Yeah, they just screwed up when they wrote the liner notes. (I have this cd too). I suspect the bozos who wrote the credits out, since it was a transitional song, just credited the bass player they *knew*. It's not the first time I've seen this kind of mistake on a compilation. There are interviews where Chris talks about the writing and recording of it. Ben wrote it and Ben played it. (Apparently the main riff was something he just launched into during one of their first jam sessions together when he joined). Listen to it, too. It's not Hiro's playing style. It's very "Ben". SWITCH OPENS i dn't know, i used to like it, but now it just gets on my nerves. there's a whole shitload of songs off of ltl that i'm not going to even go into about disliking. don't get me wrong i like all these songs, but there are just certain factors that you can never undterstand. Here are some other SG tracks that I skip on ye old CD player: Ty Cobb Power Trip (I have better songs to listen to) Smokestack Lightning (been known to happen) Outshined (I think Outshined's guitar is really lacking) Show Me and then unless I have the whole day to do nothing I usually skip Dusty, Zero Chance, and Rhinosaur. I think DOTU gets way better at track 6. (I do like Pretty Noose a lot though) In my little rankings of SG songs, Never the Machine is #2 and BIMH is #3 and Overfloater and Bootcamp are also in the top 10 (of course Beyond the Wheel is numero uno). Some songs that I like that other people said they didn't: FOPP (DUB) I find it pretty entertaining Never Named - its on my upbeat compilation because its not very serious OOOPS! Time to turn the stereo down. It just knocked my soda over.... ok, I think its all cleaned up. This one is for any St. Louis SOMMSters ('cause I know some people don't like to say where they are from). The Vintage Vinyl on Delmar got in another shipment of Soundgarden and they have some more copies of BIMH part 1 and Pretty Noose. Not to mention that they are getting a bunch of used SG cds in (cause they broke up?) so run and get Ultramega or LTL or Badmotorfinger for $8. I think most of you missed a part of a message (i cant remember who wrote it) talking bout personal interpretations of the song. I think it's a very interesting thing. One my favourites band here is 'Heroes del silencio'. Some people hate them because their lyrics are pretty dark and hard to understand, but i love it. I've spent many hours talking with my friends about that lyrics, what they meant to them, etc. It's incredible when you realize how much you learn, not only for the band, but you learn more about you, your friends and, what's more important, other's points of view. So, knowing that SG lyrics really mean important things, why dont we talk about them? This thread could include explanations for entire songs, questions, doubts, etc. And i'll start the thread with a question. I think i understand 'Slaves and bulldozers' (please correct me if i dont): It talks about a boy who's gonna break up whith his girlfriend, because she just played with him and his feelings, using him. I think i understand it cause i was in that situation time ago and i felt every word in that song like mine :-(, yeah, depressing. But the question is: - What the hell does the title has to do with the rest of the song? Maybe it seems a stupid question, but i like to understand everything in the songs, and i cant imagine what the title mean. If you most of you think this isn't interesting, and there's somebody interested in this thing, please email me cause this point is very important to me. Has anyone been to Seth's site to check out the Miscellaneous Multimedia? If so, have you downloaded the one where Natasha, from Eleven, is interviewing the guys asking them why people called them "Frowngarden" (I already know why..but..)? I did and I thought it was SOOOOOOOO funny!!!!!!!!!!!! If you haven't seen it you've gotta!! She asks and then they go to Matt and Matt's just sitting there, then they go to Kim and he just moves his head a little and makes a sound, then they show Chris and he's got his head down lifting it up a little, and last they show Ben who's leaning on with hand and he looks really really bored and he's like rubbing his eyes like he doesn't know what's going on :) It's soo hilarious, I think. I've gotta know where the original is! So I kinda had a small SG dream last night. It happened about 10 minutes just before I had to get up to get ready for school. That sucks because it could have expanded, but here's what was up: There was talk going around, on the mailing list and in person really, about Chris because he had decided to go to college. And basically everyone was talking about how Chris is now gonna be a college Freshman. Then I woke up. See, pretty short. Didn't kill did it? Nah... So on to my next thing... I posted something here that no one responded to. So I will do it again because this person asked me if anyone responded to it so here goes once more: I read this at the SG newsgroup thingie.. please feel free to respond to this: What is the tie with Chris and Eleven? I know they have been friends a long time... but why did Chris choose them to be his new backup band??? We all should know the tie between Chris, Natasham and Alain, but privately e- mail me witht the rest of it so I can give a response :) Just freely write about it. The not- yet- titled album will feature songs from their Sub Pop and SST albums, as well as their hits on A&M. In addition, the album will include previously unreleased B-side material, according to a spokesperson for the band. Meanwhile, the first project to come from Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell after the band's breakup in April (allstar, April 9) will be a cover of the Catholic hymn "Ave Maria" for the holiday benefit album A Very Special Christmas 3, due Oct. 7 on A&M. He recorded the song with the seminal L.A. band Eleven. Cornell will also contribute "Sunshower" to the Great Expectations soundtrack, which also features Tori Amos, Scott Weiland, Pulp, and others. A release date for his solo debut album on A&M has not been set yet. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 1997 21:09:05 -0500 From: "John D." And just when I thought that last post I sent was the end of the Soundgarden day I had yesterday.. Well, think again... after that post, I just had more and more of a Soundgarden day which eventually led into today!!! Whoa! And I must thank Seasons, Birth Ritual, and my best friend. So after that post I go check out Seth's site and found some kewl stuff and then I went into a SG chat room which was pretty kewl also. I am still listening to Seasons and Birth Ritual while all of this going on.. then I start listening to it in my bed and I started looking up where my new SG poster is, on my ceiling... Seasons is playing and then it happens... This rush tears flow.. and I don't mean like tears started rolling down my face, I meant that I just started bursting into millions of tears as if I just found out one of my parents got hurt of something. Birth Ritual started playing and I was stilll crying... then I stoppped and I started to think of soo many things, like this mailing list and little things that I read in articles and stuff I noticed, etc.. So I started thinking about these posts about Chris singing Ave Maria, even though I already posted my feelings on it twice, but I still think it's a pretty damn good idea that he's gonna do it.. I know that some people aren't too keen on Chris doing it, but that's just silly because we are all gonna buy it anyway so just accepted.. It's no biggie anyway. I mean sure it's a new turn for Chris, but hey, so were a lot of things.. like all of a sudden becoming this sex god. That got me to look around my room at the pictures I had up of the band and as I looked at them, I got a new feeling about them.. I hated them. It's weird, but I remember reading an article that night at Seth's and I read how Chris got tired of that shit.. that Sex God stuff... and I noticed some of my pics of Chris and I compared them to one another and I hated the ones with his shirt off with his flowing gorgeous tresses and him doin' some ego-preppy pose.. like that one with his arms crossed across his whole chest.. I put that one in the center of my wall kinda and I thought to myself last night that that is the Chris Cornell I don't like to see anymore.. It's a beautiful picture, yes, but he looks so much more involved with a shirt on. And then I started comparing the band pictures.. they all are kinda interesting to me. Of course Chris is in the front and I was trying to figure out who's the tallest of them by looking at the pics.. The older ones had it look as if Chris was taller than the rest.. I noticed in that SG poster with Chris in dead center with Ben to the right, kim on the left and Matt in the back and it's kinda black and greyish.. that Chris would kinda be the tall one because he's in the front and you can see him "more", but Ben is way taller.. Ben's knees were bent but he is still very tall.. Next would be Kim I believe and then Matt and then Chris.. I think.. There's this one pic were Chris just looks extremely shorter, and they were all in a row, no one more out or more back.. so.. Matt in his pics are quite interesting to me too.. In the pics of him with short hair, Matt looks short. In the pics of Matt with long hair or with a baseball cap on, backwards, he looks very tall and quite handsome :)~ I love my TDITTL poster! It's the one on my ceiling.. I noticed how in one of the band pics back then, Kim looked all "Mr. Casual", Ben was peering into it.. he might have been bending into the picture looking as if, "I'm here, Here I am... take the pic.." and he'd look real nice. Matt would be "Mr. Toughguy Supermodel" in a way.. Matt's pics are very model-like, not to criticize him, but to compliment him because he looks real attractive, seductive, mysterious, and sexy. Then Chris is sitting straight in dead center, shirt off, long tresses with a look on his face as if he just didn't belonged or as if this shoot didn't seem right or as if it was his first time doing it. Notice how in some of Matt's pics, he's got this certain look in his eyes? He does this thing with his eyes and his eyebrows and his mouth/cheeks.. He's got a nice chiseled face and well... I'll leave it at that. So anyways... I go to sleep... and then I wake up again at 4:00 a.m. for some bullshitting reason, I dunno.. after I drink some water, i lay back down and play Seasons and Birth Ritual again and fall back asleep with the radio on.. I then had this SG scary dream. It wasn't really a nightmare, but here it is.. First I'll have to explain something I read in order for you to get on aspect of my dream. I read an interview at Seth's and Chris was saying how the original cover of I think DOTUS or something was this neon, lime greenish, hot pinkish mix and blend and it looked all funky, but the people wouldn't let them use it or something because it wasn't "Soundgarden" or something.. so here's my little thingie from this morning when I took a second "sleep" (probably more of a two hour nap): Ozzy or some great sluggy singer was singing this slow morbid song. It was like as if I was apart of a music video. And it sounds freaky and it's dark and stuff and this guy is singing and playing guitar heavily and it's a scary atmosphere that I was in. Then I see this white door ahead of me and there is smoke coming out of it with this hot pinkish beam of light coming from the bottom and this lime neon green glowing from the side of the door where the knob was. The musician, Ozzy or whomever, was still scaring me with the music (it was like this background music of a movie but it was like a music video...anyways) and the white door opens a little and the neon green glows even more brightly. I step closer to it, but I'm still far away from the door and then it just keeps opening and opening slowly and slowly and this guy is "sliding" out of the doorway and it's Chris. He's got short hair and he's dressed dark, but he's got thie neon green color glowing all around him. There is a closeup of his face in my dream and he is visible to me and it's kinda like "Whoa, it's Chris" and then you're about to go shake his hand, but before I could even get a little smile on my face, Chris looks at me and stares at me with this HORRIBLE expression on his face. One of those creepy expressions that I hate and that make me feel bad and afraid or whatever.. It was the worse feeling!! Then he kept on staring at me like that and started "sliding" back into the door opening and then the door slowly closed and shut and locked. Evidently I was on the "bad" side.. Chris was on the side to freedom, but those are dreams.. After that I believe there is more singing and I might have just actually fallen into a deep sleep without images.. Then I woke up at 6-ish and took a shower. While in the shower I had Seasons in my head and Birth Ritual and my new SG shirt my friend bought me and the post and the mailing list and pictures and interviews and then I saw this "dirty" Chris in my head.. I shuddered and realized, "HEY!!! I just had my second Soundgarden dream!! Kewl!!" Not exactly as kewl as the first one, but oh, well.. I just hope I'll NEVER dream of that again!!! I listened to Seasons and Birth Ritual before I went to school and my day was OUTSTANDING with some great grades!! :) I'm still listening to them right now.. these songs are stuck in my head forever! And the results are all great :)~ I watched Singles and the music vids I had recorded on my "Soundgarden Tape" and that was kewl. So, I'll try not to bore you guys anymore with my little stories, but before I go, I need to ask all you smart SOMMSters, wait.. all SOMMSters are smart, what the hell am I thinking??? I meant to say, I need to ask all my kewl SOMMS friends to help me out with some info I can't recall, because I go music shopping every week and I need to look for some things so here goes: 1) What are the names of ALL the videos (home) that Soundgarden are on? I know of the movies, etc, but just list them all anyway so that I can make it a huge checklist. 2) What albums are SG featured on that aren't their OWN albums? This would include their imports, bootlegs, compilations (Greenpeace or something, Hype!, Jimi Hendrix...) 3) What albums are the members INDIVIDUALLY featured on? This would include Hater, Wellwater, Flyin' Traps, Prodigy's cd, etc... And tell me where I could find these bands. .like which albums... Again, please just name all that you can think of even if you think I should know them because I want to make a checklist and so just write them all down and please e-mail me privately about them. I know it's quite a bit to ask but I'll love ya more if you just helped me. Don't forget all the projects the guys did back in the day when things just started :)~ Ok, I think that's all for now. I hope to hear from ya soon :)~ Kick Ass!! -Bunchypants ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 9 Sep 1997 to 10 Sep 1997 ***********************************************
