When Alice In Chains were on Unplugged they re-worked 'Sludge Factory' for acoustic and anyone who's heard that on CD will know how 'un-acoustic' it is. The obvious ones for acoustic would be songs like Fell On..., Somewhere, Head Down (near acoustic on record anyway) and Mind Riot. How about people's suggestions for a SG unplugged set list fantasy type thing. I'll leave that one with you. That would be really great. I'd like to hear Jerry Garcia's Finger and Motorcycle Loop acoustic as well... -- bye bye -js mailto:jordans@ucsd.edu http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~jasnodgr/fm/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 14:47:54 EST From: UnknownGrl Subject: bill nye My chem teacher was fast forwarding through a bill nye the science guy episode when three guys who looked like ben matt and kim were shown clapping their hands... i screamd "IT'S SOUNDGARDEN" and she pressed play. It turns out it was an eppisode called sound waves (or something like that). I'd like to see the whole thing ... but my teacher wouldn't let me... if anyone one else knows about this maybe you can tell me what it is about. -Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 15:05:43 EST From: Nothng2Say Subject: Re: poll Definitely Like Suicide, of course BHS, I think Holy Water could be done. Gotta have Searching...... , I can see Hands all Over being re-worked also. Maybe SG will pull a KISS and make all this a reality! --Matt ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 15:32:08 EST From: Gallagwar Subject: Re: some thoughts I also think that Soundgarden was heavier in UMOK and Louder. Hiro had a particular sound that Ben didn't have. Ben was more melodious and subtle. You can clearly hear Hiro more than you can Ben on any album. Hiro had his own playing style that fit in perfectly in an 80's metal band. His style made a distinguished beat. We have come to know this as the "'garden groove." I model my own play off Hiro because although Ben took a more indept approach to the way he played, Hiro could take over a song. He could take a song and transform it into a bassy pile of slop where all you could hear was his beating the hell out of the bass. Flower, Hunted Down and Big Dumb Sex are prime examples of Hiro's style. I always thought Soundgarden should do unplugged. There I said it, please have mercy. I mean, Pearl Jam, Live, Nirvana and Alice In Chains are hard rock bands and they all turned in killer performances on the show. I know SG is much heavier or "fuller" as someone said, but they had some songs that would come out the same on acoustic. Obviously, Chris could play Seasons to open the show, followed by Like Suicide, Mind Riot or The Day I Tried To Live. They probably could also play songs like Tighter and Tighter, BOTU, Switch Opens, Fourth of July, Somewhere (maybe), Searching..., the list isn't long but would be enough to fill a full show. The only problem is Kim would never go for it. Ah, maybe it's just me, I love the acoustic stuff. Gallagwar "And I hope it's a sweet ride. Sleep tight for me, I'm gone..." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 16:37:11 EST From: Draco900 Subject: Dream Acoustic Setlist If they did an unplugged show I think it would be cool if they played: 1. [...] But you can hear Hiro quite well if you know what your listening for (duh;). Just listen carefully to songs like Beyond the Wheel, Mood for trouble (a more melodious bass here though), Nazi Driver and Incessant Mace (on LTL his bass is much clearer although perhaps not that 'dark'). >[...] with Chris's vocal register coming down lower and thicker, and a lot of >overlapping of Ben's and Kim's parts, there is an overall throatiness to the >sound. [...] I've noticed that a lot of people mention this, but I have to disagree. Yes, Chris does some really high-pitched stuff on LTL, but not nearly as much on UMOK. One thing I love is the way he has some gutwrenching screams and also sings with a much lower and raw vocal than he did on LTL. IMO Chris' vocals are far lower all in all than on BMF, just listen to the intro to Beyond the Wheel. (is he assisted by Hiro there?) >While UMOK is indeed heavy, the experimental >nature of it, like SU, makes it stylistically all over the place. There >is an overall style governing BMF, a more defined direction. >There is also a faster feel to BMF. Mind Riot is >the only thing that passes for a slow song, and it's actually mid tempo. Now UMOK does cover several styles, but I think there is an overall gothic and indeed punk feel to it in the faster songs. It's especially that gothic feel that makes the album sound 'heavy'. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, is the fact that lyrically UMOK is far darker than BMF (probably what attracted those goth-heads in SG early days). I consider BMF a more poetic album. We all know what Nazi driver means, not to mention Beyond the Wheel. As for Toy Box (I know it's on the Flower-single), although it's about a doll, those lyrics are just cruel... Andy "Buried in dirt, her torso lays One limb dangles" BTW Seth (hope you read this), in Toy Box it's "Around, the meadow grows tall to the sun [...]" not "Brown, the meadow grows tall to the sun [...]" as written on your site. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 19:14:41 EST From: NFS F50 Subject: Cornell Live Watch MTV Live this Friday. Here's a link: http://songohan.simplenet.com/mov1/dbmvid4.mpg It is a MPEG file of a Dragonball Z video set to Ty Cobb! You know, by that band.....I can't think of the name right now......I believe it was made by the web page author, so if you like it thank him (or her). For those of you who don't know what Dragonball Z is it's a Japanese anime (cartoon). I'm not sure if it has any nudity in it though (most anime do)....don't be offended, it's not my fault! I'm still not done downloading it (I have GetRight, I recommend it if you download files alot). It's a 10 MB file (!). Actually, I'll just save you people the trouble and send it through the list. Soon as I'm done downloading it. /\ /\ 'o' -Cat "Tommorrow begat tommorrow...." P.S. Just kidding Seth!!!! 'Bout sending the file to the List :) P.S.S. There are other videos set to the music to other bands like Metallica so if you like the Ty Cobb one you'll probably like the other vids. P.S.S.S. I have no idea how I found that site :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 22:51:17 EST From: SubPop77 Subject: Matt Post I was talking to a fellow SOMMSter and they told me about a post that Matt made Post-Soundgarden.
