Um, I saw SG at Lollapalooza in '96 in Des Moines, and the guys played a little song by the doors, "Waiting for the Sun". Does anybody know if they played this anyplace else, and if they did, did they get a copy of it? Just wondering........ Ben regularly used Fender Jazz basses, P-basses, and P-bass Specials, at least some of which were outfitted with Seymour Duncan pick-ups. He had some other basses, too, like the one in the second video version of Pretty Noose (which I'm guessing is a Hoffner, but there are some others like Lady Lucks that look like that too). And if anyone knows what he's playing in the SNL performance, please let me know. It's not one I recognize. Circa 1994, at least, he was using Dean Markley flatwound strings, which you will play hell finding! It took me 5 months to track down someone who would even special order them for me and it took two months for them to come in, but they are wonderful strings. Given that he is a great Songwriter/arranger/producer/rythmist/singer... Of course he can be a "great" soloist... But what does it mean??? It can mean anything... just listen to the distant slide part in the black hole sun intro... Anyway, let's talk about Kim : I think he has a very own guitar sound, and style and that he can give birth to great solos. BUT, he has the "Kirk hammet" syndrom That is, playing fast (and dirty) and overusing the wah wah... Just using these tricks too much... maybe just playing too much solos... On the other hand, listen to like suicide. That's almost it. The last line to say that Kim is certainly NOT what I would call a technical player, be it an insult or a praise. One from Tank Girl, one from Soundgarden, and one from a band called Black Lab. I saw them at a show on Thursday and they played it. It was really nice, though they played it maybe 1.3 times faster than Soundgarden did. Igor. P.S. For your information, in the past a person would use a name and then some one else would use the same name (like on the SOMMS list) and so when people make posts it confused everyone of which person really made the post. So please don't go making an issue out of something far more simple. So, those of you that have responded (negatively) were quite rude with that. I just picked up TOTD on vinyl a few weeks ago. It has (Side A) Hunger Strike 4.03 and (Side B) Your Saviour 4.02 and All Night Thing 3.53 on it. It is a UK release with the title Temple of the Dog Hunger Strike... I paid $20 for it and it is a sealed copy.. Only reason I haven't open it is because I'm in the process of moving and my life is packed in 40 zillion boxes.. don't move if you don't have to.... :-) Jamie (SOMMs Mom) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 22:07:25 -0500 From: Kris Subject: SOMMS I just wanted to remind everybody out there of something. SOMMS is part of a double cd...Badmotorfinger/SOMMS! They are both together. Getting this for ten bucks is a great deal!!! To all of you out there who say that you will only pay $10 cause it's used, I say that that is an incredible deal! Let me put it this way. Many people own "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" by The Smashing Pumpkins :) How much would you pay for that if it were used and in excellent condition? (It retails at about $25) I would probably pay close to $15 dollars, if it were near mint, maybe $20. NOW...BMF/SOMMS was VERY LIMITED compared to MCIS :) More like only 10,000 copies of SOMMS to about 25 MILLION of MCIS! Think about this for a second... $30 is not a bad price for a used SOMMS. I am picking one up for this price at a shop this weekend. (It is on reserve) I hope that my input is useful to some people on the list :) Have a nice day everloving SOMMS mail listees!
