I didn't watch it because I knew it would be crap, just like most everything else on MTV. Just because Soundgarden wasn't 'video-friendly' MTV doesn't give a shit. Yeah, but who cares? We have Soundgarden's music, not them. It doesn't matter that they don't get the recognition they deserve, we have something other people don't. To start on the ICQ list, my UIN is 2497880, nickname The Cat. My first and last names are 'The' and 'Cat', repectively :). Here's the story behind Jerry Garcia's Finger. It wasn't taken from a magazine article, that I'm sure of. The reason it was called JGF is probably because they wrote the song a little after Jerry Garcia's death in 1995. The song appears on "Songs from the Superunknown" which was released on November 21, 1995 along with "Alive in the Superunknown". Jerry died in April of 1995. Soundgarden may have written it as some sort of tribute for him. If you don't know, Jerry Garcia played with the Grateful Dead for over 30 years and always added incredible guitar improvisations to live songs. The thing about the finger though comes from when he was a child. When he was young his brother accidently cut off one of Jerry's fingers. Hence the name "Jerry Garcia's Finger" :) HAPPY HOLIDAYS "May All Your Memories Be Bright"-1997 Soundgarden Christmas Card Kris Hermansen ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 09:24:17 -0600 From: "Pamela J. Like I said before, I really dont wanna be responsible for the list, and luckily Koggle has volunteered to run it. She set up a form at http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/6953/test.html. It will only take a sec to fill out, and if you don't have something on the page just leave it blank. I encourage everybody to go and register, that way mabye we wont get anymore "whoever, i lost you e-mail, contact me" letters. So take 2 minutes out of your day and go there. I know on page 193 of the Rolling Stone with (Ugggh) Tori Spelling on the cover is an ad for 1998 calendars. And under music it does say that there is an SG one. There's no picture or anything so I have no way of verifying the quality, but there it is. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 14:42:33 EST From: Nothng2Say Subject: Re: 1998 calenders??? Oh, and I know the SPIN magazine Calendar, with Anthony Keidis on the cover does have November dedicated to Soundgarden, plus it has all the members birthdays. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 13:32:32 PST From: Cerise Robinson Subject: Chris's house Hello all...for those of you who have never had a chance to visit Seattle (specifically the ALKI region), here's a nice little description of Chris's house (My science teacher runs by it every day): There's a circular driveway that runs thru a large wall built around the house. There's a lot of plants and trees and stuff, as well as numerous flower beds. The house itself is very large, probably 2-3 stories. There's a wheelchair ramp (for who, I don't know), and there's often A LOT of cars parked in the driveway. I've never actually SEEN any of the boys, but apparently my teacher has spoken to Ben, who was lounging out by the mailbox, smoking a cigarette. Since April 9, activity has obviously subsided a lot (no more parties or anything), but there are still people over there. Oh, and often, an elderly lady can be seen thru the kitchen window (Chris's mom...??) Well, that's pretty much it, and don't get mad if you think I'm spying on him, cuz I'm not. My teacher is. :) Dark as roses and fine as sand.... I was also reminded at how quickly people jump ship when something isn't considered "the shit" anymore. I mean what happened to music, it is really in a weird state right now in my opinion. I really miss my "Grunge" days, at least I could follow music in a magazine like Spin and not be pulled in 50 different directions, its like Puffy, Biggy, Chumbawamba, the Spice Girls, Hanson - what the hell? Music is all over the place, I don't know if I should laugh at this crap or cry. And I wont even say a word about MTV (I missed the year in rock, I guess I didnt miss much- thanks for leaving the breakup news out you BASTARDS!) but what do you expect when even they cant decide what the hell the flavor of the month is anymore, and it OBVIOUSLY isn't anything out of Seattle, seeing everyone is declaring "grunge" dead. Leave everyone say what they want, the word "grunge" may be dead and so be it, all it did was promt every idiot who cant think for themself to jump on the bandwagon and declare their love for all that is grunge, but most on this list understand that the whole thing was a little more than an overblown fad or way to make a buck. So let assholes like Chuck Eddy, write thier mean little reviews and let Spin print them, im sure they will say worse about their "artists of the year" a few years from now. That review really pissed me off in a major way, I agree with the others on the list who think this guy has something against Chris or something, because he was way out of line, considering the other garbage I saw throughout the whole magazine(also pissed off Jeff Buckley got so little coverage as well)all I can say is, what a year, I hope 98 shows more promise, and it seems with the solo stuff it will (cant wait to see the reviews on this!!)and maybe, just maybe our boys will get together again, stranger things have happened. At least the KOTS card and mailer got me in better spirits this weekend!!!! Buy some shirts for everyone for Christmas so that ass Chuck Eddy wont make that dumb T-shirt remark again!
