The other three had left the stage and Kim was trying to give = us a little more entertainment. He took what I think was a beer can and = placed it on the strings of the guitar and moved it along the length of = the guitar a little at a time. I think this caused the sound of the = feedback to change. This happened for about three minutes and he left. I was wondering does anyone know exactly what he did or has anyone seen = this before at other shows. However, there is no distributor here in Australia, so it is unavailable. I was wondering if one of you kind sommsters would get me a copy and send it to me. Of course I would pay all costs, and a bit extra for your trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated. At the Roseland show that i went to, Chris did dosmething like this. At the end of the show, when there was a shitload of feedbak, he stuck the mike-stand in between his guitar and the strings on it and slid the thing guitar along the mike stand a few times, it made the weirdest noise. Then he just threw it up about 15 ffeet in the air and turned away as it crashed on stage. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 14:30:53 +0000 From: Kathie and David Subject: Greatest Hits? Please, no... Vince quoted from an article: > Sources say one or more members of the now defunct > band are pushing for A&M to release a "B-sides" album, I was really glad to read this. After reading all these posts about a Greatest Hits compilation I was wondering how the band felt about that. Personally I hate "Greatest Hits" done by any band. I don't know, it just seems so, oh, tawdry. Makes me think of all these *old* bands who get together for reunion tours, looking ridicuous. A&M was obviously pretty put out by the break up. At least if a run-of-the-mill "Greatest Hits" record comes out, "FEATURING: BLACK HOLE SUN", we will know that our beloved guys were coerced into releasing it by the record company. I for one will be very disappointed if that happens. > Die-hard > Soundgarden fans can be assured that, no matter what form the > compilation takes, it will most likely include material not available > on previous albums, according to Wiggins ... Hmmm, wonder what that means. Maybe they'll stick in a "live" recording of Black Hole Sun. I know they *owe* the record company, but this sucks. Is Chris' work for the movies, etc. efforts to fulfill the contract? I doubt anyone on the list knows, except for the A&M execs who sneak = peeks, but I thought I would ask anyway. toodles, Anna __________________________________________________________________________= _____ A&M was obviously pretty put out by the break up. Though you know what, yeah, Soundgarden isn't a band anymore, but they're still out there, get into Hater and Wellwater Conspiracy, and make sure you check out Chris's new solo album. Just because they've broken up doesn't mean Soundgarden is dead. We should also feel extremely lucky that Soundgarden has put out as much material as they did. 6 albums, numerous b-sides, and some side projects, that's more than most bands put out in the long run. Then there's live versions with boots, and aucoustic versions (Like Suicide, BHS). Be happy that Soundgarden made as much great music as they did, and look forward to what they'll be putting out in the future as individuals. It's a Chris solo and the song is very pretty and it appears to be a cover song. Can anybody name that tune??? We'd like to know!!!!> In response to your quest for the title of the last song on the BDO boot from Perth (now WHY don't I have a copy of this???), I cannot really comment because I don't have it, but I was there, and the set list follows, as per my review of the big day: >The set opened with (surprise, surprise) Spoonman, which sounded pretty good. They then kicked into SWMGEC, which was, unfortunately, not great. There just didn't seem to be any spark happening there, which was hardly surprising, because of the heat. Then came Let Me Drown and Pretty Noose, which were Okay, then My Wave, which wasn't good. Ty Cobb was next, and it was from here that things started firing up a bit! Chris did BHS solo next, and, unfortunately, opened with the line "Lets put this one to bed", which is I recall what he has said at previous shows (according to some of the fantastic reviews sent by other Aussies). Other than that, BHS was the highlight - it was performed perfectly, sounding incredible in the still, hot evening. Outshined next, Rusty Cage (really good), BUTOW (fantastic), Search and Destroy (great), and finally, Slaves and Bulldozers, which was incredible. > ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 09:14:29 +0800 From: Georgia Kennedy Subject: and the other Perth show... I went to the SG show at the Challenge Stadium in Perth in Feb this year. A few words (again!) from my review of the show: >The show ended in a massive feedback session, with Chris just screaming into the mic for what seemed like ages, Ben threw his bass a couple of feet, reeled around, and stalked off the stage, and Kim had what looked like an incredible passionate encounter with his amp for at least five minutes. He then left his guitar sitting on top, lit a smoke & had a few puffs, and scraped the strings now and then with his beer bottle (I think it was beer, ok, I presume it was beer).> I heard something somewhere (magazine? radio interview?) from that tour where Kim said how much he enjoyed Crown Lagers, and in retrospect, I'm sure the bottle in question can safely be identified as being a glistening gold foil top of a Crownie. georgia At 18:22 29/08/97 +1000, you wrote: >Hey > >I have a fairly vivid memory of the Soundgarden performance at the Sydney Big Day Out this year (the set list is not so clear though). > >Anyway, at the end of the last encore of Jesus Christ Pose, Kim took his guitar, still ringing with feedback and placed it on top of the wall of speakers. NOT EVEN 6MONTHS. On october 9 it will be only 6. I cant believe it. It was a walk though (and was worth it!). I wanted to buy a huge SG poster.. and I did!!! I know some of you have this one, but I bought the "The Day I Tried to Live" one.. the pic that's on the CD book also.. They also had the Superunknown poster and that one of Chris with his arms crossed and his shirt off with the long hair... I thought they had more. but when they do... heheh.. I'm gonna get them!! And for a high school freshman that's 14... i don't get money :( And for this whole week my 'rents have been giving me a few dollars to use to buy drinks (not beer and stuff) for school or extra snacks in the vending machines in school.. well, they though i was using that money... but no. i was saving it for today :) So i walked back home with this poster with my friend that came along and I had the trouble of figuring where the hell i will put it because there is NO room in my room.. so she suggested to put in on the ceiling.. i tried it and i love it!! It's over my bed and since it's not the ceiling and there's the whole gravity thing.. the middle kinda falls out a little and it looks like the guys are closer to ya! kinda like that whole 3-d thing!! And i love it!!!!!!!!! Well... later!
