I'd like to see Slash and Chris together, but their musis styles are just completley different. I mean Guns and Roses.....Soundgarden. Personally, I just find it hard to compare, but don't get me wrong, i like both bands. Isnt Chris a good Guitar player? Just for kicks, I'd like to see him take a solo. I'm sure he's not like Kim, or any one of the great shredders, but I'd like to see how Mr. Cornell would sound. How 'bout anyone else? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Mar 1998 15:38:15 EST From: CameronJCP Subject: Re: TOUCHY!! Alright you guys, first off no one was being "touchy". For your information, in the past a person would use a name and then some one else would use the same name (like on the SOMMS list) and so when people make posts it confused everyone of which person really made the post. So please don't go making an issue out of something far more simple. So, those of you that have responded (negatively) were quite rude with that. I didn't think so.....ok why dont i stop with this now? Typical of me to have started this stupid thing anyways *blushes* SOMMS kicks ass by the way.....the lyrics to Into The Void are much nicer than the Black Sabbath version......is it true that they were from an old letter written by an Indian chief or something when the white man started taking over their lands? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Mar 1998 15:04:56 -0600 From: Bill Flanders Subject: Re: Mr. Cornell......The Shredder??????? Chris is a damn good songwriter, singer and rythm guitarist... but he can't touch Slash at lead guitar. It wouldn't be a direct combination of Guns N Roses and Soundgarden... that definitely wouldn't work well. It just seems that Chris writes a lot of good rythm/vocal songs and Slash can write lead/vocal songs, for a good mixture. It would be cool to me, but there are a few problems I haven't considered. For one thing, Chris and Slash both exude this "rock god" aura, which might conflict with eachother, especially since Slash emerged from an embarassing hair-rock era. It just seems that Slash is one of the most powerful lead guitarists in the world, and he's not doing anything right now... And Chris is possibly the most powerful vocalist in the world, and he has some free time. Isn't it worth a try to fuse what could be a force as potent as Page-Plant was? I definately think they should try it out for a movie soundtrack or something. Also... "Slash" needs to revert to his real name Saul Hudson, to get away from that dated image back in GNR. I bought it for $23, so I'm selling it for $25 (postage included). HERE'S THE DEAL, READ CAREFULLY. In order to make it fair for all digest homies, it will not be a first come first serve thing. All you must do is answer this question. *** What is the link between Matt Cameron and my school (UCSD), specifically the LIBRARY? *** Notice the quantifier "specifically the library." Send your responses to jordans@ucsd.edu . I will compile all the CORRECT answers and pick one at random. I realize this is a somewhat vague question, so if no one gets it, I'll give the prize to the most amusing answer. But please at least try to guess. And please, those of you who already own SOMMS, I am putting my deepest faith in you that you will not try to win this.. I would be severely emotionally devistated if I found out I'm giving it to someone who already has it. Last but not least, fuck you all. I think that CC's solos go about as far as the Sunshower and Fell on Black Days excursions, if they can be called that. a longer solo would be the dragging one in Fluttergirl...and that's about all of them that i can think of. even when he writes "solo" parts, they're always more rhythm than anything, look as Seasons, for example. the man is a brilliant songwriter and singer, but just doesn't have that soloists speed or mind, imho. mind riot ____ remember everything is just black or burning sun sleep tight for me i'm gone ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Mar 1998 18:22:37 +1300 From: Graham Appleby Subject: somms hey everyone, how much would you pay for a secondhand copy of somms? no more than US$10, right? from graham:) ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 9 Mar 1998 to 10 Mar 1998 ***********************************************
