeasure) They decided to break up for whatever reason(one that we will never know for sure) and can be debated from now til the millennium(hey is this the first time this going to soon be overworked word has been used on SOMMS) If by some decree of the mighty Soundgarden gods they decide to once again work together than they will. If someone wants to be hopeful...why is that a problem? Commit suicide....I think if you were going to off yourself you would of done it by now! Unless you are going to make a grand gesture to do it on the one year anniversary. 8-((( > SG are serious musicians, and when they have actually >said something themselves - we better believe it. When the new CD..."Mr Bunchypants rides again" is on the shelf than we can all believe it. Geoff ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 14:58:35 -0500 From: jenny grover Subject: auctions I've been watching the auctions that were brought up on here recently, and it amazes me just how out of hand these things get. I have gotten a FEW, very few, items in auctions, and they were small auctions. Even then I paid a bit much for a couple of things because I didn't know the scarcity or value of the items in question. I've come to the conclusion that this is not a good way to acquire most things. If you are going to participate, set yourself a limit before you start, and then stick with it. It's easy to get caught up in the fever of the competition. I saw a black vinyl RATYW/HIV Baby single go for $90 in one!!! SOMMS rarely finishes at less than $65. If you want to acquire SG stuff, there is lots of it out there for sale at reasonable fixed prices, if you do some hunting. Seek out independent online stores and private sellers. Check out usenet. Look through Goldmine and find any ads with an online site, then bookmark them. And if you can get a phone number from an ad, call for availability, it's faster than waiting for them to check their online orders, you find out right away, and you can just buy it then and there. And shop around! There seems to be a lot of SG items coming out of the woodwork these days, so you can afford to be a little picky. I have not written to the list because there is a lack of anything really interesting going on. Of course the idea of this great band reuniting is enough to make any of us get damn excited. Of course we shouldn't believe a DJ. He could have gotten this from anywhere or nowhere at all. There are a few reasons that I would believe that this would be possible and the reason that the DJ would assume it could be true. One is, we don't know exactly why the band broke up. And all indications are that it was mutual and without much friction between the members ( no egos or drug problems etc.). The main reason that any rumor about a reunion will always be believable for me is because Soundgarden was and still is an unpredictable band, that is why alot really liked this band. I never expected Soundgarden to write a song like Black Hole Sun ( and pull it off brilliantly ) and I never expected them to break up. They don't have to play by the rules. If they want to get back together they will. They finished on their own terms and I expect any reunion to also be on their own terms. They wouldn't care much about having released a greatest hits album. Other bands have continued after greatest hits albums. I fully expect to see them reunited (if for only one night) and playing the music we all fell in love with again, why not sooner than later? ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ IF THIS ISN'T MAKING SENSE IT DOESN'T MAKE IT LIES *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 24 Mar 1998 to 25 Mar 1998 ************************************************
