"trying though i know its wrong" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 09:34:55 EST From: SpoOnArTis Subject: ICQ, IRC, AOL........ Hey all. I had me an idea last night. I was thinking that someone (me if neccessary) should start up a list of members' ICQ nicks & numbers. Then I thought that if we were gonna do that, why not include AOL screen names and IRC nicks too? Just an idea I thought I'd throw out. I think that someone (mabye Seth) used to have a list of people on SOMMS, and that was great. We need something like that again. Like I said, if neccessary I would do it, but I'd have to take everybody's name and stuff by mail since I have no idea how to use scripts and make forms. It realy wouldn't be too hrd once you got the script, you'd only have to make 4 pages- the title page (or whatever) that had links to all of the other pages. Then you could make 3 other pages, one for each thing (AOL, IRC, and ICQ) Just throw all of the data in a table and w/ the script and form you wouldn't even have to touch the page. E-mail me if you wanna do it. But like I said, its just an idea, I dont wanna get caught up as the ringleader of this thing and get in over my head like i did w/ the webring..... ~Matt "Imitation is Suicide"- Emerson ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 15:33:34 GMT From: SIMON 'Hellboy' ROBERTS <973790971@97.HUMBER.AC.UK> Subject: Sound Gubbins Hello, plenty to get thru, so on with the show..... Was reading NME this week and saw a news piece on Matt joining SP in the studio. It when something like this:- FORMER SG DRUMMER MATT CAMERON HAS SPENT A WEEK AUDITIONING WITH SP. A SOURCE CLOSE TO CAMERON SAID: "THE SESSIONS ARE MEANT TO HELP THE TWO PARTIES FEEL EACH OTHER OUT." HOWEVER, SP SPOKESMAN STRESSED THE GROUP WERE LOOKING AT A NUMBER OF DRUMMERS AND THAT CAMERON WAS INADVERTANTLY RECOMMENDED BY THEIR FORMER DRUMMER, JIMMY CHAMBERLAIN. THE SP SPOKESMAN SAID: "THE ONLY DRUMMER JIMMY RESPECTS IS MATT CAMERON. HE WOULD ALWAYS BE TALKING ABOUT HIM. THEY'RE BOTH FROM JAZZ BACKGROUNDS." Please don't start THE argument again, please, I just thought people might be interested in this article. RE:Kim's wah-wah. As far as I know all the band members use (and endorse) Jim Dunlop wahs but I'll have a look in my guitar mags to make sure. I know they appeared in an ad for them but Kim actually says in an interview what kind of wah he uses for the start of Pretty Noose. I'll get back to you on that. The blue picture on the DOTUS CD, over here, is perfectly clear, so I think that must just be the US one. If they did that over here we'd probably take it back coz we'd think it was faulty, rather than design. Jerry Garcia's Finger is a weird instrumental that came on the b-side of Pretty Noose, here in the UK. It's really nice and ambient and probably came about when they were doing Applebite, as it has some of the same sounds and daft moog noises. The title is taken from a story that ran in KERRANG! one week where they said they'd stolen one of Garcia's fingers. Didn't read the article at the time so I have no clue as to what they were on about. I can't believe some of you can't hear the Beatles influence on songs like BHS and BUTOW! I recommend the Beatles' 'White' album to any SG fan as it contains some of the best songs they ever did. Songs like Happiness Is A Warm Gun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Yer Blues, ...Me And My Monkey and, of course, Helter Skelter (the song that invented The Riff) are all great songs and still hold water to this day. Kim actually said that when he first heard Chris' demo for BUTOW he thought the line "Give you enerything I've got..." sounded familliarly Beatles-y and, indeed, it turns up on I'm So Tired. The use of a leslie amplifier on BHS is what gives that track it's Beatles feel and BUTOW has that effect on Chris' voice that makes him sound like Lennon, so the Beatles are definately there in the music but that's certainly something I really like, especially on Superunknown and DOTUS. Oh, and a mate of mine, who is a die hard Beatles fan, says that Dusty sounds like a song called Rain, never heard it myself but I believe him. Right that's me done and now I'm gone. Hellboy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 09:47:35 -0600 From: Geoff Subject: Re: my wave video! I believe performance clips from the my wave video could have been taken from one of 2 shows or both: the Calgary show Aug 11, 1994 or the Edmonton show the night previous. Both shows were filmed. Check out the live clip from Hype! which seems to have been filmed at the calgary show. (I paused it near the beginning when it zooms in on somebody's ticket) http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/multimedia/video/index-live.html> So, it is possible that your friend is in the my wave video; only people who were at one of the 2 shows would know what was filmed at which show. BTW, the kickstand video seems to have been shot at one of those 2 shows also --they are wearing the same clothes. Anybody have any ideas about this? I saw the TV commercial for their album, and I must say that their lead singer looks one HELL of a lot like Chris. The only difference that I see is the hair length and color. Otherwise, he could almost be a clone. His voice, on the other hand, sounds almost nothing like Chris's. He sounds, pretty much, like a Layne Staley rip-off. ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 09:52:55 -0600 From: Gary Rees Subject: Re: year in disgust Well they may not have mentioned it in the YEAR in ROCk.. but in Rolling Stone " 1997 Rock 'n' Roll " Yearbook they had a a sorta big part for them for the month of April when they broke up. The video was filmed in Edmonton and Calgary, definitely both. I live in Edmonton, and there's a guy who used to live half a block away who's in it, and while staying in Calgary, I met a girl who's not in it but was at the show. She said there were cameras, and I'm pretty sure that a better part of it is from Calgary. Not sure about the Kickstand video, if you really care I could try to find out. I really like it, my favs are "The Ending" and "Declaration of Conformity". You can tell that it is all analog. The CD booklet is very strange. I would definatly get it, it isnt like Hater, but it is still good. -Nick "If you were mine to give I might throw it away" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 00:08:13 -0500 From: NIKI FREER Subject: 1998 calenders??? hey sommsters... i'm in a bit of a pinch... i've been totally unable to find a SG calender anywhere... and i need 2 of them... if anyone has access to ones for sale, please pick me up one. i'm totally trustworthy on the money and i'm working a lot now, so i'd be able to get it off as soon as you can pick it up. so, anyone who can find one for me, get it and e-mail me that you've got it. i'll let the whole list know (just for ease) when i've gotten 2 of them... thanks guys, i hope you can help me out... desperate, mind riot ____ and if i'm condemned let me rest on my pillow dream of those moments so few and if i'm blessed i'll be chasing your shadow there i go, nowhere... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ S O U N D G A R D E N 1 9 8 4 - 1 9 9 7 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Dec 1997 00:45:13 EST From: Lilricky81 Subject: Re: Year in Disgust i feel your disgust .....i just finished watching mtv with the hopes of some small reflection....maybe a mini recap...i should have known, we both should have know, the entire list should have known that once again mtv would cheat us out of something so worthwhile ...instead, we were subjected to an entire year packed w/ ska....that's what made me utterly disgusted. i think that it's somewhat significant that a particular band brought the end to a musical genre, a genre that they created themselves & wasted so much attention on because they thought it was "cool" at the time. sg has been given the back of everyone's hand, in a business that uses people as if they were disposable kleenex. -CATS4KIM ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 13 Dec 1997 to 14 Dec 1997 ************************************************
