I thought i'd just make a couple of _enthralling_ comments on SG-related dreams. Yep, as ashamed as I am to say it ...I am only a recent fan. But a fan nevertheless. The whole reason I am the obsessed 'fan' I am, is because of a dream I had. [Okay, I think this is where I explain the dream...] But let me first just say that I hadn't really ever heard of Soundgarden [its a small, and very daggy town I live in], and if I had, it wasn't a word that I would have made a distinction from the rest of the bands I had heard of [mhmm, I _am_ cringing]. So the dream went like so: I was driving along in my car, [yet I don't have a license] and had to stop at the traffic lights, and I heard this voice saying 'aren't you the one that was with JOHN HOLMES [don't ask]'. I presumed it was some smirky little shit of a kid, so I just mumbled a weak comeback, and then suddenly this really stretchy long arm [presumedly coming from the car behind me -now you see why it had to be long and stretchy ...the hand I mean] reached in my window and shook hand with me! And then the face belonging to the mysterious rubber hand was in front of me [remember this is a dream] and it was ...Chris Cornell! [ta daaaa!] I don't know how i recognised him, I must have seen him before. So he said 'Hi, I'm Chris Cornell from SOUNDGARDEN', and weirdly enough I reply with all this nervous '...Oh, I LOVE your work, I LOVE your stuff...'. And then I woke up. So, that was interesting. And that was what got me into Soundgarden. Just one more thing. My other dream: On the Eve of April 8, 1997. I had a really weird dream about Soundgarden coming to my city, and something about my mother giving me the $300 I needed to be able to see them live because 'it was the last chance I would ever have to see them' [I really didn't understand this part]. End of dream. Then, the next morning, I went home [I had been staying over at a friends house] and the first thing I did was check the page for any updates [practically the first thing I do everyday] and there it was. The one band that I loved soooo much was no more. I don't know what made me dream this, because I [strangely enough] hadn't done anything to do with SG that day. Well, yeah. These are the two only dreams I have ever had about Soundgarden. Weird eh? Well, maybe not. But for me it is. Just thought I'd put in my 'two pennys worth'. Lily. Omigod!!! what a loooong post! sorry bout that. I tend to get a bit overexcited when it comes to all things Soundgarden. -------------------------------------------------------------------- '...There must be something else, there must be something good...' -------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 17:44:26 +0900 From: fluttergirl Subject: The bearded being turns [turned -scuse the tardiness] 37! Oh yeah! And a Happy Birthday to you KIM!!! Yer guitar LEGENDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! [i can't believe I forgot to say it] May many many good happenings flow yer way. Lily. ------------------------------------------ '...A million miles of covered ground...' ------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Sep 1997 12:19:15 +0100 From: Deborah Baker Subject: My birthday present to me on Kim's birthday A few weeks ago someone mentioned they had heard about a new Soundgarden interview disc due to be released...well, last night I found it! Although there's no cover information, it's an interview with Matt and Jason, seemingly with a deejay from WNYU in New York, right before the CMJ conference in '89. (So why have a band picture including Ben? Duh!) Amidst the usual interview stuff - comparisons to Led Zep, moving from an indie label to a major, why did Hiro leave blah blah, there are some amusing comments and anecdotes from Matt. His Kiss cover band was called KISS (with imitation is very small letters on their posters), which is why they got a stern letter from Kiss' management. He said he had a great time, 13 years old and playing sold out high school gymnasiums three times a month. He also played weddings in a cover band for a $100 dollars a time, plus free food and champagne. Mostly soft jazz and then Chuck Berry when everyone hit the dance floor. Matt joked that now they were on a major label it was only two guys to a room on tour. Chris and Kim "are kind of married in their own unique way " so they always share. He and Jason were at the "courting stage" and practicing safe sex :-) Factual stuff..it's called Soundgarden Interview. It's from the Interview Collection BAKTABAK Recordings London - number CBAK4109. "Available now from all good record shops." I found mine at the HMV store in Bond Street, London - it was 7.99 sterling and the only copy in amongst the regular Soundgarden records. Not a major discovery, but a very pleasant and unexpected one, especially on Kim's birthday. As I understand it...Shroom is currently recovering from a family vacation in hell. Geek Girl is gracing the Emerald City with a timely visit which has included Bumbershoot and Hater, plus indulging in other summer time activities us Pacific Northwesterners like to call fun! And Caryn is continuing to see such bands as the WWC, among others, all the while maintaining a job, which isn't fun this time of year. WE MISS YOU ALL!!!! It takes contributions that the above three have been known to and looked to for such posts, not to mention your very own Lance. We need these kinds of people/posts to make this list a worthwhile place for information and friendly intelligent exchanges of Soundgarden news and ideas. So don't be shy, Lance!!!!! For one, phone lines have been cut in my area and I haven't been able to get online. Two, other pressing personal business has prevented me from taking the time to do a review justice and three, I know mine won't be as comprehensive and worthwhile as to what I feel others in attendance could provide. I don't even know the set list or songs they played. But YES!!, I was in attendance for the entire show, although I did cut it close again... They were in excellent form! Ben is too damn funny these days, he struts and saunters around and dances wildly and crouches down to the floor and hobbles across the stage. He is *quite* the performer. All the while, Matt is doing what he does best and playing the drums with many exchanges between Matt and Ben and Matt's facial features, eyes rolling what's this? what are you doing? Funny laughs, they all seemed quite happy in my eyes. and I was most happy to be witnessing it all. Brian Wood replaced Ben for about three to four songs on lead vocals, he seemed equally exuberant in his mood. It was a great night in Seattle folks! After the show (without an encore) Matt came out to people gathered at the right of the stage for autographs and photos. I didn't see or hear much, for I was catching up with Thuggy since I haven't seen him in MONTHS!. But I did hear something between him and Dena on the SOMMS hat; that he'd given one to Chris and Ben, but they didn't wear them. I asked him when WWC would play again and he thought soon, in October at the OK. I was actually disappointed that it would be son long until I realized it was already September!! He must've thought I was a bit off at that moment...:)). It was totally great. We went to the OK after and McBain showed up and then Ben. I talked to him some. He didn't remember some things which I thought we pretty much fact and his take on that was, "Well, there are a lot of people out there who will say a lot of things about some one in my position." True, I don't argue that fact, but I was around for a couple things, so I was slightly put off by that comment. He most likely didn't hear all that I said. Brian Wood was there too. I talked to him some when he was sitting with me and an employee of the OK. It was pretty funny, he had an extremely negative attitude for the subject matter she was talking about....love. But all in all, it was a stupendously great night for me to have seen all of the Hater set which I thought was excellent, and to have had some fun with friends at the OK and had some friendly exchanges with Ben and Brian. Can't wait for Wellwater and whatever other Hater shows are on their way. Matt did say they were playing mostly new stuff, which if most of us have been at the last few shows, are probably sick of already. Oh, and another comment. I guess McBain said something about a show or something and Matt said he didn't know about that, he'd have to kick his ass! *Very* cute and said in jest, lest anyone take that in the wrong way. All in good clean fun! More later if I can think of it, since this all came spur of the moment. And I can't speak to why anyone else hasn't submitted a review. Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron. so then we went to this store called genereation records, which is pretty good, but i don't like it cuz i never have any lootz to buy the bootlegs, and i feel dumb for that. but whatever. so i find "alive in the superunknown" for 12 bucks! (their used cd collection is pretty reasonable) and my buddy ashley bought it for me cuz she promised it as a birfday present. so then we were lookin through the vinyls that they have there, and they never have any sg, but i looked anyway. ashley got happy cuz she found a red hot chilli peppers record, i was like that does me no justice, where are my boys! but just as i was about to bitch out loud, what do i find? tdittl limited edition etched vinyl for 8 bucks! now i don't care if it's valuable or what, but it looks nice and it has the words "one more time around, might do it" etched into it around it, and i can never find sg vinyls, so i bought it to prove to myself if i look hard enuf, i can find shit. so i got my boys and a meat puppets cd for two bucks and it all made my day! i needed some good shit in my life. and my friend, jamie, did manage to sell some of her cds, what a lucky day!!!
