My bad, and I continue to hang my head in shame. I've gotten a million suggestions about how to play it, and after reading them, I think I'm going to have to learn my notes and chords better. I have just started to play guitar, and instead of taking the conventional route of learning notes and finger positions, I just like to take excerpts from songs and figure them out. It's a bad habit, and I know I should start at the beginning. Does anyone have info. on web sites where I can read stuff and get practice tab as opposed to buying books or paying for lessons. Also, my roomie and I are trying to find a (functioning) version of Sunshower on MP3. Anyone, please help. I hate these stupid messages. In a lot of ways, music is like love, both the emotion and the "act". Do you fuck fast? Does it make you a "good lover"? Is there a top 100 fast guitar player/fast fucker?? And if so, what does it bring to you? I know I should'nt even reply to this message, but I couldn't help. Sorry. PIF ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 18:21:01 +0100 From: Guillaume PETETIN Subject: ...... > I would only play it how the tuning is. Any other way probably sounds bad. With this state of mind, SG would never have tried anything other than standard tuning! They even tried the "laziest" tuning ever : every string on E... IMHO, if you must learn musically from soundgarden, one of the important lessons is the open mindedness, in rythms/syncope and tuning!! besides, if you just think any other way "probably" sounds bad, check it, try it. Replace prejudice with personnal experience. Anyway... PIF ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 12:55:20 -0600 From: Bill Subject: To fellow beginning guitarists: I've been playing guitar for only about a month, but I've learned quite a few songs and a lot about playing/composing songs. This is because of an indispensible resource I found: http://www.guitarnotes.com/ I haven't gone through all the resources, but http://www.guitarnotes.com/guitar/notes2/ultimate11.shtml was a really cool link I found where you can print out thousands of chords in PDF format. Also, if you want to play chords differently or figure out what all those chord extensions like sus2, sus4 or maj mean, http://www.dreamscape.com/esmith/dansm/chords/chords.htm is an incredible tutorial on chord theory, naming, transitions, keys... Of course, http://www.olga.net/ can tell you how to play just about anything... of course it has some accuracy problems that you should watch out for... And sunshower.mp3 might just be on the Soundgarden rarities archive! Bill ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 15:52:03 -0500 From: "Christopher L. It's been on my mind for a very long long time. It seems some of you, and Seth, expressed some sort of disappointment over Down on the Upside on this list.....I can't point anymore fingers, because I forget your names :). I am a somewhat relatively new Soundgarden fan.....some of you, like me, probably got into Soundgarden around the Badmotorfinger era. My story is (for those of you who haven't seen it on Koggle's page, I don't know if I explained it enough) is that I never became a hardcore Soundgarden fan until the release of Down on the Upside. For some reason, I never noticed the actual release date of DotU....and I still don't know. But after hearing Pretty Noose, Burden in My Hand, and Blow Up the Outside World I had become a real Soundgarden fan. I did get Boadmotorfinger and Superunknown, but only liked a few songs. After Down on the Upside, I've noticed myself liking 97% of them. Then I got into their older stuff, and NEVER GOT TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT......and I never will......which really sucks..... Anyways, I remember Seth saying something about Soundgarden going downhill after DotU. Maybe I'm wrong, I've probably seen it somewhere else. I was wondering if, since I'm probably a newer fan than most of you, that I accepted DotU more. I sorta worked backwards, from DotU and back. And I find myself listening to it more. What do you all think of DotU, compared against their previous albums? And I find myself listening to it more. What do you all think of >DotU, compared against their previous albums? Personally, I think that Down On The Upside is an excellent album. I have listened to all of Soundgarden's albums over and over again and my conclusion is that DOTUS their third best album. However, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown are, in my opinion, the greatest rock albums ever. They are simply classics and are in a class of their own. DOTUS was an amazing album but it just wasn't a Badmotorfinger or a Superunknown. In that sense, Soundgarden "went down" after Superunknown because there was no way they could go "up". No matter what album they put out after Superunknown, there was almost no way they could top it. -----Original Message----- From: The Cat To: SOMMS@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Date: Tuesday, March 17, 1998 9:02 PM Subject: Soundgarden's Later Stuff >First off...I'm wondering where some of you senior SOMMS members >are....Nahedgehog, you listening? :) > >Anyways, I just want to address this, cuz it's long overdue. Now all I have to do is find myself a copy...Ya know, I actually saw a copy of it back in '93 or '94 at a local Record Swap. There was an "out of print" sticker on it, and it was 15.99. I was thinking of buying, and I asked my friend what was so special about it. He said that a few copies were printed with the "SOUNDGARDEN" text written in the wrong spot - nothing special right? Well, I didn't realize I had missed out on this until 2 years later. Oh well. By the way, did any of you Chicago Sommsters see Megadeth at the Metro or the Aragon? Both were great shows. Metallica tix go on sale Saturday. They're playing w/Days of the New and Jerry Cantrell. anyone think there's a chance that AiC will be there? kevin ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 17 Mar 1998 to 18 Mar 1998 ************************************************
