Someone also mentioned about the change in SG's music when Hiro left. I think that Hiro is the reason why Louder than Love is my favorite album. On the other hand I am not sure how much input Hiro had on the songs. I will have to check that out tonight. LTL just had a haunting quality to it that I miss in their music. IT'S BEEN A WHILE! as of christmas i am the proud owner of a GUILD-S100!!! i also got the fobd single. i have most of the songs on it already but, hey ...it's the thought that counts. anyway, a chris cover . . . hmm. . .for SG maybe led zep's IMMAGRANT SONG. that's probably the heaviest song i've heard by them. we've talked about kim's solos before, but nobody ever mentions BIRTH RITUAL's solo. i think it's a great solo that deserves recognition. i also got OPIATE by TOOL. it's only 6 songs but it's pretty friggin' cool. speaking of tool, i think any member of SG could fit with that group. i don't think permanently, but it'd be cool to hear. i read THE kim interview. he replys to each question as he writes lyrics, mysteriously. the interview pretty much goes nowhere when they talk about SG's split. but it sounded like an easy descission for them to make, and more simple than some would believe. but, hey, whatever. goodbye for now. charlie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 12:40:32 -0600 From: William Flanders Subject: Doh! Another one bites the dust Forget about that server IP I just gave you. It is no longer a viable option as a server. I'll get back to you on this. I have it on tape, not CD though. Has anyone heard the demo version of FOBD? It's great and it's so much different than the LP version. It's not better than the LP of course, that's impossible. Thank you. SOMMS << Has anyone heard the demo version of FOBD? It's great and it's so much different than the LP version. It's not better than the LP of course, that's impossible. >> I heard it. My friend got lucky and somehow found it before me. I was mad at first, but at least I have heard it now and I still have WAY more stuff than he does :) Anyway I was pretty blown away when I heard it, its TONS different. But I like the part when he sings "how would i know that this would be my fate" or sumpin like that. Best song on there is Kyle Petty, Son of Richard though.....its got a good version of FOBD live. ~Matt P.S.- Am I a somms veteran yet? Ive been on the list almost 2 yrs. Not that it matters, just wondering...on the Radiohead list im on people are considered immortals after they are on the list 6 mo. Just blabbing......pay no attention to me......hehe ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 22:28:09 EST From: Karelian Subject: Questions Galore I've been on this list for about a year, but I've been a weenie and this is the first message I've actually sent in (I'm one of those "digest" losers). First off, does anyone know what the hell happened to the Soundgarden message board on AOL? (I can't find any of the message boards). Secondly, I noticed someone had the "Born to Choose" compilation for sale. I presume that this is out of print, but I'd like to make sure it is before I send off to Canada for it. Same for that "Foreshocks" thing. Finally, about that Kim Thayil interview in Guitar World. He says, "I don't join people's bands, I start the fucking band. That's true with anyone in Soundgarden." Now, not to contradict this wonderful guy, but I don't really think that's true. First off, Ben joined Soundgarden well into their career, he didn't "start the fucking band." And didn't he join some other band after SG broke up? (I don't know if that's true). And now there's this horribly disappointing news that Matt is working with the Smashing Pumpkins (not to bash Matt Cameron, but rather to bash The Billy Corgan Experience). Maybe he can improve them from that "Mellon Collie" crap. But anyway, presuming that this is true, it is kind of nice to hear that SG just "decided to quit." At least we can say we lost a great band instead of having to say, "yeah, that Soundgarden band was good. Until they crapped out after that Down on the Upside album." Yeah, yeah, burn me at the stake for saying that, I know. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jan 1998 00:10:21 -0500 From: Deborah Servey Subject: Peter Cornell Shows in January 1998 Hey listers in the Seattle area!
