Jen ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 03:07:26 EST From: Geek Girl Subject: Matt's words at the Vancouver Intl. Drum Fest Hey list. Since most of the list seems to be up in arms about this Matt and Smashing Punkins thing.... I wanted to post this to ease anyones worried minds... This is just a few quote from Matt while he spoke at the Vacouver Intl. Drum Fest. last Sunday night. These are direct quotes from him... ( Thanks to Vikki Anselmo for taping it, trascibing it ( parts of it.. I dont have the whole thing yet ) and for giving me some of the exerts to post!! ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------- Host announces Matt as an "up-and-coming drummer who has really laid down the ground work of some modern playing." Matt Cameron (self-intro): (Note: He was really nervous. He kept rocking and shifting and kicking an imaginary rock.) "This is kind of a new experience for me. I'm used to playing with other musicians and playing solo is kinda like coming out here without my pants on, so I'm just envisioning all of you with no clothes on, so just keep that in mind." Q: Are you playing with anyone, Matt? MC: "Um, I've got a band in Seattle called 'The Wellwater Conspiracy' and we just released a CD. Um, gonna do some recording sessions here next week with Smashing Pumpkins. Um, I've got a few bands that I'm playing with in Seattle, so I'm kinda FREELANCING right now." Q: Have you thought about releasing a drumming album? MC: Yeah, um, I've been toying with that idea for a number of years and the way I write now and the way I've written in the past has always been kind of incomplete songs. You know, I'm not a singer so I sometimes find it hard to add a vocal line, which in the genre that I'm familiar with kind of completes the song. Um, but I do eventually want to release a record." Well there ya have it, right from the horses mouth... I guess it best to say... even though I posted about Matt in a photo shoot with SP........ its not a definte thing yet... like he said, he's "FREELANCING right now" just gonna do some recording sessions with SP" Does anyone remember when Matt played on the Eleven CD 'thunk'? Jack had just left the band to join Pearl Jam.... they had'nt found a replacement for him so they asked Matt to do some recording on the CD because they were in a pinch....I really dont see this SP thing much diffrently than the Eleven thing ( the only difference being SG was still together ) Even if he was to join SP I think that Matt could make some considerable differences in their music. SP are'nt a bad band right now... and with Matt with 'em it could only get better! So come on guys.. Lets give Matt and SP a break. Roger that, Over and Out. I don't know if I read the post wrong, but that seems very (slightly) odd (way-huh huh, JEBEDIAH HUMOUR!)that you say there is no release for the Bleed together single. You see, I bought it here at HMV in Melbourne Australlia about oh, um 5-8months ago, and there were heaps of copies, it wasn't like it was an import or anything, but the othe versionwith the free poster that I bought was. His two sole comments were 1) "What is Tom Petty doing on the drums?" 2) "Who is that rat playing bass?" What a jackass, eh? I'm finally getting him to listen to SG, after last year he vowed he never would. He has already made a tape, mostly of older stuff like Loud Love, Outshined, and Reach Down. And every morning, he gets to wake up to Chris too, as I have put up a large poster across from his bed. :) Later, Andy "I don't care what you've got I don't care what you need I don't want anything..." - C.Cornell ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 10:03:21 -0800 From: "S. I've listened to Sunshower too many times(not like I mind:) and have changed some of the lyrics for sunshower from the one on the page. Dark as Roses and Fine as sand I feel your healing in your sting again I hear you laughing and my soul is saved On fogotten graves you cry Crawl like ivy up my spine Through my nerves and into my eyes Cuts like anguish; recollections of better days gone by Chorus: But it's alright When you're all in pain and you feel the rain come down Oh, it's alright when you find your way Then you see it disappear Oh, it's alright Though your garden's gray I know all your graces someday we'll flower, noooh.... In a sweet sunshower In a sweet sunshower Eyes like oceans so far away Feathered trails to a better way Worried mornings turn into days and into worried nights (chorus) Oh, in a sweet sunshower Open sweet sunshower I know all your graces someday we'll flower In a sweet in a sweet sunshower and it's alright all you feel, are today are today It's alright all you feel, are today are today....are today...(repeated) The original pretty noose ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 15:01:38 -0500 From: "Steven Russell Jr." Subject: viewing the future through the past Hey list! ok, this post is sort of SG related...I picked up Hendrix's _Band of Gypsys_ on CD today. This could possibly be the tightest band ever (Jimmy Hendrix, Buddy Miles and Billy Cox). These three got together for a one off show on New Years Eve 1969 at the Fillmore East (NY). If you want to hear a guitar sing....buy this CD. "Machine Gun" is my fave JH song ever :) hehe...if you want to hear where that PJ guitarist steals his JH riffs from :)))) you get the idea. If anyone liked the spacy jam side of SG....you might want to pick this up...it's got the same vibe. This recording even has the "edgy noise" that can be found on the earlier SG recordings (SL-Badmofi). "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" isn't on this release...but would of easily fit right in. Oh yeah...i mentioned hendrix and SG about a year ago...and i used the phrase "flying his freak flag". Well the inside of the CD contains a pic of a freak flag. It's just a regular USA flag with the peace sign on the blue part instead of the stars. I really think that this was the direction SG was headed for. Becoming Zeppelinesque in sound...more jammy with hints of experimentation and radio friendly singles peppered in the albums. Nothing wrong with that...but if you ever want to get a feeling for what might have happened next. This is it.... Ok...maybe combine this CD with Zep IV, Moby's ambient side and the Ramones - _Rocket to Russia_ :)))) I know not many of you are fans of Hendrix on this list...but if you really miss SG and want to hear one of their main influences...check this out in your local used CD bin...or maybe you have a really cool relative with an ancient vinyl collection :))) Which leads to my tip for the day...when cleaning your vinyl albums...don't use soap and water :) s. - school still sucks ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 1997 15:29:57 -0800 From: Ken Casey Subject: Sunshower My friend came up to me today with the Sunshower lyrics I loaned her and had the most interresting idea about what they could be about. Get a copy of them and look at them, and then tell me that its impossible that Chris isn't talking to his fans about the break up. I know, its just one thing out of many, but it fits quite well, and I'm flattered to take it as that. I always thought Matt was better than that. Playing with the Smashing Pumpkins has made me lose alot of respect for him. I mean sure he can do whatever tha fuck he wants to, but the Smashing Pumpkins absolutly make me sick. It's probably Billy Corgan for the most part trying to be one of those "im scared for life and im gonna be an angst ridden rocker" he may have problems but come on!!!!!! its pathetic. Matt made great music with soundgarden Room A Thousand Years Wide is one of my fav SG songs and he wrote some other great music. Whats he gonna do now! I wonder what made him make that desicion? Well I personally dont think it wuz a good one....but i guess its not gonna make a diffrence. On a happy note im loving Ave Maria more and more everyday.... Chris sounds amazing...beats Seasons by a mile!!!!! he should definatly make more music like that... but i think his solo career is gonna be mellow....he writes completly diffrent solo....but it still sounds good so i aint worried! On the inside there is a beautiful black and white picture of the guys *smiling* (well, Matt looks a little psycho..) and the background is red cutain.. the only color on the whole thing.. below each of them is their signatures in white.. it's very cool... lemme know if anyone else gets these..
