For those of you posting your dislike for Sunshower: Why did you wait for Seth to say he didn't like it before you guys commenced the criticizing? Does he grant one the right to state one's dislike for it or something? I'm going to say that Sunshower is the greatest song ever written just to spite all of you hosers. De ja vu all over again, it seems. -- bye bye -js mailto:jordans@ucsd.edu http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~jasnodgr/fm/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jan 1998 16:27:54 -0500 From: jenny grover Subject: half a tone Hey, has anybody ever noticed this? Half is listed and tabbed out as being in CGCGGE tuning, same as Head Down. Head Down on the album and live is in this tuning, as is Half performed live. However, Half on the album is all tuned up a half a tone. Anyone know why this is (or have any interesting theories)? ....half a tone, half a to-one. We're tu-uned up half a tone... People who pay this kind of money for SOMMS aren't brain dead. We're just obsessed:-) I agree that people shouldn't be afraid that Chris's new album will be soft and sappy. I'm sure that it will be a very diverse album. I'm looking forward to it now matter what direction he takes it in. I hate to say it, but this IS what I predicted (and dreaded). I've only heard Sunshower a couple times, but I think its beautiful. I like the lyrics and the music (although I, too, could do without Eleven). No, it isn't innovative and gut-wrenching, but it's a contribution to a soundtrack for Christ's sake - and a classic love story at that. What did you all expect? Heavy Metal Great Expectations? Great Soundgarden Expectations? But, as I said, I'm not surprised. I do find it interesting that many of the people who have criticized the song also didn't like DOTU (which I loved). I have a quote of Chris' I'd like to share from a New Zealand radio interview I downloaded off the site: [about DOTU] Chris says:"It sounds to me...the way we should sound like. As compared to other records, I think it's more raw, but it's also...it's a lot more fluid, it's more relaxed, it seems like we're -- it sounds like we're more into the songs, which is because we didn't spend as much time on the sounds, we just went in and recorded them." So it seems to me, if you don't like DOTU, and you don't like Sunshower, chances are you probably won't like his solo album much either. I could be wrong; I guess we'll see. I liked Michelle's post: > Another thing that you guys are forgetting is that this can't be easy for > Chris. Imagine being in a band for 12 years, being successful and earning a > lot of respect. And then suddenly you have a solo career. Have some compassion. Give him a chance. At least wait until you hear the album to bash his efforts. It pisses me off to hear people going on about how Sunshower has no *heart* and insinuating that he's just going through the motions. I for one can't imagine Chris doing that willingly. I think that was happening near the end of Soundgarden, and that it got too uncomfortable for him. Chris, as far as I've ever been able to see, is loaded with integrity. Soundgarden wasn't right for him any more, and he (they - whatever) ended it. Why in Hell would he go back and do something if he couldn't put his heart into it!? Maybe his heart is just in a different place than many of the people on this list. I'm not bashing the people who don't like it. I'm just saying, don't question his integrity just because you no longer like his music. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it isn't good, or doesn't give joy to someone else (and hopefully to HIM). And to Gary Rees: > What? he should make any muisc he wants to > even if it alienates all his original fans? Were his "original fans" Chris Cornell fans or Soundgarden fans? His is now a solo career, so yes, I think he should make whatever kind of music he wants. He isn't a part of Soundgarden any more. I'm sure he wants to be accepted and admired for what HE is, alone now. And if that isn't possible for some original Soundgarden fans, so be it. Ahhh, I feel much better.
