Kim Thayil threw the first pitch! I was just sitting down and I heard "Kim Thayil" over the PA. I looked up and there he was! I had really good seats and he was practically right in front of me! I was so shocked. I kept saying to my aunt, "it's him!" It was kinda funny cause I was wearing one of my Soundgarden shirts and I hoped he would glance my way, but no luck there. That's ok though, he looked really happy. =) Then on the diamond-vision (the big screen) they were going through the birthday list of people in the crowd and once it flashed across the screen "Happy Birthday Kim Thayil from Roxanne," whoever Roxanne is. It was cool. ~Katie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 19:22:05 +1300 From: Stuart Appleby Subject: Re: I sent my money...got no shirt Carol C. wrote: > > I sent my money, got no shirt > I sent my money, got no shirt, oh yea > > Is it stuck in a brown truck crashed out in the desert? > Nikki, my darlin, where is my shirt??? > Geek Girl, oh where are youuuuuuuuuu > > Carol =] well, i just got my shirt today! and i must say that it's the funkiest thing i ever did see. and i live all the way down here. i don't know what happened to you. from graham:) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 04:36:27 -0500 From: tonerkin Subject: Re: Kim at the Mariner's game At 12:22 AM 9/4/97 -0700, Kathie wrote: >Hey everyone, I just got back from the Mariner's game and guess what... >Kim Thayil threw the first pitch! he looked really happy. =) Why shouldn't he be happy? He has the honor of throwing out a first ball for one of his fave teams,(how is his arm, Kathie? did he make it all the way to the plate? or did he throw like a Hansen Brother???) it's his b-day and he's at a place where people bring full trays of beer right to your seat. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass when you're trying to make a good cassett for your walkman. It's probably to prevent people from pressing that 'shuffle'-button, you all know how much SG put into the succession of the songs. Found a sigle I didn't have before today, Black Hole Sun (why didn't I buy this one before?) Too bad I allready have the B-side songs on it (LS acustic + KS live), oh well... I miss Kim! Woe is me! :) I thought this was interesting. I was looking at my Screaming Life book last night and I was looking at the pics of SG playing at Berkeley Square in '89 and there's a pic of Chris onstage doing his Chris onstage thing. :) You guys know the Chris thing. Anyway, there's a paper onstage and I never really paid that much attention to it until last night. It's the setlist for the show!! So I was I doing my best to read it when I came to the next to the last song. It said Toybox!!! Oh man!!! Can you imagine what it would have been like to be there and hear SG do Toybox live!!! Today I found the 7" vinyl BlackHoleSun/Spoonman and on the back it says promo etc... Is this a rare pressing does anyone know? Also the other day I found this red vinyl called "Another Pyrrhic Victory", released by C/Z records. It doesn't have Soundgarden on it, but it has cool Seattle bands that broke up b/n 85 and 89 on it, including Malfunkshun. I listened to the Alice in Chains song "right turn" that Chris does the backup vocals on. It is a really mad song, I would definitely recommend it. I especialy like the bits where Chris wails: "..somebody tricked you...". Check it out on the Jar Of Flies/Sap album. I also listened to the Truly album "Fast Stories...From Kid Coma". It is not bad either. Is there a new Hater album coming out soon??? Let's hope so, hehe. Also, I've got another couple of tour posters now. One is from the Superunkown tour in '94, its got all these weird animal pictures like in the cd booklet all over it, and on the sides its got all the tour dates and places etc. At the top in a strange font is written Soundgarden, and at the bottom in the same font but smaller writing is written You Am I, 11 (in a circle), and Reverand H(N?)orton Heat. The other poster is from the Australian tour, and I must admit it is fairly plain, but it is a *huge* poster. That's all for now. Happy birthday to the big man himself (Kim)! I just had to correct this incase any SOMMSter decided to run out and get this track. Its off Alice In Chains SAP. Jar of Flies is another EP entirely. Its still cool with rotten apple and whale and wasp but Chris only appears on SAP. Other ramblings: Did you people see the MTV awards? At first I thought Dave Grohl was playing the KIMSTER'S S-100 (happy b-day) but he wasn't. It was a white Epiphone SG that had a custom 3rd pickup added. You never see anyone with the almighty's guitar. Guild has the coolest headstocks (tied with Jackson). My suggestion for the week. Play boots on your car stereo. Even shitty ones sound great. Besides funny things can happen (like this morning) as I get in my car to go to hell... I mean hell... er... school the first words I hear are "fuck, already drinking a beer" and I have a new quote but it still doesn't quite express my anger. Well, it's happened again, I had another dream involving Soundgarden. And i have Graham Appleby to blame it on, as we were talking on the phone and he mentioned something about that post where Kim (happy b'day) threw the first pitch etc. and straight after that I went to bed and had the best dream I've ever had. Here goes: Well I was in my home town, only it wasn't (it's a dream thing) and I walk down the main street somewhere, and see a picture theatre with no advertisements anywhere, and so decide to go in. I walk up a staircase to a theatre and there are quite a few people in there talking and drinking, whilst some movie is going, and sit down, and all of a sudden, Chris Cornell is starting to talk to me! But the weird thing is that he doesn't even look like CC, but I automatically recognise him, and then I spot Matt and Kim, but they look totally different too ie. Kim has ultramega short hair and clean shaven, with different facial features too. Then someone stands up, and starts talking to everyone, and it's then I realise that everybody is a member of SOMMS. So I get up and walk home really excited but can't come to tell anybody, even though I try really hard to. The end. Then the next morning I'm getting ready for school (eating breakfast) and I all of a sudden remember that I've had this dream, and I think to my self, "that was f#$%ing cool", but then I went to school, and that all ended. Have fun everyone! See ya Dave :-) "They say have your own fun Make your own mind And don't make no waves" ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 4 Sep 1997 to 5 Sep 1997 **********************************************
