It's very formulaic. It reminds me of Bread (especially that wah thing going on in there-- what's with that?) But I guess some of you are too young to remember them. It would be interesting to know if he really did write this with the movie in mind or if it was just something he dragged out of the closet that seemed to fit, as is often the case with soundtracks and compilations. I find it disappointing and uncharacteristically mediocre. The verses I like enough, but the chorus I just don't like. The chorus is just bad music with bad poetry. It sounds forced and strained. It's a bunch of bullshit and it's making me sick reading all of you people stabbing him in the back. He can make whatever the hell kind of music he wants to and it will still be better than anything else there is today. If you people have a problem well then get the hell of the list, stop cluttering it up with how "disappointed" you are with him. He has more talent and more heart and more money than any of us will ever have, so I think that gives him the right to do whatever the hell he wants. I understand some of you are totally into metal and that's why you don't like the acoustic stuff. I like metal better too, but the reason is because there are no good acoustic acts out there (Days of the New aren't terrible though). If Chris's album is all acoustic, I'll be thrilled cuz I love everthing he's done in acoustic. Furthermore, there is to be no more Chris-bashing on this list. That's one of the possible reasons for the breakup, extensive touring. They were always about giving the fans what they wanted, but look what happened when the fans stopped giving back. I don't mean by experimental that he's being innovative musically, only that he is toying around with styles *he's* not used to writing. Just like how Temple of the Dog was experimental for him, since it was unlike Soundgarden's writing. However, it wasn't very original in style, since it drew heavily from Mother Love Bone. Just like it would have been experimental for him to write the country version of Rusty Cage even though country is not a very innovative style of music (and he claimed he wasn't able to do this). Likewise I'm fairly sure that the Superunknown demo's are heavily influenced as well. But Chris (and the others) seemed to employ a unique combination of influences in Superunknown that made their songs special, and different--EVEN IF, and I stress this, EVEN IF THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN AVERAGE WRITERS IN ANY PARTICULAR MUSICAL STYLE THEY DREW FROM. Well, if previous experience is any indication, Chris is challenging himself to write/perform in some styles that he loves (but is not accustomed to writing/performing in) in order to include some of those elements in his writing. >It would be interesting to know if he really did write this with the >movie in mind or if it was just something he dragged out of the closet >that seemed to fit, as is often the case with soundtracks and >compilations. The song is definately less than we expect from him. And if he put that song on the album, I would definately be disappointed. Nevertheless, I'm glad he wrote the song because it's a stepping stone for improving his writing, just like "Black Cat" or "Heartfist" though they were also mediocre. E-mail me again and I'll hit you back ASAP. Second...Does anyone else here dig OzzY? If you do you may be familiar with a song called "Goodbye To Romance". This trak was the first solo cut he had written after his break with Sabbath and was his way of saying goodbye. It was sappy as all hell, but as most anyone knows that ain't how OzzY's solo career went. "Sunshower" strikes me as Chris's goodbye to Soundgarden and their fans. I won't clog space with my reasonings and lyrical meanings (if you're interested in specifics e-me), but if you take it apart and analyze it you may draw the same conclusion...I vaguely remember one other individual on the list drawing this conclusion ealry on, but I can't remember who to save my soul. Thrid, The Idea...This one's for all you musicians out there that might be gnawing off your finger nails for some new Garden-related music. We have the lyrics and the artists of the fabled "Cleaning My Gun" and "Ocean Fronts", thanks to the lyric section of the Official Site, which I'm assuming no one but they boys have ever heard. I've never seen a bootleg of them, futher more I have never even heard mention of them being heard. So, taking into account that they came up sometime around before _SU_ and also taking into account who wrote them wouldn't kick ass to "write" and "finish" these songs ourselves totally collaborating over the internet? Just a thought. I would have no clue where to begin as I don't have the equipment (get yer mindz outta the gutter), but I'm sure some of you out there do. Those who don't maybe could pen their idea of the music if they have that talent. Just a thought, do what you will with it.
