Actually, that was BIRTHDAY BOY MATT who said he wanted to call it 'Comin' Atcha'. Hey Matt! Hope a happy birthday is comin' atcha! I'm thrilled to hear that WWC still exists, but does anyone know if Ben is in or out? If he's out, who's replacing him? I like it when people don't get it. :) That's kind of the point.. hee hee! Thanks for the comments on the Balls page! Everyone be sure to check back occasionally.. I'll be rotating in new images now and then. In between handling mailbombs. 2) Someone said: > The length of the CD is 79:03. Now, this > doesnt seem weird. But from being around a > lot of recording EQ and knowlege of CDS. > CD's only can hold 74 minutes of stuff. Does > anyone know how they did this? Here's the answer.. this part i AM sure of... The 74 minutes is set aside for PLAYABLE music. By that I mean there is NON-PLAYABLE non-track time on all CDs. This is in the form of time before and after the real tracks (the extreme beginning and end of disc).. it's what the laser first scans when a CD is inserted. This part contains the markings and all that stuff that tells the CD player what kind of disc it is and technical stuff none of us can understand. Additionally, there is the thing where in between tracks there is anywhere from 2-10 seconds of blank nothingness. This is when, after a track, the counter on the player goes into negative seconds and counts down to the next track. All of these things are not included in the 74 minute PLAYABLE time, so often CDs go over 74 minutes. Though it does seem odd that this would add up to 5+ extra minutes.. but who knows, with lots of tracks, all the extra pieces could very well add up to 5 minutes. Also, I'm not sure about this, but 74 may just be an accepted standard. It may not be set in stone. But the consortium who developed CDs probably labeled 74 as the "safe" length. I'm sure someone could try to manufacture an 80 minute CD and it MIGHT work, but you'd run into problems. But again, I'm not sure about this part. Have fun burning 80 minute CDs my friends! -- -js mailto:jordans@ucsd.edu http://sdcc10.ucsd.edu/~jasnodgr/fm/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 02:36:28 -0800 From: The Cat Subject: Sorry Seth...... .....this is probably the last thing you will hear of me talking about Matt joining the Smashing Pumpkins. But I think this is an interesting subject. First off....... HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a Mr. MATT CAMERON!!!!!!!!! Who turns a young 35 today!! Back to our regulary scheduled programming: IF there WAS the SLIGHTEST itty-bitty possibility Matt joined SP then I'm sure Billy Corgan would be honored (who wouldn't?), because he thanked Soundgarden's and Nirvana's music at that MTV Music Awards show in 1996. So from that I'd say Soundgarden is either an influence or admiration of Billy's. Even if Billy 'broke into tears' over Kim's comments he would have Matt as SP's drummer in a second. But this will never happen because Matt's style doesn't agree with SP's music. That's enough about that :). Maria Joseph- I know a girl whose father used to be in a jazz band with Matt. Flog me for not having the name of the band.....I'll have to ask her bout that. Hellboy- That guy 'Terence' started the 'Chris becomes Tool's Lead Singer' rumor on the SG Fan Board. Funny :)......he even went to the lengths of stating the exact time and date of the "announcement" in Pacific-Eastern times (or something), which is probably why some people bought it....... Well, surprisingly that's it :). One last thing, Nine Inch Nails are not techno, they are industrial. Pretty good at it too.....though some of the lyrics on The Downward Spiral reenforce the idea that those 'Explicit Lyrics' stickers are not just there for show..... How exactly they did it, I'm not exactly sure. A friend of mine said he had a Nirvana bootleg CD where the length was over 2 hours and it played on a regular CD player. He brought it to my attention that it seems that most CD's don't use up all the physical space on the CD, if you hold it up to the light and examine it. He said that his Nirvana CD used it all. Maybe that's what these audio marathon CD's do. Not that I have any problem with long CD's; I like them quite a bit. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 12:39:05 -0600 From: "Simon V. Matt is one-fourth of the subject of this list, and we all have a right to express our opinons, Billy Corgan probably never did invite Matt Cameron to audition for the Pumpkins, but us as Americans have rights to express our opinions about whatever we choose, fact or fiction. And besides, it's fun to talk about. --Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 13:18:37 -0500 From: Jamesetta Simpson Subject: Thank You Matt!!! I ordered & recieved WWC's new CD in the mail the other day. (Hater fans, there's a big similarity in the music. Enough that I believe if you like Hater you'll like this too) Anyway, I thought Kim and/or Ben were members of Wellwater? How wrong am I & why am I wrong? Could someone please explain that to me. I actually took somemore time from my "busy schedule" to look at the SG Discography page. I guess you know where I'm heading with this. So has anyone heard Soundgarden sing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida? I would like to know what that's on.. There's other cover songs that I didn't know they did that I want to know more about but let's start with this one :) Thanks - U can know by looking where it says "From:" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 16:33:43 -0500 From: Alissa Corsi Subject: HAPPY BDAY MR.
