Nick, I'm old enough to be your mother, so I'm going to put on my best Mom frown here. People have their own personal idealogical or financial reasons for buying or not buying albums, and stupidity rarely enters into it. Okay? You're too young to be driving a bulldozer anyway, and if you really are "the biggest at (your) high school" you probably need to lose some weight. ;) Jen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 06:11:19 -0500 From: Cemetery Starr Subject: Re: breathe with me You know what? That's probably true. I do own every song on A-sides, and it does remind me of the breakup. However, A-sides represents more than that to me. The first time I listened to A-sides, I was affected. Maybe this sounds stupid, but it almost felt as if Soundgarden was taking me on a trip through time. It still blows my mind, even now. (I've had A-sides since the day it came out) Sure, I feel melancholy. Sure, it still hurts. But in a perverse way, it gives me hope, and opens up a new chapter. Most bands actually have super-secret code names that they play club shows under. Only the die-hard fans hear about the names, or the people that are club goers and just happen upon the bands. It's pretty apparent that people get sick of playing superstadiums. As far as Soundgarden still being a band, I'm not saying that I'm shocked by the idea of it, but I'd be pretty surprised if we hadn't already heard about it on MTV News. =) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 15:21:09 -0800 From: Laurie Casey Subject: HELP ME! Anyway, my point is if you don't plan on purchasing A-Sides, what >exactly are the reasons you won't? Okay... I haven't purchased it yet. The reason is because I would rather buy Very Special Christmas 3 or whatever that Soundtrack is. I'll end up getting all three, maybe. But who cares about that. What I'm really replying to is the thing that it reminds you of the breakup too much. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there's any point in anybody mourning over the death of Soundgarden. Read what I'm about to say very carefully, please. If you had to throw out all of your Soundgarden music, and would never hear of them again, but lived on knowing that they once existed and the only memory you had left was what you would hum, or scratch out on paper and play on your guitar, then that's something to mourn for. But let's be honest... none of us did that. As a matter of fact, I listen to Soundgarden myself these days. And I've decided that I'm going to listen to every single song and every album very thoroughly one of these days. Really focus in on it. I hear things I never heard before. I realize things I hadn't earlier. Their music isn't dead. It's still very alive. And while there will never be any more Soundgarden albums, the music still lives on. We are very priveledged as fans of the band in the sense that they're still putting out music. Wellwater Conspiracy is a prime example. So is what Chris Cornell is doing right now. Matt did that Flying Traps thing. Kim is doing nicely--seems like he's the one that decided to sit back and look at everything he's missed in these past few years. For those of you that aren't rational enough to say that the music still lives and that hearing live performances isn't enough, then do it this way. Let the band be happy. Would you rather prod them along, making them do something they don't want to do, or would you rather see them enjoying themselves? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Nov 1997 19:00:50 -0500 From: Nick Boos Subject: Re: Hater I dont know for sure about the Hater break up. Here's what I thought of: I was listening to Like Suicide for the 4000th time and the lyrics, "She lived like a murder how she'd fly so sweetly" struck me. As we all know, the origin of this song supposedly comes from Chris's mercy-killing of an injured bird. We can therefore assume that the "she" is the bird. A flock of crows is called a "murder". I dunno why, I guess it's just like a group of lions is called a "pride". So, um, no big revelation, I guess. Just a further potential insight into Chris Cornells adeptness at lyric writing. Also, I'm sure it's been pointed out before, but the main riff for phunpurephun on Pigeonhead's "The Full Sentence" (on which Kim plays some guitar) is the same as that of "Blind Dogs". Even if that's old news, it's more fun than one more person bringing up the Footsteps/Times of Trouble thing.:) Anyway.
