This message is to all the swedes out there on this list(if there is any). I'm writing this in English because i think it would be unfair to the rest of the list.. So if there is any swede out there that is a owner of Somms please reply.. Mostly of all i would like to get my hands on one copy myself but who would be stupid enough to sell his or her copy. So what I'm hoping for is that someone would make me a copy. Big Dumb Swede ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Oct 1997 10:13:13 EDT From: saperl@ALUM.MIT.EDU Subject: Enough already If it isn't one thing, it's another. Of course people whose native language is not English should not be afraid to post. Why anyone would think that is beyond me. The point is that people who have the ability to write correctly should do so as a courtesy to readers. This is not a list rule. This is a general Internet communications guideline. I'd much rather read "was" and "because" and "cool" than "wuz" and "cuz" and "kewl." If you somehow think your creativity and freedom of expression are threatened by this, I'm sorry. If English were not my native language I would certainly appreciate people posting in as "proper" a way as possible. Here are the SOMMS Mailing List Rules: 1. No chain or junk mail. 2. No public personal flames. 3. No forwarding of private messages to the list. 4. No content that is not Soundgarden-related. 5. Any other rules I decide to make up off the top of my head. Here are the SOMMS Mailing List Guidelines: 1. Use COMMON SENSE (you'd think this would be obvious). 2. Keep your posts direct and to the point; avoid useless babble. 3. Use proper English; your mail will be readable by the most subscribers. 4. If you're new, keep quiet for a while until you get a feel for the way things work and the personalities involved. 5. Resist the urge to post 75 times each day. 6. Read the FAQ at http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/faq/ 7. Show a modicum of respect for other subscribers. 8. Don't take it personally. Text does not accurately convey meaning, tone, or intent. That's it. Those of you who are members of the U2 mailing list, for example, will observe that when you subscribed you received 83 million pages of rules and guidelines to follow. I'd like to think that we're all responsible enough here to think about what we're doing and act accordingly without my having to impose all kinds of restrictions. As listadmin it's not my intention to be anything more than a last resort for solving difficulties and someone who tries to keep people focused on the thing that brought us all here in the first place: Soundgarden. -seth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Oct 1997 09:49:25 -0700 From: Alba Subject: Re: NON-AMERICANS, PLEASE READ... I told myself that i was going to say this personally, but I think I wont... I'm mexican and no native english speaker... and I'm 16... >After a year and a half, I've finally had enough of this shit. I have >NEVER seen a list full of people so intolerant. > >Fellow INTERNATIONAL sommsters, it is now time to leave this stupid >childish list. Failing to act now will only delay the inevitable... > hey, I've been on the list for about two years... and I've seen many things happening here... and I've learned from others, specially people who speak english and are from the us... and belive me, in my particular case, I've never seen or recieved any offence from those people... >Lets give what Seth, Aaron, Caryn, Shroom, and many others what they want: >the list they had "before". hey, if it's because you're angry because they want what it used to be, I want it too, I remember that the list was great, it's still great, but there something missing... > >We've been told to "go away", well lets do it and leave the people >mentioned above in their little world... soundgarden can be discussed in >many other ways than the somms list. seems like you've never been really part of somms... I really don't get the reason of why you say that, but it's true, somms used to be a very unite community, where, yeah, I accecpt it, people where cooperating with each other, NO MATTER THEIR NATIONALITY, and the the ones that know about SG, talked about it, and the ones that didn't (which is my case) just listened and learned... >Seth, as long as your "Sherrifs" keep oppressing list members, it just >won't work. Just let the list be for cryin out loud... > >of course, a lot of post content pissed me off too, but i just can't sit >here and tolerate being told to just "go away" without doing it... wait, they "oppressed" YOU or anyone who is NON AMERICAN.... if they offended you , what did you do? you should've done something for they to offend you... calling all non-american to leave the list will not solve a thing... besides I believe that for many of us no matter the nationality, somms has helped us to find other people who live in our respective countries, besides other people from other countries... and no, I'm not leaving.... at least not right now... I believe this was the how where several SOMMsters met the band (unfortunately, I didn't know about this little get together). Anyhow, I went to this show having only been a SG an for a short while, and was unfamiliar with the names of many of their songs. Could someone please tell me what songs they played that night. Here is what I remember: BHS, Spoonman, PN, Ty Cobb, BUTOW, FOBD, My Wave, Outshined, Rusty Cage, BIMH Thanks, Andy "Remeber everything is just black or burning sun" - C. I know that Seth's site has some, but not the one's I want. If you can recommend a site with good bass tabs for SG songs that would be real cool. The most important song I need is Never Named. BTW this is for a friend of mine, so don't flood me w/ things about the bass, I don't understand you. So much luv, take care and all that jazz........ I just got my catalogue today, and theres some stuff you definatly want to check out. Here's the short list: DotU Double Gatefold vinyl - 15.00 A really cool Ultramega-era poster of Chris and Kim in action- 15.00 Postcards (have to be orded all together) one of them is Hiro and Kim, in the middle of Circle of Power (I assume)- 8.00 The Hype box set (one single has Dig it a Hole and Nothing to Say on purple marbled vinyl)- 20.00 (it's four singles) Sub Pop 200 (just resently re-issued CD in a black box)- 13.00 Screaming Life (the book, which contains some really good old and some new pictures of our boys) -35.00 Well, that's it.
