Seth has said quite a bit about the historical efforts to bring the text of the ave maria into a musical form, and that it appears that Chris Cornell is trying to either duplicate a past attempt or create an entirely new version. But what exactly do we know about this production? Isn't it entirely plausable that this song is just called Ave Maria because it is a well known title, and has some connection with the point of the song? Maybe the song is anti-religious in some way. Or maybe it looks at religion in a different way and that title is an illustration. It has been mentioned that Chris attended Catholic school. Could this song be satire about that environment? My understanding is that Cornell is not religious. I don't think that excludes him from appreciating art devoted to christianity. But don't we need more information before concluding that he is undergoing a momentous historical task? I'm in such deep suspense about this. I took a full month to get access to the net in my dorm room over here (Laval Univesity)... damn, a month is an eternity on the net! i just read past digests... cool threads... Thanx to Morbid, i got a chance to hear a song called Blind Dogs (off the bball diaries soundtrack)... well, it cracked my top 5 favorite sg songs... I've been listening to it for the past 3 weeks and i can't stop... i really love that song... makes me eager to here the cornell solo project... meanwhile, at least we'll get Mr. Cantrells solo album in a few weeks... can'T wait for that too to all who were kindly keeping an eye out for a Singles movie poster for me : you can stop! After a 3 1/2 year search, i finally found one... thanx for those who looked out for one... it's appreciated... Now i've heard that sg will be putting out a best hits with no new releases... As stupid as this may sound, i think i'm gonna buy it... but at the same time, i don't wanna... major headache... Like steven said, i'd buy a video compilation on the spot... i dunno, i still got time to think about it... on heavy rotation: Blind dogs... Mind Riot a close 2nd followed by Overfloater... later sommsters... I must say that I think that should Soundgarden ever decide to reunite (whether in five years or 25 years) it would be a fantastic idea if. . .it was done on THEIR OWN TERMS. It may be silly to even speculate (but it IS fun), but if they all agreed that it was something that they would want to do, then full steam ahead! I just kinda like to think "soundharden" has been put on hold. Come on if Jane's Addiction could get back together im sure soundgarden can. but its all up to them. Guess who Soundgarden's influencing musically these days..... ~*~*~*~*~*~ [from German newspaper "Taz"] taz: "My Body the Hand Grenade" is a kind of look back at the early Courtney. What's changed? Courtney Love: For one thing, I've recently been listening very intensely to Brian Wilson and Fleetwood Mac, the Beatles, Jane's Addiction and the early Soundgarden era, which was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. ~*~*~*~*~ She went on to say in vivid detail (far too long to quote) how they've taught her how to write "prettier" melodies and how listening to them has enhanced her guitar playing ****AND**** Hole's even got Michael Beinhorn to produce their new album...intresting....intresting....intresting. well, at least I thought it was. ~rita ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 1997 15:56:49 -0700 From: John Scully Subject: Re: that damn christmas album!
