I hope all of you had a great Christmas and New Year... or whatever you may celebrate. <> someone wrote this (nothng2say@aol.com.... not sure who this is... Matt I think) back on december 14th and I know how you SOMMSters hate old subjects.... but I have to. I had finals and didn't have time to get online for a month! My friends bought me the SPIN 98 calendar for xmas and I love it.... the pictures of the guys are amazing.... I was so excited to see this huge picture of them on there.... and right in matt's birthday month! I looked back to see Chris's in July.... then on to my birthday month (September =)))))) and was delighted to see the RHCP there in full color (I'm a BIG fan of theirs as well) I looked on and noticed Ben's birthday, then looked up and---- huh? WHERE'S KIM'S BIRTHDAY????? Maybe my calendar is the only one like this, but they left Kim's out. And yes it irritated me to no end. I sure hope that it's just a printing error otherwise how moronic can you get? You feature the band in the calendar and forget one of the members birthdays? uhhhh no. And if they did forget.... there is no excuse. Considering in the April 94, 9th anniversary issue of SPIN, their article on Soundgarden featured the conversation between Corgan and Kim.... in which Corgan coaxes Kim to spit out his birthday.... "September 4th dammit" I think it was. I hope no one elses calendar has this mistake on it. I figure that it's just my own rotten luck.... oh well. ;o)~ oh and as probably the single moron on this list who has yet to hear "Sunshower" on the radio or any other place.... I'd like to share my excitement of tomorrow's release of the Great Expectations sndtrk. I figured I would, since everyone else has heard the damn thing a thousand times. And besides, Tori Amos has a track on there called "Siren" (which I've heard a part of, and it's great as is to be expected from the goddess) so I'm having my birthday and xmas all rolled into one. Since I last posted, I scored the self titled Hater to my complete and utter joy, since I assumed it was out of print. I love every blinkin' second of it and have even made a tape of it for my car. =) These guys bring me such joy. But then again they always have. Well that's it.... I'd just like to say hi to everyone and especially everyone new since my last post. It's comforting to know there's tons of Soundgarden fans out there, especially since I have yet to come face to face w/ a single one. And to the koggle.... I'd just like to say that you're boy is quite a cutie and your story was lovely. =) "Remember I love you, love you" love, lissa =) p.s. to anyone who lives in seattle.... and heard kisw's (99.9 I think.... I'm not sure) cd side broadcast dedicated to seattle (on matt's birthday I think).... dj'ed by Damon Stewart. The "lisa" (he couldn't say my name the fool....lol) he mentioned in the beginning, w/ the request via the internet.... that was me... heheh. =)~ Oh and in case you didn't catch it, he *is* the voice on the beginning of "Searching...", but y'all knew that anyway. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 14:17:15 EST From: Gardner167 Subject: g.e. soundtrack released. im posting to confirm the tentative release of the great expectations soundtrack as OFFICIAL... i just bought it, and here are the (sunshower) lyrics, "as per the cd book" dark as roses fine as sand feel your healing and your sting again hear you laughing and my soul is saved on forgotten graves you cry crawl like ivy up my spine through my nerves and into my eyes cuts like anguish or recollections of better days gone by but it's alright when you're caught in pain and you feel the rain come down its alright when you find your way then you see it disappear its alright though your gardens gray i know all your graces someday will flower in a sweet sunshower eyes like oceans so far away a feater trail to a better way worried mornings turn into days then into worried nights but its alright all youll be you are today. mike "trying though i know its wrong" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 14:55:12 EST From: Pam Underwood Subject: Re: Spoonman playing hockey... This isn't exactly the strangest place I've heard SG but it is/was unusual and suprizing. Yesterday/Sunday I was watching MTv's Road Rules(i was very very bored) and I heard SG on there a bunch of times. Of course there was the expected BHS but I also caught riffs of JCP, Outshined, TDITTL and My Wave. So theres my pointless babble. *~PAM~* You don't want to know what I've lived. You don't want to take what I'd give. And I give nothing for free. ~Fluttergirl ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 17:07:38 EST From: Aferdity Subject: Fell on Black Days... Did anyone else see this? Yea, I was going through this RS issue and came across the "Fell on Black Days " title and I thought, "Damn, they're finally doing something about SG!!", but not to my surprise it was about Days of the New. Yes, I THOUGHT that this guy looked like CC but now that I look, he doesn't *at all, not even close*. The only reason I thought he did was the video was out of focus and you couldn't see him very well. So now I agree with the others who say that Travis Meeks looks nothing like CC. And, it seems (from my experience, anyway) that there is somewhat of an adventure to play or do whatever with a new band. Once you've said what you wanted to say, conquered what you wanted to conquer, there's really no adventure, no fun to be in a band. It might take 12 or so years to do so, but after that, it's like, "Alright, see ya around. Maybe we'll play together sometime in the future. It's been fun, but I gotta go do something else." Whether they like it or not, it happens. I know that they will have other bands, which can kick ass just as much. Now, on to other topics...I was sitting real close to the stereo speaker during BIMH, and noticed that during the intro Chris sounds like he needs a windscreen. You can hear it "pop" about 10 times. this is my first time posting, although I've been on since July. brian Enough about the Days-o-the New ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 20:46:48 -0500 From: Brian Kirkner Subject: SG cycle/BIMH budget cuts Well, I see the whole band-cycle like the following: Soundgarden started out back in the eighties. Back by popular demand, it's the official somms count. Currently we have 112 copies of somms owned by curent and past list-members. These list members also are aware of 24 other copies owned by non-listmembers. The list is new and improved this time. I've numbered owners now. Please check this list to make sure you have been counted and that it is accurate. The list is mostly chronological, though I had to shuffle a few people. Geoff P.S. If anybody else has a copy, email me preferably with the word SOMMS in the subject. I'll only count genuine copies. (i.e. not a dubbed copy - this ain't the pirate registry - ar-b-dar) A name followed by (+1) indicates that that person also knows people who own it. I know one person myself. A number in brackets without a '+' indicates that they own that number of copies. Clear? I hope so. Actually, a soundgarden song has been in a commercial. Sometime around the release of DOTU, Pretty Noose appeared in a Canadian commercial for Molson beer. Actually, the commercial didn't specifically mention beer, but mentioned a promotion the company did in which Soundgarden was paid $250 000 to play a surprise gig in a small club in Vancouver. Spectators of the show were required to buy beer in order to win a ticket to the show. Though the commercial didn't specifically mention beer, in Canada, Molson is synonymous with beer. (a la Budweiser). So, by the transitive property, soundgarden promoted some beer in Canada. And I must admit, after seeing the commercial dozens of times, I found that Molson beer tasted a little bit better than it did previously. Geoff p.s. if I get some time I'll have to digitize the commercial, for Molson of course Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 22:42:33 +0100 From: Lorraine Nemec Subject: just a thought... i've been wondering... how would everyone feel if an sg song ever turned up in a commercial?
