Hope you all had a Merry Christmas. Susan asked: > I wonder what > Chris would say if he saw this whole debate????? I hope he would have stopped reading a while back, when the meaning changed from wondering what he would think about a section of the public who don't seem willing to allow him to grow and change to arguing about whether he is *aging* gracefully. I also hope this subject has been sufficiently torn apart by now :( Kathie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 13:33:26 -0600 From: Tom Gipson Subject: old man Cornell I don't really think 33 is that old. I don't consider a preson old, until they're like, 50. Even then he would probably still make good music. just look at steven tyler, or mick jagger, still rockin? yep. If I were chris, i'd keep his current hairstyle, because it's cool. but, if he wants to grow it out, that's cool too. I know you are seeing this on a higher level, but the things you are saying could all fit in with my original interpretation too. I see the song as one about desire, feeling it - but your partner is sleeping, so you struggle with what to do. You decide to just *do it*, finally triumphing over your own doubts and your partners possible initial resistance. I do see this song as a very *earthy* song, partly because of the spoken part, which sounds like a coaxing whisper to me. The way I see it: > i'm entering, without a sound Waking up from sleep, its quiet. > i'm entering, on wings i've found Gaining the courage to go ahead > a million miles of covered ground describes an established relationship, not a one night stand > i'm entering, entering yeah > well i'm entering > I'm entering > Bleeding hearts > Two lights > Goodness > Stable Could also describe the relationship. Bleeding hearts = Love; Two Lights = the two lovers; Goodness, Stable = the relationship itself. > Glass on bars won't hold me back Perhaps half-hearted resistance? > Without a sound > Or a thought > I'm entering > I'm entering He can't hold back, doesn't need to. And the end, which gets more and more impassioned, is the final triumph. I can see your point, too, but when I put the lyrics and the way he sings them together I come up with sex . I got some deep shit goin on, the first coupla paragraphs were dumb lil observations. Okay, I saw that Sweet Valley High episode today, I've been watching just so I can have a laugh....and what a trauma! Jessica can't find her SG tickets!!!! Ha ah aha ha ha ha aha ha! What a stoopid.....And Liz sold them cuz Jess is stoopid! HA ha ha aha ha. They're going to the concert dressed up and in limos...what's up with that? what the dilly yo? odd....anyway..... I was watching that top ten Buzz Clips of all time today....ugh...anyway....not to any suprise SG didn't make it...which I didn't understand...doesn't MTV base their "top" videos on weeks in the top spot and record sales? And wasn't SG a Buzz Clip..and wasn't BHS played on, not even heavy but obese rotation? Just doesn't make any sense to me.... Read the GW article! Damnit! I love Kim! Whatta guy! And there's a part where the interviewer asks Kim about joining other bands....He said...."I'm not gonna join a band, I start the fucking band!" Yay! I don't know, was there any hostility towards Matt there? And then he was asked if he got any offers and stuff, and he was kinda makin fun saying...(I don't know the exact werds here) "people are like, yeah, get that BHS guy!" It was a nice lil article....it kinda explained things...and made me feel a lil bit more at ease about the break up...and well...ya gotta love KIM! Damnit I do. He's my big hairy fuzzy beer guzzlin guy! Yay! I can't wait for Justin's song of the week! Does that mean that we'll get a song of the month too? Oh I can't wait! *swoon* About the geezer Cornell..... I understand what everyone is saying....he has changed a lot from the tranced twenty something that graced our eyes in Louder Than Live....but it's not only his looks that have changed...like I'm saying, he was tranced and free back then...he seems a lot more controlled now....Age is an odd thing that we all deal with, if yer thinking about how he feels about it...he probably feels the same way we all do when we look back and see pictures of ourselves, you know the one with the tacky shirt from the late 80s/early 90s and the acid wash jeans and that awful haircut.....or even the pictures where ya look good, reminicsing (I know y'all love my speeling). It's just something that we will all go thru eventually....we'll all lose our shine....I mean Chris is no different, we all look up at the same sky....(unless you live in a diff hemisphere, but ya know what I mean). Well, we can at least all hope that he doesn't end up looking like that SCARY pic on Seth's site! KOWAI! If he does, at least his creativity and inner beauty will stay the same....well, can we really count on that? Okay....now a song for Chris to cover.....I don't know...ya really have to think about it....There's that song by the Spaniels that keeps on floating in and out of my head...I can't remember the name....something about "girl".....That would be an interresting challenge..and the boy has got an aweful lot of soul. Oh well, I can't remember, let's just say that it's a damn good song, and they're a damn good group, and Chris would do a damn good job of covering it. I had a nice lil traumatic Xmas...but I got Desert Sessions 2 and Flower on CD (already have it on vinyl, and don't have a goddamn record player since mine broke....grrrrrrr!). Now a nice lil album cover for Chris's new dealie....well I can't really give that any thought, unless I have an idea what the album is called, or even the songs are, and about....cuz the cover and liner notes have to go with the flow and vibe of the album...which SG is always good at doing. Their colors were always right on. Oh well..... Well I know y'all enjoyed my lil novel...as always! ha HA! But I gotta go, don't cry....I'll be back....Oyasuminasai! Take care, much luv, and all that jazz, fru fru fru... da queen of da hedgehogz DeZHy "if this isn't makin sense, it doesn't make it lies." And also, I need Deb....not UK Deb, but RIKER Deb, to email me, that would be great.......I know there's something I'm forgetting.....oh well....THANK YOU! I'M SORRY TO BOTHER Y'ALL! Come on we all did, the Boss was great and still is (he grew up five minutes away from where I live). Anyways, it would be great to hear Chris cover one of his songs. He could do it in acoustic or electric, it would sound good none the less. Tell me it wouldn't be incredible if he did "Thunder Road," "Born to Run," "Murder Incorperated," or "Streets of Philadelphia" His and Bruce's singing styles aren't all that different. They both like to have a rough edge to their voices. Anyway, that's what I think would be cool, even if no one on this list likes Bruce. Gallagwar "And I hope it's a sweet ride. Sleep tight for me... Last night, my local ROCK radio station has a program on it sunday nights from 9:00 to 11:00. They were doing a best of 97 show and they played Soundgarden's " bleed together " for a" best of" song and talked about the break up and all that. So finally they get some credit as a Genuine Stable Rock band. Pretty Cool. Yeah Soundgarden's music has a pretty good impact on my life as well. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Dec 1997 18:25:55 -0600 From: Gary Rees Subject: GO KIM!!! Alright!!!! I shall toast a beer in his honor this night!!hm, bu tif he does make a band will if perhaps be more metal or abou the same as soundgarden was....hmm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 1997 01:34:49 +0100 From: Pablo Campoy Subject: Somebody remembers Soundgarden from Barcelona. Hi, This is my first letter since I belong to this mailing list and something that has surprised me a lot is the big number of girls who like SG (I think I guess... Chris). That's cool!! Seriously, the only girl I personally know who likes them too is my ex-girlfriend (our breaking-off was two months sooner than Soundgarden's, so you can imagine how my mood was in April). Here in Barcelona (Spain, Southern Europe) it's difficult to find somebody who knows who Soundgarden are. Except for some of my friends (we all went to the only concert they made here, in september 1996) anyone with a slight idea associates Soundgarden with Black Hole Sun (and don't you ask for anything else). Of course, all I know about each member's solo careers is through this list and the Unofficial SG Site. Nothing else. Bon Nadal a tothom. Feliz Navidad. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
