The wierdest place I heard Soundgarden was in Seattle. Seriously. You see, I'm not from there, and I got the chance to go last Thanksgiving and so I went on my pilgrimage to Mecca. Funny, Soundgarden were playing here in San Diego that weekend. I missed the show. Their last show in San Diego. BUT HEY! I got to hear them playing Superunknown at some carnival ride under the Heroine, err, I mean Space Needle. The irony of it all! I dunno, for some reason I thought it was uncool to play Soundgarden in Seattle. That's like playing "Abbey Road" on Abbey Road! Or playing "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" in San Jose! Or maybe not, who knows? Who cares? Eh... -- -js mailto:jordans@ucsd.edu http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~jasnodgr/fm/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jan 1998 23:18:52 -0800 From: Jordan Snodgrass Subject: My guitar is weeping Someone mentioned a similarity between The day I Tried To Live and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.. Alas, there is a stirking similarity, but it's not ripped off or anything. The bass line to TDITTL is much more complex than the tromp down the scale in "My Guitar Gently Weeps." That's a common riff.. listen to some rockabilly, most songs have that "tromp down the scale" sound. For example, listen to The Reverend Horton Heat's "It's Martini Time" (the actual song), and you'll hear a super-sped-up yet shorter version of the same riff. -- -js mailto:jordans@ucsd.edu http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~jasnodgr/fm/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 03:26:13 -0500 From: jenny grover Subject: ding ding ding The Cat wrote: > Has anyone else noticed a repeating > 'ding ding ding' kind of sound in Never Named? (and yes, I can hear the "fish" in Pretty Noose, too) And I did finally find the mag with the Kim interview (in another town!) just today and read it immediately when I got home. I don't know why some people were complaining that he didn't tell much about the nature of the breakup. Seems to me he said a hell of a lot. A lot of food for thought there. And for those of you who might be interested, the Feb. issue of Guitar (Dimebag Darrell cover) has the tab for Bleed Together, all guitar parts and bassline. And the weirdest place I recall hearing SG was just shortly after BMF came out. I hadn't bought it yet. I hadn't bought any SG yet, though I had taped Flower and HIV Baby off the radio. I was walking down the street where I lived in Ravenna, Ohio (no, of course you've never heard of it) a small, weird town we lived in for a few years. A car passed me and stopped at a light and Outshined was absolutely blasting out of it. I thought, hey-- that's that new SG song, and that sounded really cool! Now, I rarely ever think anything sounds cool that I hear blasting out of someone else's car stereo, so I made up my mind then and there to buy BMF. Did anyone else see this? -Still searching with my good eye closed for a nick name, Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 12:42:04 EST From: Nothng2Say Subject: Re: sg using beatles riff???? Try listening to the guitar solo in "While My Guitar..." Then Listen to 4th of July, I've always thought there was deep Harrison influence there. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 12:49:52 -0600 From: Andy Hill Subject: Where the Garden Grows Hey SOMMies Does anyone own the cd Where the Garden Grows? I'd appreciate any info on this cd, such as year released and where I can get it, etc. Thanks, Andy "I can't get any lower but still I feel I'm sinking..." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 15:47:28 -0500 From: Opus Subject: Spoonman playing hockey... This is the first thread in a while to make me want to post. I play on a couple ice hockey teams here in Lancaster, PA and when we have a home game they play tapes for us to warm up with. For one of my teams I get to select the music... I don't always use Soundgarden, but I've played Drawing flies, Bleed Together, and Never the Machine Forever. It's always cool to hear SG played through those huge speakers. :-> Could anyone recommend any other SG songs to play before games?(I've thought of using Spoonman and may use it this weekend). They also play Soundgarden at Hershey Bears AHL hockey games which I go to often. I have also heard SG at Baltimore Ravens Games.(just because it's close, I'm a steelers fan.:->) anyway, I'll stop. seeya. Opus ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 18:48:39 EST From: The Cat Subject: Smell the Fuzz Da Queen - Why don't you e-mail me anymore?!?!?!?! :) Anyway, the Guitars That Rule the World album is respectable, featuring Kim Thayil who *fully* agreed to be on there. It's original stuff from Kim, playing guitar. I haven't heard it myself, but someone who has says Kim goes wee-wee at the end [must've drank alot of beer because it was pretty long :)]. I welcome GwYn aka GreenC1838 even though I don't know who you are :) Gallagwar - Yeah, I was pissed off too they didn't mention Chris!!!!!!! What a bunch of pissants. I HATE MTV!!!!!!! They REALLY have something against Soundgarden. I wonder if Chris or someone else from the band said something about them they didn't like. I mean, first MTV edits EVERY Soundgarden video they showed (which I don't understand) and now THIS?!?? Can't wait to hear the Jerry Cantrell album either.... Which reminds me, the weirdest place I've heard Soundgarden was on MTV. Yes, MTV!!!!!!!!! I mean, they NEVER play anything cool!!!!! I was in joy!!! Okay, I gotta settle down for a few. /\ /\ 'o' -The Cat "Warm and sweet, swinging from a window's ledge......." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 19:00:07 EST From: Remy2Rogue Subject: Re: chris vs travis One of my best friends looks exctly like Chris. One of them I had the pleasure of dating, and the other, I almost did. ;) As for Travis Meeks, he's a darling, but no Chris Cornell. He does look a little like him in the video Touch, Peel, Stand though. Not to mention that they sounds great, like a combination of SG, PJ, and AIC. --Jezz ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 20:14:03 EST From: Raven9350 Subject: Re: Chat That's a good idea, too bad I have no idea how to get there. --Jezz In a message dated 1/5/98 8:12:39 PM EST, SpoOnArTis@AOL.COM writes: > OK, SOMMSsters, im mad. (i'm not sure if that's the exact title, but i'm not one to split hairs) so....as i predicted.....some guy, who's name escapes me, i doubt he's olympic material, steps onto the ice.....ripped jeans, a red flannel shirt .......typical merchandised atire....he skates to the center of the rink...poses.... and i start to notice a very familiar intro.... can you all guess which tune he picked??? yes indeedy...he made his rounds w/ BHS echoing in the background.... what a lovely tribute!!! i was touched to say the least....the very least!!! -CATS4KIM ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jan 1998 22:17:05 EST From: Nahedgehog Subject: Re: chris vs travis CAN WE REFRAIN FROM USING THOSE TWO IN THE SAME SENTENCE ALREADY?
