I live in Australia, and SG doesn't seem to do as well here as they do in America. Someone let me know where it is. Also, how's Bleed Together doing? Mike spoonman@netlink.com.au ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Nov 1997 09:04:20 +0100 From: sabrina Subject: Another A-sides review Taken from the allstar site.... Soundgarden A-sides Rating: 6 (out of 10) When it comes time to reasses the Seattle bands of the early '90s, history will be kind to Soundgarden. No, they didn't bust down the doors with Beatle- like aplomb as did Nirvana, nor did they achieve the Zeppelin-ish commercial stature of Pearl Jam; instead they followed their own evolution, quietly, on their own terms, with tortoise- like self- assurance. A-Sides chronologizes the ride, from the unpretentious yet decidedly metal bashings of songs like "Nothing to Say" and "Get on the Snake" to a more ambitious song construction phase, which turned out such later beauties as "Fell on Black Days" and "The Day I Tried to Live," although they'll probably most be remembered for the much- maligned White Album resonance of "Black Hole Sun." Notice that all three of the above songs are culled from their commercial apogee, Superunknown, which underscores the fact that this is simply a greatest- hits package -- nothing more, nothing less. And that's a shame, because each of Soundgarden's albums are replete with lesser- known nuggets ripe for more creative cherry- picking. -John Bitzer sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Nov 1997 11:24:15 -0500 From: Cemetery Starr Subject: a thought... With all this talk about "A-sides" (which I got and liked alot), I think it would be really cool if Soundgarden made a compilation of *B-sides*. That would be good for people like me, who have no Soundgarden singles. =( Cemetery ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Nov 1997 13:03:18 -0500 From: DeeDee Kamp Subject: Cup-O-Nazi Soundgarden anthem? in refernece to the thread last week or so...Soundgarden anthems... this is taken from Cd Books Soundgarden by Jon Ewing Kim says of Nazi Drvier, "The song is about cutting up Nazis and making stew of them. We used 'Driver' because it made a cool name. It sounds better than 'Nazi Stew', 'Nazi Soupmaker', 'Nazi Cup-A-Soup, or indeed 'Cup-O-Nazi. A title can be a poster sometimes. It can be a slogan. Hey, it can be an anthem!" hmmm... DeeDee ps...One year ago today...the infamous Chicago Sommsfest '96...a big thanks to Kathy and Toni for making it all possible... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Nov 1997 16:03:42 -0500 From: Ryan Moore Subject: Bleed together doing Well Bleed Together is doing quite well in the Las Vegas area. The song hasn't been played here in Maryland in the past month or so. I only heard it once and that was such a long time ago. Even when there is a double dose of an artist, they never play that song. - Maria : the Matt Cameron Hootchie Princess "Oh, yeah, Mr. Bunchy Pants - everyone kind of liked it but somehow it didn't end up flying." - Matt on the title of Down on the Upside ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 9 Nov 1997 to 10 Nov 1997 ***********************************************
