It was Friday 8th April, the day they found Kurt cobain's body... They just went off the stage and never came back. It made me feel good and bad both at the same time. I can't explain it, but I can tell you a story about how I may have come to this feeling. I LOVE Soundgarden. I am 15 and I enjoy their music, their personalities, and attitude. I was only 12 when I had first heard of Soundgarden and that was by way of MTV and the radio. I heard "Black Hole Sun" and I loved it. I bought the cd and only listened to a few songs. It wasn't until DotU (summer 1996) that I really got into Soundgarden. This was about the time that I turned fifteen. I had a different view of things in life and their lyrics and music were more important to me. One of my friends told me about their earlier albums so I bought them all between July-September of 1996 including some singles that I had found. He also got me tickets to go see them at Brandeis University in MA or CT on November ??, i forget where :( I was so excited. All I did was listen to Soundgarden for a month straight. The week of the show we heard on the radio that it was canceled and would be rescheduled for a later date due to Chris' voice. I was mad at first, but then I told myself that it would be better if we saw them when Chris' voice was in good condition. It was rescheduled for the summer, I think :( I remember getting so hyped up for that show and then it being all taken away from me when Billy (my friend) called me up crying. I asked what happened and he told me the news. I didn't know much about SG back then and so I never really knew why this was happening :( I remember crying for a week straight like while I was going to bed. I had been into this band heavily for about 9 months, and then my heart was fucking torn out and handed to me in a doggy bag. (I'm crying right now as I write this) I just wish I could have seen once in my life. Just that one chance to see Chris scream, Kim play his axe, Ben slamming around, and MATT drumming to "Jesus Christ Pose" all together as one. I know that most of you were long time fans of SG and if you didn't see them I feel even worse for you :( Now....when I heard that SG might regroup on SOMMS, it just made me feel awkward. Will they be the same? Will they act like they always did? Will I be able to see them live, and if I do, would it be as great as it would have the first time they were a group? How many albums to go before they break up again? All these questions invaded me at once ;0 I didn't know what to think... Kris Hermansen PS- Did anybody else feel this way or is it just me? <<>> ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 17:38:32 EST From: Gardner167 Subject: sg rumor ball's a' rollin' id hate to bring reality, or negativity as it is commonly know to anyones hopes about sg getting back togeather, so i wont. instead, ill feed the beast... so here goes...and mind you guys, this could be the spawing of a great idea, should it happen. if sg comes to miami. "my home town" i'll take in the first 5 sommsters that want to come down to see the show in to my house for the trip..... "we are planning (room and board) for people we dont know to go to a concert that doesnt exist"....... i love it. mike. "trying though i know its wrong" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 17:49:37 EST From: power child Subject: comic books and the ramones 1) the pearl jam soundgarden comic book is not rare. i keep finding copies for about $4 and buying them for friends. if you want to spend megabux on this, go right ahead 2) ramones box set is very cool. however if you do not like the ramones do not buy it because its not like you can just forward through to the parts you like and watch them -- the coolest parts are watching chris and ben for example sit in the dressing room with the ramones, reflected in the mirror. hearing/watching an obviously drunk chris cornell encourage the crowd to cheer more is also cool but is like 20 seconds out of the whole thing. so dont buy it unless you like the ramones because it is not cheap and has very little content to make it worth your money. but i will say that it is a very very good history fo the ramones if you were interested in them. my sister bought it and i 'borrowed' it from her when i was home last time and liked it so much i went and bought my own with some christmas money. but only really insane people with no life besides soundgarden would buy it just for the soundgarden content. ~the powerchild ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 17:51:59 EST From: XAnavriNX Subject: SG shows I feel so sorry. I mean really sorry. To all of the people who were supposed to go to Soundgarden shows which were canceled due to Chris's voice being fucked up. I was at the last or pre last show before his voice was fucked up. SG had 3 shows in NY's Roseland. Nov 16th, 17th, and 18th. I went to the one on the 16th. SG played for over 2 hours!!! and on the 17th. the show was canceled midway(I think it was after about 6 songs) because his voice started fucking up. The show on the 18th. was canceled altogether and I am guessing the rest were canceled after that. Did SG play any more shows after that? I feel so guilty about being one of the last to enjoy SG live(One of the most incredible live bands)... I'm sorry. Be aware that Robotic Lunch is a different version from the one on the 10". You can e-mail Mans Ruin records at mansruin@serious.com and request a catalogue, or some record stores will order it for you. And yes, I have the video and CD set of the Ramones We're Outta Here (the video was free with the cd purchase). It is cool, and I enjoy the video more than the cd. The cd is of the last performance with guests including Ben Shepherd (I believe Chris only introduces the encore and doesn't perform) and Eddie Vedder. The video includes clips from the last show as well as interviews with the Ramones, past and, well, recent past, and some of their musical contemporaries, and archival footage from early shows and TV performances. There is a scene with Chris and Ben present in the dressing room, and also part of Chinese Rock, including Chris's introduction and Ben playing guitar. To be honest, I don't remember which song Eddie is on (the credits don't say) or if he's in the vid (I THINK he is), as I haven't watched it or listened to it lately or often (not because I don't like it, but because I just haven't had time). If you are a Ramones fan, it's a cool thing. If you are a Ramones/Soundgarden fan, it's a cool thing. If you are just a Soundgarden fan, it's a cool thing as long as you don't expect a lot of SG content. Oh, and there's a nice pic of Chris and Ben with C.J. and Joey in the cd booklet. I would accept the idea that it was a ploy for kicks more than anything else! just my opinion, Kelly ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Mar 1998 20:13:34 -0500 From: Deborah Servey Subject: Re: Peter Cornell Shows Seattle Sommsters! The DJ was dumb and prolly read the magazine (Hit Parader I think?) from like 3 or 4 months ago that said they were getting back together. Don't want to kill any hopes but do you really think some idiot DJ could possibly have some inside source that we don't? There are prolly a few DJ's on this list. Just to add some fuel to the fire...I keep spotting this little listing in certain online music stores I frequent. It happens when I do a search for SOUNDGARDEN. I start flipping through the list and there it is..."New Single TBA". I know what your thinking, it must be "Bleed Together" or maybe even their catagorization for "Sunshower", but one site has both "BT" singles + the "Sunshower" single and the others all have one or the other listed.
