Leco" Subject: Buying over the Net Hi, I was wondering if anyone has info about buying music over the Net from sites or people posting to news groups. (Not including large sites like CDNow.) Has anyone ever been ripped off or had a bad experience? Or has it all been good. How about purchasing from other countries? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Please reply to me personally. Thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 10:27:45 -0500 From: Dave George-Cosh Subject: BOTOW MP3 If anyone want Blow Up The Outside World MP3, go to http://www.golden.net/~cosh and enter the MP3 area. I also got a South Park MP3 and a song from the new PJ album.....I know how hard it is to find MP3's, but I got 6 SG and I'll put them up on my site regularly. I haven't seen the movie, so there's still the possibility in my mind that it was written to fit the flick. But as a song for either Susan or Andrew...it doesn't make scense to me. If I was in the position Chris was/is in I wouldn't waste (and I hesitate to use the term "waste" cause I thouroghly dig the song and don't want to take away it's meaning, but I have no better word) a track with such great meaning and feeling behind it, as one to a deceased best friend or the love of my life, on a soundtrack. This may just be me, but a soundtrack seems the perfect place to slap on a song to close things, kind of a packing of the bags and moving on if you catch my drift. I certainly wouldn't use something with such personal meaning and depth to me on an album that was not entirely from my own heart. Anyway, just my ramblings, ~^v^OzzY^v^~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 17:17:46 GMT From: SIMON 'Hellboy' ROBERTS <973790971@97.HUMBER.AC.UK> Subject: Re: PEARL JAM VIDEO!!! er...sorry to put a downer on things, ladies and gents, but I read in Kerrang! the other week that PJ had now decided NOT to do a vid for Given To Fly. Hello SOMMS mailing list, I am a new subscirber. While reading a few back issues of the list, I see a common re-occurance poping up, the issue of Chris Cornell's new release, Sunflower: What is it about, who is it about, why did he do it, blah blah blah blah blah. Who cares. I think you are reading to much into it. Cornell has said numerous times in interviews that people are always trying to decipher what his lyrics mean, and they are always wrong. The only person who knows what it is about is himself. For all we know, it could be about his grandmother or something. It is just a good song to put on a soundtrack of a love story. It is an excellent song, just enjoy it. Don't ruin it by attempting to explain it. I'm sure you all have heard about my efforts to archive some live Soundgarden. Well, I have finally found a server to host (for who knows how long) the materials. Warning: these files are in mp3 format and are really big, about 5MB per song. You will need winamp from http://www.lh.net/winamp and and ftp client from http://www.tucows.com/... I recommend CuteFTP or WS_FTP. Finally, you will need the address of the FTP site which you can get from me(reply). This really isn't about distributing explicitly copyrighted materials. a nd I urge you not to do this. However, I do not control the content of this server. I imagine there are still some of you on this list who never got to hear the band play live. This one's for you. Bill ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 19:28:59 EST From: power child Subject: matt chat and eddie vedder on chris cornell the matt chat was interesting. i think it is funny that someone who spent the entire chat sucking up big time to matt then has to criticize other people for asking stupid questions. most of the questions i saw were good ones and itneresting ones and i wish there had been mroe technical drum questions because after all that was the reason for him being on that web site. asking about soundgarden breaking up once is okay, continuing to harp on it is stupidity, but continual sucking up is just as bad. all you did was take up questions from people who couldnt get a word in edgewise and i dont understand why you would do that cuz he cant see you and last time i checked he was very happily married anyway. here is an intresting quote from an interview eddie vedder did recently: "It would still drive me mad," he agrees, "if I thought about it, if I thought about my records being listened to in millions of homes, by millions of people. But that thought is not allowed in my head. As soon as that thought enters your head, you should pack up and go home. I had this conversation with Chris Cornell once. We also agreed that, for much the same reason, you should never listen to your own records while stoned. That's when you end up thinking,' My God! People have this record in their homes! This is terrible! We must go out and buy them all back!" if either eddie or chris or any of the pj or sg guys feel the need to come to my house to take back my sutff, they are welcome any time! ~power child ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 19:36:12 EST From: NFS F50 Subject: i am not crazy ..am i? I was so psyched to be getting HIV Baby. But that is maybe the worst Soundgarden song besides "Exit Stonehenge". It start off with a somewhat amusing chant of "Sound-gar- den, Sound-gar-den" from an audience. It's funny at first, but when I want to hear a song, it pisses me off to have to wait 30 seconds for it to start. Then comes the real song which is okay I guess, but it sounds like the vocals were done in 1 take and sloppily at that. But it's not bad, but then! oh woe are my ears when theny go on with some silly, annoying riff for three and a half minutes. Yuck. See ya, Jimi "That's what blind dogs believe but I've heard that before." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 00:32:59 EST From: Lilricky81 Subject: Re: hey mtv... is it just me, or did weiland seem rather toasted this evening? it was pretty damn funny if you ask me.... watching the "couch" guests, you could almost feel the uneasiness corked up inside them.... they read their watches a million times over..... as 6pm (pst) rolled around...i had the blank in place, with my finger on the record button....so needless to say, i was disappointed. but i'm not hostle towards anyone....honest mistake.... chris' 15 min of media fame will grace our television sets soon enough.......... & my blank tape will be in its usual place. -cats4kim ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 01:07:30 EST From: Remy2Rogue Subject: Re: hey mtv... as anyone seen the comericals for the american music awards (on ABC i think.)? it saddens me to see it. soundgarden wont be there..... most likely not even mentioned. and they were probubly on last year... which i missed. anyhow, all this talk of interviews and mtv stuff, reminded me. --grace ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jan 1998 01:24:11 -0500 From: "Michelle A. Which is cool. I'd like to think that he has lots of other important stuff to do rather than 'selling' his one song on a soundtrack to a bunch of MTv viewers. Don't get me wrong! I'd love to have seen him. But there will be other times. Anyway, another point that I wanted to make... Watching Scott Weiland reminded me of another reason that I love our SG men. What was up with his outfit/posing? I like his music and I think that Lady... is a cool song. But it seemed that he was really working hard to make an image for himself. Maybe the rehab didn't do him good! But the point is that I think that it's great the Chris, Kim, Ben and Matt never fell for that "rock star image" crap. Jeans and a t-shirt. It's them being themselves and being comfortable with that! ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 23 Jan 1998 to 24 Jan 1998 ************************************************
