They made something very important to me. They gave me feelings. They helped me to discover many things. They even helped me to get my girlfriend! They did many things for all of us. Now it's time we do something for them. Just let them rest and all the outside world forget them. Like they always wanted to do. Look buddy, what happens when a dozen other guys have the name "Mind Riot" on a SG mailing list. Either people aren't too original, or they copy one another. Sure, mind riot is a popular name, but for christ's sake, it's fucking overdone! >and when out in a situation where no one knows much about >soundgarden, >these names ARE original.. not many people know 'mind riot' is the >name >of a song.. it's a very good expression. [Dave George-Cosh] If they didn't know anything about SG, how would they get the name, or why even bother with a name from a band you don't know? What ever happened to John, or something like that? we really don't need shit like this on the list people choose a handle, name, login, whatever you may call it that is related to their interests.. (unlike some, mine for example, that are randomly chosen words) because of most people on this list being interested in soundgarden and the band members, songs etc.. there obviously is reason for them to be chosen as their names.. and when out in a situation where no one knows much about soundgarden, these names ARE original.. not many people know 'mind riot' is the name of a song.. it's a very good expression.. and what do you mean 'quit it'.. people have established personalities around their titles and online names, so it's not so easy.. remember that [Dave George-Cosh] Now you're making me confused. get off everyone's back and keep the list pleasant.. you really think conflict is a good thing? sure it's your opinion.. and your opinion only.. remember that.. [Dave George-Cosh] It's my opinion, not yours however. I have at least three other people who have privately e-mailed me saying that they support me. and sorry to burst your bubble but i can't post to the list due to previous troubles i've made.. [Dave George-Cosh] I don't wanna burst yours. Personnally, I can't find a reason why you want to argue about this. Look at your name, The Koggle. That's pretty cool. OK. But imagine you're the sysop on Hotmail. After looking at all the users names, there are 14 Mind Riots (Mind_riot_2, etc), 22 spoonman's, 5 spoonmen's :), and 7 soundgarden's. Now, that's talking ridiculous. Dave P.S. Sure, mind riot is a popular name, but for christ's sake, it's >fucking overdone! Okay guys. Here are my two cents. 1) Dave needs to get a REAL mail program. 2) Dave is obviously trying to prod the group for some activity, and he is now laughing at your efforts to dissuade him from his point of view. 3) The people named Mind Riot or whatever didn't realize that they were being unoriginal because their names were independently conceived. Even if Dave were serious, his ideas would undoubtedly be flawed, and I can't understand why people think its constructive to reason with the ignorant. Atleast once a week on SOMMS I read some message that is so small-minded, so stupid, that its almost as bad as the crap on alt.music.soundgarden. I'm glad that the list has changed as to just ignore such messages rather than start a big flame war and fill the digest with whiny crap no one wants to read. I really think that this message should receive the same treatment. It's obviously not going to make anyone change their pseudonym, and it only serves to criticize people for the pure fun of it. I think its a joke, a test to measure member's responses to those ideas, so I'm not saying anything against Dave in particular. All I'm saying, is why should we waste our valuable time on this, and make fools of ourselves? I haven't and don't plan on doing it either. I have hated the whole idea of a SG greatest hits collection to begin with, and every song on there I own already, and buying A-Sides would remind me too much of the breakup everytime I looked at it. Anyway, my point is if you don't plan on purchasing A-Sides, what exactly are the reasons you won't? -vince ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 17:25:28 -0800 From: "S. I've had SOMMS for a while now and this is the first time I've written. Soundgarden is my favorite band and I know I'll always be a dedicated fan. When Soundgarden broke up it felt like the world had come to it's end. But Soundgarden is immortal.Their music will live forever.I have never had so much appreciation for a band in my life. When I heard about Chris Cornell's release "Ave Maria" and then the release of Soundgarden's "A-sides" I was so...well there isn't a word to describe it. I had the the lyrics to "Bleed Together" but I had never heard the song. That song is amazing (as well for "ave maria")but it's no surprise coming from an amazing band.I'm just glad that they're one of those bands who can't be labeled. You can't classify them. They wont bow down to any particular genre.Even if they ever did their sound would be too unique.Soundgarden is one of those bands who stay true to themself, not only them but to their fans also. -Candice/14/Orlando um...by the way.Sunshower hasn't gotten any airplay here.Does anyone know where I can get the lyrics?? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 22:36:01 -0500 From: Rebekah Henderson Subject: Re: breathe with me I haven't bought "A-Sides" either. It is on my Christmas list though. For an album consisting entirely of songs I already own, I didn't think it worth my own personal money so I'm allowing someone else to spend their money on it for me in the name of Christmas! :) Ain't it great? I would rather spend my money on trading for bootlegs and getting shows I have never heard before and hearing the live sound that we all love and cherish, and for me, it's hearing the sound I never got to witness in person. That means a whole lot more to me than A&M's (not Soundgarden's) greatest hits album. The reason I want the album at all, you ask? The pictures. May Soundgarden be with you. It may have songs that we have all heard. But it has that really cool booklet with an awsome pic of ben. Oh, and I am new on the SOMMS mailing list, so i would just like to say hey to everybody. I am 14, I live in Seattle Washington. I love SUB POP. I have talked to matt like a couple of times. I love soundgarden, I have 10 of there CDS and one of there records, "Screaming Life" I hope to meet some really cool soundgarden fans, because I am the biggest at my high school. -Nick "The Slave on a Bulldozer" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Nov 1997 20:54:29 -0800 From: Laurie Casey Subject: Chris' secret show Well guys, Chris fools us again.. I suppose that since I haven't heard about it on the list yet, none of us managed to be there. Aparently Chris showed up last night with a couple of friends and played a show last night somewhere in Seattle. I heard this from the people.. if it had just been the first I would have denounced it.. (he has told me Soundgarden has broken up every week since April 9th..) but I heard it from another friend who has inside info (he is friends with alice in chain's drummers girlfriend, and I guess Chris and AiC's drummer are good friends) Anyway.. just letting you know Chris got the better of us... AGAIN!
