It was so funny!! You guys probably know what it's about, but I don't care because I'll bore you with details anyways.. Alain and Natasha from Eleven are portraying these reporters that absolutely hate Soundgarden's sound and etc.. And Alain continuosly says and points out that Soundgarden is loud.. he just keeps saying that and it's funny.. Kim would always pick up his can and drink from it and that was funny and then at one point they showed a shot where Kim drank out of his can and then flashed a shot of Chris with his sleeve in his mouth biting the button :) I thought that was funny and Chris, you could tell, was pretending when he did that because his smirk was very noticable. Kim was also grinning a lot, so I could tell that they had fun doing it. And it was funny in Matt's case also because Natasha wanted to ask him a question and then she interupted and disagreed with something Matt said and Matt was like, "Excuse! I'm not done! Let me finish!", he'd have his pause and then continue.. it was kinda kewl. And he'd make all these faces and gestures... I think he did a good impression of a person getting really angry at a reporter :) Ben was funny also, I must say!! During the WHOLE interview he had his head on his hand and he was totally not interested :) And when they asked him a question he was all cool about it and gave short answers... And then at one point he and Matt were making weird hand gestures :)~ Chris gave some really "stupid" answers which I thought were hilarious as well :) It was soo amazing and it was 19 minutes. At the beginning Alain introduces the performers and says his feelings about them and then the band performs and then Alain says something else to get into the interview and he introduces Natasha and they begin. And for the 1st time I got to see the Frowngarden part on tape. I saw it at Seth's and loved it and I saw it on tape and just cracked up! it's just sooo funny (i explained it before). I recommend you buy this tape if you don't have it already. It is worth it and I ordered it from the SG Fan Club. Also, today went well because I put some SG cd's on layaway at the music store, including the Sub Pop 200 cd and the Sub Pop 200 box.. I also got one of the BUTOW imports and something else I think... I forgot.. I bought a My Wave single for 5.99.. it's got My Wave (album version), Spoonman (remix), Birth Ritual (original demo version), and My Wave (live). The Spoonman remix is just outta this galaxy. I heard a clip of it at Seth's a loved it and now I have the whole song and it's soo amazing. I'm gonna take it to my Percussion Essemble class tomorrow so that my teacher and the class can hear that song because we can listen and talk about the spoons and drumming (we've done iron butterfly, genesis, and metallica before so why not some SG? I've been DYING to do this but could never think of a song...). The original Birth Ritual is pretty neat. It's kewl to hear the contrast between both versions.. and for Seth: You know that one line in Birth Ritual where you have the "?" next to "birth"? Well, it is "birth" so it's not questionable.. i heard it on the original demo...Well, guys, I guess that's all for tonight. See-ya round! -Maria, the lucky one P.S. The X-Mas Album comes out tomorrow... And yes, Mr. Cornell will be forced to sing my name :)~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Oct 1997 17:59:24 -1000 From: James Coles <808state@PIXI.COM> Subject: superunknown CD Rom For those of you that own the "Alive in the Superunknown Cd Rom" I have a question. How does one get into "The Superunknown" you know the Badmotorfinger logo? I've tried numerous times but can't figure the thing out! I would love to see the live version of "Kickstand" and the "My Wave " video. It's driving me crazy. Please E-mail me before I lose my little mind. Much Mahalos,(going mental) Nancy :[ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 11:33:59 -0400 From: "Lane, Karen" Subject: Ave Maria Well, I am listening to Ave Maria and I must say it is very different than anything I have heard Chris do in the past. It is very gothic and rhythmic, which I guess is to be expected from an old english christian song. I must say I really like it. The intro, which was arranged by Natasha of Eleven, sounds more like Holloween than Christmas with the heavy organ. Although it could really give atmosphere in a Cathedral at midnight mass. Chris's voice is kind of lilting and melodic and spellbinding as always. Anyway, definitely worth picking up ( and it is for a good cause). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 13:05:42 -0400 From: Jenny Grover Subject: March of Crimes/600 School I went Usenet to find out about this stuff, and this is what I turned up (name, etc. withheld and with a few snips): > Wow! those band names really threw me for a loop. I haven't thought about them for ages. Sadly though, I used to have tapes by both bands but haven't been able to find them for years. March of Crimes released a self-produced demo cassette which included my favorite song of theirs "soup kitchen". March of Crimes was Ben:guitar, Steve Nelson:drums, Andy Carrow: bass, and Jon Evanson:vocals (some names probably misspelled). They were from Bainbridge Island, WA around '84 or so. 600 School had some really cool tunes including "I Fell". Here's what I remember of the lyrics: > I fell > in a pile of shit > it was then > I met my girlfriend's parents > and I don't care > what they think of me > I used to have a cassette of their songs that they recorded on a boom box in their living room that actually sounded pretty good. I'm bummed I can't find it anymore. 600 School were Ben:guitar, John Waterman: vocals, Mike Swanzi: Bass, and Chet McKnight: drums. They were from Kingston, WA around '82 or so. > I think I have some photos of MOC from a couple of different shows-one at The Grey Door with the Melvins and one at Mountaineers Hall with GBH (their biggest gig). So, there's a little more info, anyway. I'll let you know if I find out any more. HIV Baby, huh? These guys would have been right up my alley! And PLEASE if anybody hears anything regarding the fate of Hater or WWC, let us know! It's 80 degrees and I'm shivering right now. Note: my 'photographer friend' also works on the Spud Goodman show... He has told me: The Hater 'shoot' was a month ago at the Sub Zero Cafe (previously known as the Off Ramp Cafe) Regarding the Hater breakup-he heard it from a noted Seattle musician that knows Matt. He said that "Hater breaking up and the not playing w/Ben stuff was what Matt had told him personally." He also said that "Ben also left his other band, Devilhead at the same time, the day before the big CD release." On a Kim Thayil note, "Lori- a producer of the Spud Goodman show ran into Kim at the WCW wrestling, at the Key Arena." "The wrestlers broke the stage and the show had to be stopped. When the place cleared, only Kim was left and Lori ran into him again and they talked for a while and Lori showed Kim the broken stage. (Lori had a all access pass) Kim wanted to climb into the broken wrestling ring while no one was around. (Lori Ok'd it).. and they climbed into the ring together with Kim commenting that he really wished that he had a camera and Lori pulled out her camera and took a couple of photos." (I will ask my friend if he can get a hold of copies of these and I'll put them on my website) By the way, my 'photographer freind' tells me that they are trying to get Chris Cornell or Jerry Cantrell for the Spud Goodman show. Turns out that Brian (a cameraman for the Spud Goodman show) was Jerry's teacher in High School and they are still good buds. He also tells me that Silver Mgt. is danncin with the idea of Chris appearing. They didn't say yes, but they didn't say no either. Any of you who want more info on the Spud Goodman show go to http://www.wolfenet.com/~spudg Well..there you have it...hope that clears things up and answers any questions that you had regarding my last 'Hater' post. I'm mean it's just breathtaking! Chris sings it beautifully. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but it's just wonderful. It makes me want to put the Christmas tree up. The music is classical and Chris's voice is so strong and powerful. I'm practically speechless. Everyone needs to buy this album. This is a song that people who have never heard of Soundgarden or Chris Cornell, but are huge fans of "Ave Maria" in all it's many versions, will LOVE! Not only did I get this album today, but I also got "Hype!". They only had one copy and I had them save it for me. It's pretty funny and at times pretty sad. I'm a happy camper. I'm going to go bring the Christmas decorations out of the basement now. May Soundgarden be with you. I was online looking for Queensryche pictures and I went to some radio station's homepage and they had this pic of Queensryche with one of their Djs(I guess). In the corner of the page was a "prev/next" button so I pushed next expecting another Queensryche pic. Instead it was 3 djs and SOUNDGARDEN. They appeared to be in someone's house. The funny thing was that it looked like Kim was holding one of them hostage with a toy ray gun and a head lock. It was kinda wierd. I was on the Imusic SGDN radio thingy on real audio and one of the clips on there was Dusty Moby remix. I'd never heard that before, whats up with the chant like stuff at the beginning? Is that sampled from something else or did Moby or SG record that? Hey, SOmMS! I wrote KOTS from the official SG page about a box set (when we were still all in a fluster about putting one out, with all the rare songs on it that we were posting about for the longest time) and they _finally_ replied to me. This came as a reliefe, but most of all gives me some hope for hte future. Here's the words fromthe mouth of the horse: > -- [ From: Soundgarden * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- > > As you know, Soundgarden will be putting out their greatest hits >release entitled "A-Sides" on Nov. 4th. They are hoping to also put >out a compilation of their b-sides, live songs, covers, and other >rarities in the near future. So don't fret, if you already have >everything on A-Sides, there will be more. > KOTS *celebrating* Okay, one last thing. For anyone who hasn't heard Beyond the Wheel live, go do it right now! I just bought the BHS sun Austrailian (pt. 2) and Beyond the Wheel is positively STUNNING! I sat in shock after hearing it, it was so good! Okay, thats all for now. This is a song that >people who have never heard of Soundgarden or Chris Cornell, but are >huge fans of "Ave Maria" in all it's many versions, will LOVE! I'm going to have to give one hell of a "me too!" to this one. i mean, i really had *no* clue at all what to expect. i had once sang Ave Maria for chorus when i was in 7th grade, maybe, and i don't really recall what it sounded like. but now that i've heard this version, i know i did a completely different one. Chris is just so much more than outstanding. I am forever floored by what he does with himself, and the things he chooses to do with his voice. they always suit him just right and always show off the impeccable talent he's been born with. I mean, to restate what Rebekah said, "I'm speechless." I really am. When the music first came floating across my speakers, I was a bit doubtful. after all, it's a christmas song and this was chris cornell... and when the very first vocal strains "ave maria..." came from within the music, i almost didn't recognize his voice! i checked the back of the CD to see if i was on the right track, but yup- it was chris alright. many many many congrats to chris cornell on his amazing job well done on this production. I had my doubts, but once again he smothered them with his talent. thanks so much!!! mind riot ps- isn't it so funny to think of listening to Ave Maria or Enya's gaelic version of "silent night" in the beginning of October, in a college dorm, with people walking by and giving you strange looks? = ) i love it! > ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Oct 1997 21:22:14 -0400 From: Nadia Standard Subject: It's Christmas time in October. All I have to say about Ave Maria is that it is a wonderful version. It was done so poetically. It kinda sounds like an opera-ish song, which I guess would be explained by the kind of song it is. I do think that there is a future duet in the works between Chris and Natasha. The song wasn't a good indication of how, but I could hear the similarities. After that show, Matt said they had another WWC show in the works for around Halloweenie. LATER on that night, Ben told a certain Canadian list member (hi Geoff) that the Bumbershoot show was their last show ever. Which was par for the course w/ Ben (he likes to rile people up in the name of Marketing). No one here has said anything regarding the breakup of Hater or WWC. I have yet to actually listen to them all, but I pulled out a PJ boot called _Pearl Jam Worldwide_ (half studio oddities and half live stuff) cause it had "Wash" on it and that song was in my head. Anyway, I let it play and got to a studio track called "Footsteps" and it sounded very very familiar. Turns out it's the music for the TOTD cut "Times Of Trouble" with Vedder singing and completly different lyrics. Anyone know what's up with this? I'm assuming since Stone is credited with the music on the TOTD trak that this was his song and Chris just added different vox, but how, why, and when I know not. ~^v^OzzY^v^~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Oct 1997 00:55:28 -0400 From: Angela Woolley Subject: Re: TOTD/Pearl Jam I read somewhere that Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam had written the music to "Footsteps" first and that Chris Cornell heard it, really liked it and rearranged it to become "Times of Trouble" for the TOTD album. Well, don't worry it's linked.....it was by Method Man. Anyway, I was w/ my buddy Ashley and she had just bought the new issue of Guitar World (or something, one of those, it has Flea and Dave Navarro on the cover). Looking through it we found a rap crossing over to rock section, like Rage and Wu-Tang whatever. But there was Method Man saying something along the lines of "I can remember a time when all I had in my CD player was Soundgarden. Black Hole Sun was my shit." Wow, one of those "gansta rappers," who I happen to like, digs Soundgarden! So what if it's a marginal fan song.......I just thought I'd share that SG related item.
