Kim's two front teeth! (gimme Chris' and Matt's and Ben's and Hiro's too....) Anyway...I wanna give some insight on Chris' aging, and cover ideas for a new album, but my mind is kaput from working....I got a new job at Tower Records....and sad enuf to say, A-Sides or any of their other albums aren't doing too well....neither are any bands from that Seattle genre...*boohoo*. They keep playing Very Special Xmas 3, which is doing veeery well, but they don't play Ave Maria, can someone put No Doubt out of their musical misery so I don't have to hear it.....my ass will report back later with the Chris issues at hand....So they played Ave Maria on K-ROCK...crazeee....I need to listen to the radio more often.... I have no doubt that all the guys are going through this. I also think that now that they are free of their previous commitment that they will likely experiment with that freedom, personally and musically. It's only natural. 4)It doesn't matter to me whether Chris's solo album is fast or slow, acoustic or electric. What will decide whether I like it and continue to avidly follow his pursuits will be if it is high quality, well written, original, thought provoking, and of substance. If he gets lazy, commercialized, or formulaic on us then I will shake my head in disgust. 5)For cover art I'd like to see a nice, straight black and white. No props, no posing, no willful obscurity, just a clean simple portrait of a man. 6)Thank you Shroom for gracing us with your wonderful post. Every year I tell my mom what I want for xmas and every year she says, "I just couldn't get him." *sigh* Guess it'll be the same this year. (I think most of you know by now who "him" is on my list. The rest of you can fight over Chris if you want to). Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 11:29:25 EST From: SubPop77 Subject: Merry Christmas!! My friend and i have this problem, and shes not helping by actualy coming to grips with it and realizing that her fantasie guy has a long time girlfriend, and i'm stuck here thinking all about matt. matt, matt, matt...i'm not compulsive ;) i just kind worry about those things some times.......... anyhoo happy holidays to everyone (that phrase just seems so superficial, but i do mean it....) hope everyone has a pleasnt (pc) holiday, & that tragedy doesn't happen. peace, --grace ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 13:56:52 EST From: SpoOnArTis Subject: Christmas First off, Merry Christmas to everyone! And to me too.....my mommy got me the SG Press Kit out of Rockabilia. It had a B&W photo, a backstage pass, and a bio. Well....it was supposed to. I got it this morning and all I saw was the photo and pass. I asked my mom where the bio was, and she said that she had taken it out because there were some "inappropriate things" in there. She said she would give it to me though. Turns out the whole thing was about the JCP video (what great timing!) and how some people were getting pissed over it. I thought it was interesting. Overall the whole thing was pretty coo. My mom said she tried to get a SG blacklite poster too but they were discontinued. Im sick of all of their stuff getting discontinued. Is there any word on whether they will ever reissue all this shit? Anyway, Rockabilia has a LOT of other stuff you can get. You name it, its in there. They have a website where you can get a catalog now at www.rockabilia.com Pick one up...youll find sumpin you like...... ~Matt P.S.- If you havent yet, go out and but OK Computer from Radiohead. This is by far the best CD Ive heard since SU (yes...im gonna have to put it a teensy weensy little bit above DOTU) Recently ive finally been listening to some new music and Radiohead has amazed me w/ this CD. Sorry for the advertising section, but this CD is REALLY REALLY good. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 19:18:48 EST From: RedThinker Subject: old man cornell :-P <> *sigh* this isn't really about Chris getting old and ugly...geez. What I think Kathie was talking about is what Chris might feel when people keep expecting the youngER shirtless, long maned rock god, when he clearly is *not* that anymore. What is disturbing me though, is that Chris Cornell is about to quite possibly go through the biggest musical metamorphosis of his life and all people on this list can talk about is his bloody hair and wrinkles. I don't know how Chris thinks, but I really doubt that he gives a flying fuck about what people want from him. If girlies are going to scream for him to rip off his shirt at a show and he doesn't want to, I can just see him now telling them to fuck off...if people want him to strap on an electric guitar as opposed to an acoustic...hmmm, what was that reply that he gave to the record exec who wanted more Seasons-type music? ummm, fuck off and I hate you? yeah, something like that. happy blahmas. ~rita ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 19:35:42 EST From: Remy2Rogue Subject: Re: Christmas ::sigh:: for the last three months (and more) i've been asking for SG stuff, i didnt really care what it was as long as it was SG. well guess what, i didnt get a fucking thing. well i was able to persuade the parental units (i really do love them, i just act like i dont) to get me a couple of shirts, i have to pay for them though. i gave them plenty of notice.....i'm actually very upset over this....i mean if they have somthing aginst SG, they at leat could of gotten me radiohead....but no, once again i had to go buy that for myself as well....... and like Matt said OK Computer is absoulutly amazing, i was very much indeed surprised by how it was so like pablo honey, yet it had "computer effects" (if you will) but keeping the old school sound. anyway, i'm still really ticked off that my 'rents didnt even make an effort......i dont understand how they wouldnt catch on! sorry, i had to vent. i figured SOMMS folks would undersatnd my angst. --grace ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 20:39:53 -0600 From: Kathie and David Subject: Cover Art Matt asked: > On the topic of Mr. Cornell, I'm very interested in what you all think the > Album cover art will be like. I agree with those who think he won't have a recognizable picture of himself on the cover. I think the cover will be, like many of his lyrics, ambiguous and open to many interpretations - something more abstract perhaps. Kathie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Dec 1997 20:53:06 -0600 From: Kathie and David Subject: Entering This may not be appropriate for Christmas day, but what the hell... Does anyone else find the song Entering to be REALLY sexy? I've been listening to Screaming Life, and other stuff from that time period, alot and I've become enthralled with this song. From the first time I heard it I've thought of it as a sexual song. Specifically it reminds me of the good old days of being woken up in the middle of the night by a skillfully manuevered *entering*. The whole song is kind of like this working up into a frenzy - starting out quiet, coaxing, ending in a passionate explosion. Considering that there aren't many words to this song, and what lyrics there are are very simple, the emotional impact is what hits you. I really find this to be a powerful song. Any thoughts?
