Ben always played more fluently and melodious (something to do with him originally playing guitar, I guess). Now, where I'm going with this is: Don't you find it a bit weird then that after Ben joined SG they released what is commonly regarded as their heaviest album? And that this heavier style was a result of Ben's contributing to the band. However, in my opinion UMOK (and SL) is a heavier album (ep), just a bit more experimental. "Why then?" you ask, "is BMF considered heavier album?" Answer: I don't know; enlighten me. (Did that really make any sense?) Oh, one last thing... STOP SENDING FILES TO THE LIST! ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID OR WHAT? (in the nicest possible meaning of the word). How many times must this be said? Although you mean no harm, listers like me get the digest, and when it's filled up with crap I get PISSED OFF! I was very happy (the dents in my wall atest to that) as you might expect. It was the first time I ever saw the video being that I don't watch MTV and Much wasn't around when the video would have been played. It was only the seventh Soundgarden video I had ever seen. It was a damn awesome video at that. Then to even greater surprise, they play "Heart-Shaped Box" right after it. I am no Nirvana fan and hate basically everything they have put their name on, but this one song and video are the only thing that makes me recognize Nirvana as a decent band. To say the least, Much made my day Gallagwar "And I hope it's a sweet ride. Sleep tight for me, I'm gone..." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jan 1998 15:45:37 EST From: Nothng2Say Subject: Re: Some Thoughts I believe BMF is considered really heavy because a lot of the songs are in Drop B tuning (low string goes down to B instead of E) which can make it sound really heavy. Plus BMF is where a lot of the trademarked odd time signatures started showing up. PLUS On BMF Chris' voice seems to have changed from a more throaty/pinched wail, to the guttaral scream we've all come to love, as well as him using his lower chest voice (such as the verses to Holy Water.) --Matt P.S. Or the fact that JCP is on it would automatically make any album the heaviest of all time. ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 18 Jan 1998 to 19 Jan 1998 ************************************************
