All right, I'm getting sick of all of the shit that the non-Chris members of Soundgarden are getting. The way I see it, they would not have been anything if it weren't for Matt's unbelievable drumming, Kim's mind-blowing solos, and Ben's bass popping out of a song every here and there, plus his song writing capabilities. I mean, what would JCP be without Matt on the drum line? Or think of how many songs have been made by Kim's guitar solo? Or even the cool little base part on Pretty Noose? Don't get me wrong, this is DEFINITELY not an anti-Chris post, I just think that nobody is giving the other members of the band enough credit. They were (err....are) 4 equal parts, not Chris and his backup band. ~Matt P.S.- I made a fork necklace and will be wearing it to school soon!!! yay!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Sep 1997 08:33:47 -0400 From: Natalie De Rojas Subject: Back to our Regularly Scheduled Program! You people! Just get over it! No one member of soundgarden is better than the other,...they are or were a band, and this is a list about THE BAND and their music! Can we just get off this fucking topic about chris being god and matt and ben being sidekicks!...now back to our regularly scheduled program... This is NOT a flame, and I sincerely hope that it won't be taken that way. Buy I have a real problem with this part of Dena's post. Namely, the crack about Justin's posts not being appreciated. I think that Justin is absolutely brilliant. I've never personally corresponded with him, but I always look forward to the insights and wisdom that he tosses our way. Why do you think that his posts fall on deaf ears? Are we all suppose to post our kudos to the List after he posts a review? Do you really want to read 500 well-wishes? Alot of times I don't do so because Nikki says exactly what I would have said anyway. :) What do you mean about "what we say being discussed by people we like?" Do you only want to be on the List with old members? Do you want the List to stagnate? This List is both a community and a family (I've read that Seth disagrees with this, but that's how I feel). With any family, everyone will not get along all the time. They certainly don't in my family!! But we're all here because we love SG. We work through our differences and move on. With each new person that joins the List, there is a new viewpoint to be shared. I don't always enjoy every post, but at least the List is kept dynamic. Dena's post was very depressing, and I'm sorry you're feeling this way. But I still enjoy the List, and I think lots of people probably still do. We just need to get through the rough spots and ALL look forward to hearing the new music that all 4 of the guys are going to bless is with. :) Life Rules! (Yes, we all know that, but I thought >I'd remind you). I guess reading the personal opinion of someone who >k>nows nothing and is far removed from any personal information just >pisses me off. Maybe that's just me. =) As far as Ben instigating the breakup...who knows for sure? The rest of the band probably doesn't even know for sure. But if someday Chris were to turn around and say that Ben did it, I would not be shocked. As opposed to being told that Matt was responsible. It has to do with the persona that Ben projected. I saw them in concert several times and frankly, I always thought Ben came across as nasty, childish, and assinine. Now I know that several list members have had the benefit of meeting him and find him to be a nice guy. I'm sure you're right. But the majority of us have not had that opportunity and are therefore left to form our conclusions based on other more ostensible evidence. Many people think his onstage persona is some kind of punk cool. I guess everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. But don't be upset if most people find it easy to believe that he was responsible for the breakup. You reap what you sow, after all. Also, I don't put too much stock in "Official Statements" to the contrary. After all, if your brother/sister/mother/father was causing problems in your family that threatened to, or resulted in, its demise, and outsiders noticed and asked you about it, what would you be most likely to do. You would most probably deny it. As far as him being replaceable. Well, being a Beatles fanatic I've had to live with this in the form of "Ringo was useless. Ringo was a poor drummer. They would have been even better with a better drummer." I'm biased on the subject. I couldn't imagine them without him. But if I reign in my subjectivity and open up my objectivity, I would probably have to agree that he wasn't that great. To me Ben was the most replaceable member. Sorry. As far as him just leaving if he was the cause....Well, he may have been the straw that broke the camels back. There may have been greater underlieing problems tha he exposed. I don't know. Its all speculation. I guess I'm just saying that just because SG says it isn't so, doesn't mean I have to believe them. Who can you believe? you might ask. Well, thats the sad truth isn't it. You really can't believe anyone when it comes to stuff like this. The right thing to do would be to form no opinion about it, but most people find that impossible to do. As humans we need to assign a reason to everything.
