The second and third verses appear to depict a parade or >procession: Yeaahhh, well sort of about an airheaded teenager. I interpreted the song as a statement about beauty, and the way that people treat the 17 year old like a queen just because she is pretty, fits an image and can dance well. It doesn't matter how lovely you may be to look at early in life, because we will all fade and we will all die. Therefore, why was looks so important for a while when they don't really matter, I think that was the statement Chris was trying to make, generally! hehe. >I hope that everyone can sort through this rather convoluted mess to >make sense of what I am saying. Does anyone think that Flower might >indeed have this sort of connection to Hand of God? Well obviously the lyrical content is inter-related but I don't think that there is any huge connection. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 02:47:52 EST From: power child Subject: self pollution radio i nkow someone already posted a url but that page has a whole list of stations from all over the world that will be carrying it at http://www.fivehorizons.com/misc/spr2stations.html so we dont ahve to clog up t he whole list with posts about what station will it be on. they also ask people to call their radio stdations and ask them if t hey will carry it and if they say yes to mail them and they will add it to the list. also pearl jam have announced that it will be called monkeywrench radio. (that web page has a full page all about spr and what the broadcast was like, with a full tracklisting and stuff in case you missed the first one, click on the banner at the top of the radio stations page) i woudl be very surprised if we didn't see more than one of the sg guys show up at this broadcast and id also bet jerry cantrell since his solo album will be out in march. the first one was certainly full of surprises. also someone was posting about temple of the dog. some of you already know this but seth had a full web site about totd already which could answer all your questions at http://ten.shocking.com/totd/ . ~power child ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 07:36:46 -0600 From: tonerkin Subject: All Right Now...it's FREE!!! Sunshower is not a bad song. It's a real pretty package, with excellent production and all that good stuff. Chris's voice is classic Chris Cornell which came as somewhat a relief after hearing his deepened sound on Ave Maria. Anyway, the song was more acoustic than I expected with the opening seconds sounding eerily like Seasons. As for the lyrics, they are fine, nothing bad, but nothing to really get too worked up about. But overall, Sunshower is not memorable. The second after I heard it, and went on to the other tracks, I could not for the life of me recall the melody of Sunshower at all. That's what kind of song it is. I am a little disappointed. I was expecting something really worth waiting for and to be honest, it didn't deliver 100% but maybe after muliple listens, I'll change. But there just doesn't seem much *substance* to Sunshower. Man, when was the last time you can recall anything Soundgarden related lacking substance? But hey, for all you people on the fence about getting the Great Expectations soundtrack, get it, and not just for the fact that Chris Cornell is on it. The soundtrack is incredibly moving and the songs actually fit the mood of the movie quite well. Most of the other songs on it are excellent, and you will not be disappointed. -vince ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 15:55:49 -0500 From: jenny grover Subject: The Legend Someone posted recently about Do Nuts, wanting to know who performed it. He was introduced simply as "The Legend" on the live boot. I got my new Sub Pop catalogue yesterday, and under sale singles, this is listed: "The Legend-- Do Nuts The British journalist who discovered grunge puts out a record." So, does this mean it's Everett True? Ummm...this is a Soundgarden list so if we don't want Matt to join the pumpkins, we can voice our opinion on that. (I personally don't care if he works w/them. I like the pumpkins as well.) And just because Corgan said "They don't have a drummer" doesn't mean that Matt hasn't "worked with them." But this is an old topic anyway. So most importantly, why the HELL should we think of pumpkin fans anxiously awaiting another release instead of wishing we could hear another SG release? After all. Pumpkins fans WILL hear new songs from the pumpkins. Who gives a damn those fans (and that includes myself) have to wait? Soundgarden is no more. So we WILL NOT hear a new SG release! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 19:06:59 -0500 From: Dave George-Cosh Subject: Re: kim >this just in from mtv... something about kim judgeing for the jimi hendrix >guitar contest!!! >so that's what kim's ben up to!! Matt was obviously unhappy with this being that he had just left << Let us remeber that there was never an OFFICIAL news release that said anything about Matt *joining* the Smashing Pumpkins..... all the press release said was that he was *recording* with them. Yes, just recording. And as Matt said in his OWN words: "Um, I've got a band in Seattle called 'The Wellwater Conspiracy' and we just released a CD. Um, gonna do some recording sessions here next week with Smashing Pumpkins. Um, I've got a few bands that I'm playing with in Seattle, so I'm kinda freelancing right now." The KEY pharse being FREELANCING. Im sorry people.. but I thought that we had gone over this... MATT IS NOT, WAS NOT, NOR WAS EVER PLANNING ON JOINING THE PUMPKINS!!! ok.. now I feel better. Here in Seattle we have a sketch comedy called Almost Live, Kim makes appearenced regularly. He is in a ongoing skit called "The Lame List". He and sevral buttrockers stand around and scream lame to stuff that this guy says. My fav is "Now that Soundgarden broke up, the lame list is your main gig", Kim says "That is so lame, in my 13 year career that is the lamest thing that has ever happened to me". I would love to see the SNL skit, someone E-mail Norm MacDonald! -Nick (from now on known as Ugly Truth) "If you were mine to give I might throw it away" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 23:55:11 -0600 From: William Flanders Subject: Soundgarden Bashing I've got a discussion for you. Something that is a constant source of tension with one of my friends is that I'm so into Soundgarden's music, and that I think Superunknown is the greatest album in the history of rock. One of my friends is an avid CD collector. He probably has well over 500 CDs, and listens to the likes of Nirvana and Ben Folds Five. But, from discussion after discussion, I've been led to believe that Superunknown is the only mistake in all those CDs he bought. His bashing started with "what the hell is this? " to "the music is also annoying." Am I the only one who runs into this crap? It really seems like people are polarized between "Soundgarden is artistic genius" and "Soundgarden is just a bunch of annoying noise." Anyone else run into this?
