Can we please refrain from referring to 33 as "aging"? Can we wait till Chris is 50 before we accuse him of a "mid-life" crisis?? Does Matt really look any different? Matt looks like Matt. I don't think of '92 as a long time ago. It's only 5 years. "I love the way taz bentley plays," says matt. "we did our track at a rehearsal space in one day with an 8-track. it was done with a lot of fun...and beer...and salt. we played everything on the track. I played guitar, he played bass. "the drums are panned right and left, and I'm on the right channel, taz is on the left. I had come up with the drum part from practicing on my own, and I'm playing the 'melodic' tom part and taz is playing the beat. we wanted to split it up to make each part distinct but be grooving when you hear it connected. and then we had the obligatory break in the middle where we're trading fills. taz does all the awesome fills. "we ended up writing four songs, and I cannot tell you how absolutely tickled pink that whole situation made me," taz says. "as both a friend and a drummer, matt is one of the best by far. just to be able to sit there and trade licks with my idol was like a dream come true." matt says that in his downtime since soundgarden broke up, he's been writing and recording "very weird instrumental music" in his home studio. "I've always written and recorded at home, and now I have some time to do it. I'm still playing shows around town and getting some studio calls, and there's another band I'm in called wellwater conspiracy, which just released a record. I'm not really interested in joining some big established band right away. I'm having fun again; the big rock experience was not always fun." meanwhile, taz is busy touring behind the self-titled album by tenderloin. "_flyin' traps_ sounded like a project I wanted to be part of," matt adds. "brian chose some diverse players; the tim alexander piece is phenomenal, and the stephen drozd piece is just a beautiful tune. sometimes a drummer's approach to songwriting is a little bit askew, and therein lies the interesting bits. I think this record is going to surprise a lot of people." me again . I recently received a taped copy of this record from another lister (thanks ross), and have only had time to listen to it (the matt/taz composition) twice. on the strength of that alone I've already ordered my own copy on disc. hopefully the rest of the record sounds just as good. regarding this week's sotw - I hope to finish writing it tonight. if I don't, then I'll have to wait a week or so before I can get it out, considering christmas, access to email over the christmas break and the amount of food I'm sure to consume over the break. I'd like to get this one out of the way, though, because I started my reading for the *next* instalment, and I'm really anxious to get a start on it. justin ------ and I'm lost behind the words I'll never find and I'm left behind as the seasons roll on by - words by chris cornell ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 1997 23:36:53 +1100 From: Greg Dunbar Subject: Re: chris >Hell, when I was 10 I was amazed by pictures of myself at age 7. Sorry for such a small post but I thought that I must say.....GOOD CALL JENNY!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 1997 22:52:24 +1100 From: Nicky Taylor Subject: Re: Chris Well I was reading Katherine's post, and personally I think chris has always been beautiful. I mean I've seen lounder then Live(have it on video myself infact) and I think he is very good looking, as well as in the video clips for loud love and hands all over. Something about his eyes, there kind of like eletric water or something, and then as the years went bye he cut his hair, and to me, he still looks great. I mean I don't know, but personally I think he has aged very well, I mean its not like as the years go bye, any part of him has been lost, more so that he has just sort of matured or something. I just think no matter how old he gets, he will always look good for his age. There is something veery fresh about him. I finally heard the full version of Ave Maria today to. I liked it, but it didn't strike me as much as I thought it would from the small portion I heard from the very special christmas syte. I did however really like Patty Smith's version of We three kings, which is quiet odd, considering I can't stand her, but oh well. For those of you who celebrate christmas, Mery Christmas and a happy new year. take care all, Nicky ouiouwouaounoutoumouyoumouuouloul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 1997 16:41:43 EST From: PenCapChu1 Subject: Kim Thayil Interview: February '98 Issue Im pretty sure this hasn't been posted yet. But the latest issue of guitar world, February 1998 (black cover with a tiny pict of kim's face in the top left hand corner) has an 'exclusive' post- breakup interview with Kim. its obviously worth picking up, and sheds some considerable light on the whole break up from Kim himself. -pencapchew ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Dec 1997 18:12:55 -0500 From: Jaime Gonzalez Subject: Bleed Together tab The Feb issue of Guitar, for the practicing guitarist, has the tab for guitar and bass for Bleed together from the A-sides release.
