No way! Soundgarden is like love-- it needs to be shared to continue to have life and meaning. If we just tuck it up to ourselves and mourn its loss, we are doomed to live in the past, licking old wounds and lamenting our "dead" band. I trade like crazy, not just to acquire, but to get good things out to people who haven't seen or heard them. I buy extra copies of things to give people when I can afford to. I talk about them to anybody who will listen (and even to people who won't). I wear my shirts with pride. And I will follow their new pursuits to the ends of the musical earth. There are still things I haven't heard or seen or collected, still things to discover. Sure, I miss them. Terribly. I wish it hadn't ended, but it did. We can't change that. That doesn't mean we have to dwell on misery. Enjoy what you have. Seek what you don't. Look forward to what will come. (And don't forget to add Truly to your list. They are wonderful.) UGH, i really don't care to go back there at all... i'm not finding it to be something i like. the work isn't bad, but just the overall thing. but that's non-SG related, so you don't care anyway... here's an SG relation that goes with the subject of college.... while running through the list of names in the e-mail archive of my school (in which every student who goes there has an e-mail account... blah blah blah) i was looking for my roommates name, which is Cohen, Blake. and you'll never guess what name i accidentally ran across? "Cornell, Christopher." = ) how cute is that? i go to school with a CC. = ) AITS: it's a computer godsend. anyone who doesn't have this... go and get it RIGHT NOW. i finally got a good enough computer to play it on, and DAMN if this thing isn't one of the coolest things i've ever seen. the funnest part is running around looking for weird stuff you guys have talked about so much, esp. that silly little game. they are just so amusing, i love those boys. = ) definately a very cool thing to own, but i still say don't pay $25 for it. i got it for $17 and am glad of it. it's great, it's cool, but it's not worth $25. = ) well, i do believe that that's it for me for this weekend. i leave mid-day monday, which totally sucks because i totally don't want to go back. you can still e-mail me here and i'll get it before then. Members of two popular Seattle bands, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, jumped way out of stereotype with a generous donation to a conservation group. Their $400,000 gift enables the Land Conservancy of Seattle and King County to buy 220 acres of valuable, pristine land near the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area in the Cascade Mountain foothills. The land, much of it timberland and old-growth forest, is home to eagles, mountain lions and elk. The Land Conservancy has been negotiating for three years with a mining company that owns the land. The purchase is crucial because the property is the last privately owned land in the midfork valley of the Snoqualmie River. If the purchased wasn't completed, the acreage probably would have been used for resort or mining purposes. Soundgarden broke up a few months ago, but members of that group and Pearl Jam, along with a few friends and associates, wanted to do something to preserve the environment close to home. Bravo. This is exactly what young people who make large sums of money should do: give something lasting and meaningful back to their community. The whole episode makes everyone feel good and is indeed sweet music. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- (from: http://www/seatimes. com/topstories/browse/html97/jammed_082697) i just figured i'd post the whole article again because Dagny didn't have time. = ) enjoy! mind riot ____ there must be something else there must be something good far away...far away from here... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 21:14:37 -0400 From: Lyndsay Smith Subject: SG ON THE RADIO Some people(including me) have been complaining about how Soundgarden doesn't get enough playing time on the radio & stuff like that. Well, I had a good moment or two hearing them on the radio in the past few weeks. It's really startling sometimes because I'll want a SG song ot be played when I turn on the radio after having it off or listening to a cd, or I kind of guess that one will come on. Sometimes when I turn on the radio BIMH or FOBD or another song will come on. Just yesterday I was in the car with my friends and we're listening to the pop station and I think to myself "What if BIMH comes on? Because a lot of times when I'm in the car with those same people it comes on". WE change the station and it comes on. I got almost hysterical I was so happy. Then later that night We're int he car again going somewhere else and FOBD comes on. It made me so happy. It was like my lucky day. Doesn't it make you just so happy when Soundgarden comes ont he radio? I love it. I just thought I'd share that with you. Also I just remembered something that happened to me when they broke up that kind of meant something to me. My mom e-mailed my cousin and when she e-mailed my mom back she said that there must be some mourning going on with the breakup of Soundgarden. Then I discovered that there was another fan in my family which made me happy because I didn't think anyone in my family were really interested in Soundgarden. I always find it really sensational when I meet someone that likes Soundgarden. I've become a member but I don't know where you go to chat about SG. I know to go to VENUES but what's the room called? I went to one called ROOM A THOUSAND YEARS WIDE but no one was in there. I don't know if anyone actually goes there, but I recall soemone who first posted about Firefly mentioned something about ROOM A THOUSAND YEARS WIDE or something like that I think. Can whoever first posted about that please help. I know some other people were asking about this too. And if that's the right room or we find out that that's the right room we should plan on being int here around the same time so more than one person can be in there at once, and we'll have someone else to talk to. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS IF YOU CAN. They've also been kinda promoting Foreshocks, saying stuff like "You've got to check out this CD if youre a fan of the Seattle Sound". The radio station has also been playing Girl You Want. IMHO, the re-done version with brian may really does not do the song well at all. i think the vocals aren't near as stellar (not that one should expect vocals like that all the time), i don't like the overdubbed solo, and the song itself just seems thin and weak in a whole lot of parts. it was very disappointing when i finally heard it. if i had my choice, i'd listen to the BMF version until my CD was burnt up on track 12. = ) mind riot ____ there must be something else there must be something good far away...far away from here... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 30 Aug 1997 to 31 Aug 1997 ************************************************
