Well, from this day forward I promise never to whinge about Australia not being 'Soundgarden(er) friendly'... I just got back from the city (Melbourne) with Outshined/Cold Bitch cd single. Thus I heard Cold Bitch for the first time a few minutes ago, it is a great song. Chris's voice goes real high in some parts. Also bought the cd 'Fast Stories...from Kid Coma' by Truly, because I've noticed some of you guys talking about it (with Hiro). Well, it was secondhand and only A$12. I haven't listened to it yet. Last thing, I picked up the 'Scooby Snacks' single by 'Fun Loving Criminals' too. It has about 5 different versions of the song on it. Which one has Soundgarden in it, does anyone know? I haven't listened to it yet so it might be just plain obvious. Or maybe that rumor isn't even true and Soundgarden aren't on it at all. Oh well, it was only A$4, so it will make a cool frisbee otherwise. Hehe. When does the new 'Hater' album come out, if there is one? Also, does anyone have the 'Tonedogs' cd 'Ankety Low Day'? What is that like? I can't find it anywhere, probably because it is so old I guess... See ya guys! From Cronky. P.S. Whoops one more thing... On my travels I found (but did not buy) from 1989 on C/Z records a red vinyl called 'Another Pyrrhic Victory'. It doesn't have Soundgarden on it, but it has Green River, Malfunkshun + a few other bands that broke up b/n 1985 and 1989. Just wondering, is this a rare vinyl, should I go back tomorrow and grab it while it is still there? Any info appreciated... I have a feeling about it that's all. ---------------------------------------------- - Simon Cronk (Cronky) - - E-mail: scronk@ecr.mu.oz.au - - http://www.ecr.mu.oz.au/~scronk/ - - SOUNDGARDEN & POWDERFINGER - - RULE FOREVER - ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 10:12:57 +0100 From: Deborah Baker Subject: Re: New Chris Cornell music news >Former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell's first solo material since the >band's breakup will be a version of "Ave Maria" recorded with members of >the Seattle band Eleven. I always thought that SG fans were much cleverer that any other fans in the world... I'll explain. I don't know how the thing works in the states, but here nobody (and I mean _NOBODY_) knows SG, cos they don't have lots of marketing stuff, they don't sell t-shirts everywhere and you'll never listen to them in "Los 40 principales" (the typical i'll-play-you-you-pay-me radio station). So that meant we were that kind of people listening to music just because we like it, and we feel things when somebody called Chris is talking about the same feelings all we got. And for me, there's nothing more to talk about music. That's all - simply, sounds and feelings. So I never care about artists' haircuts, cool tshirts, etc. Why am i talkin' bout this? Cos i think limited editions are just part of the game that i don't like to play. Just because it's ard to find something, doesn't mean have to be wonderful (although, talking about SG, it's probably wonderful). Isn't the way you find what makes something valuable - it's the thing 'per se'. Please, let's try to be smarter than "spice people". Thanx for your reading. Bye. They played... 1. Outshined 2. Slaves and Bulldosers 3. Room a 1000 Years Wide 4. Big Dumb Sex 5. Jesus Christ Pose 6. Searching with My Good Eye Closed It was sooooooooooo AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I taped it on two tapes just in case on didn't pick up everything :) Since yesterday was a school night (today was my first day of high school), my dad didn't want me to stay up to listen for the concert.. but hey, it's Soundgarden! I HAD to!!!! So I did!!! I lipped along quietly to some of the words! It was the closest thing I have ever gotten to as for a SG concert, bootleg, etc. goes :) and I'm very estatic still!!! It started of a little drabby (NOT in a bad way) because I could tell Chris was tired and since it was a recording... it was a part of the actually concert and they had to "edit those special lyrics"... By the middle part of Outshined or the ending, Chris sounded extremely great.. not that he didn't in the first place :) but I guess what I'm trying to say is that Chris sounded more powerful then.. then with Slaves and Bulldosers... It was incredible!! Especially the way the guitaring was done.. They did something different with it that I'm not sure how to describe because I don't know technical terms, if there is one for what they did.. It was really powerful! He really got into the song and at the end he sang it very very slow and that was kewl :) The drumming, not just on that song, but overall, was just... I dunno how to describe it!! It was INCREDIBLE (lacking stronger words here:) !!!!!! Matt was just very... I dunno, he just pounded it heart out on those things! I loved every second of it!!!! To add to great playing... Ben.... ohmigod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bass playing was just.......just..ooh!!!!!!! And quote me on that, "Ben's bass playing was.. ooh!!!" I just adored it!!! With RA1000YW, Chris vocals got extremely strong! He was hitting those notes REAL good.. and he also does so in other songs they played and I will mention it when they come... They were playing a lot from Badmotorfinger so I thought that it could possibly be the Badmotorfinger Tour or something, but they play a few greats from Louder Than Love (!!!!!!!!!!) and, yes, I am loving this! I was kinda hoping they would play Hands All Over, but they didn't :( I wanted to hear Chris' vocals on that song! But guess what they did play????? Guess.. Ok, I'll tell ya!!! BIG DUMB SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMIGOD!!!!!!!!! That sounded SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STELLAR!!!! Chris' vocals were just way up there.. He hit every note, but I was kinda wondering what they radio would do with that song since you can't sing, "Fuck" on the air.. but Chris didn't even sing that part, so... but towards the end (like the ending verses) instead of singing, "I'm gonna fuck, fuck, fuck......" ,he sang, "I'm gonna do that dirty little thing to you". I thought that was kewl! This is a great thing to hear while I was supposedly sleeping.. so I was instead in bed listening to SG through my stereo!! Heheh... Then they played JCP and he said that he wanted it to dedicate it to the biggest fan of Rock-n-roll (or something along those lines greatly) to Jesus Christ.. and then they played the song... OH LORD!!!!!!!!!!! Chris' vocals were the max!!! They absolutely rocked my world!!! He quickly got adjusted to the tone of his vocals and he hit all those notes pretty damn good! I loved it soooo much! I had fun lipping this song in bed :) I'm still wondering how the hell this guy can hit those notes! Well, my theory is that, along with Chris, SG are men that come from a secret planet or something :) Just kidding, actually they are just years of hard work and talent put to good use: to entertain and to make themselves happy :) But anyway, then they played SWMGEC and at first I thought it was maybe Hands All Over, but then it started to become more and more clear and it sounded like SWMGEC.. and they didn't included to farm noises, etc.. but who cares? It still kicked ass!!! That was a kick ass piece they played for it's last song of the night.. and it was very very very long... which totally rocked my world! Near they end Chris says, "Matt Cameron" and that's all.. maybe Matt did something physical... Then he started singing, "Jesus is my friend" over and over and over again and then he added, "I don't give a... (radio edit) if nobody likes me" and then Kim did this totally weird psychelic twisted thing on his guitar that I have absolutely NO CLUE how to describe.. Now that's a speechless monent. Boy is that a great thing to end your summer with... a Soundgarden concert.. and now my vacation's over and I am a Freshman.. yay... (Note: High School is boring.. and I haven't even seen the seniors, juniors, or sophmores yet! They come in tomorrow.. maybe things will be better afterwards....) So, overall... Chris was just very very very very very very very.... uh, what's the word... um.... I dunno, but he was just sooooooooooooo......... GREAT!!!! And I mean great in a very strong way since I know no words.. And Kim was highly..............uh....(here we go again) KEWL!!!!!! (I dunno what to say :) and, oh, Ben! He was just... just... just.... just AMAZING!!!!!!! OH my!!! Oh!!! And Matt!!! Oh, God, he was sooooooooooooo MEAT POUNDING!!!!!! (I dunno) Oh, yeah, Ben is so... ooh!!!! I forgot... that I said that :) WOW!!!!! That was such a... Soundgarden is a very very VERY sensual orgasm!! I loved it!!!!!! Quote me on that too, " Soundgarden is a very very VERY sensual orgasm!" heheh!!! They totally made me stoked!! And I think that for the first time in YEARS... (I'm not ashamed to say this) I wet my bed.. Because Soundgarden totally just got to me I loved it!! (Actually I did NOT wet my bed so don't start that rumor :) hehe) Later SOMMSters :) Kick Ass like Soundgarden did and does :) -Maria ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 19:00:56 -0400 From: Maria Joseph Subject: Re: New Chris Cornell music news I would love Chris to sing Ave Maria because... well... he'd be singing my name :) Oh, well, just a thought :) Kick It!!! -Maria ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 18:39:54 -0500 From: Betty Anne Redson Subject: Re: Ben and Matt in new band Igor Nepomnyashchiy wrote: > > I just heard on 92.3 Krock that Ben and Matt are in a band called "____Water > Conspiracy", and they're opening for Mudhoney at The Crocodile Lounge > sometime soon. The instrumental percussion record also features Stephen Perkins from Porno for Pyros, Tim Herb Alexander from Primus, Josh Freese of the Vandals, and J. Mascis, the guitarist from Dinosaur Jr. who started out as a drummer. A Very Special Christmas 3 (A&M, 7 Oct 1997) Chris Cornell's rendition of "Ave Maria," backed by Eleven. This is bound to be interesting, since he's following in the footsteps of people like Franz Schubert. At any rate, this will be the first we hear from Mr. Cornell since the breakup. Lounge-A-Palooza (Hollywood, 7 Oct 1997) Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme's lounge cover of "Black Hole Sun," with Steve on the verse and the duet on the chorus. This is weird, weird stuff - certainly not like I would have ever expected to hear BHS (but then again, I never expected to hear Cibo Matto or the Moog Cookbook or Weird Al Yankovic do it either). Great Expectations (Atlantic, Dec 1997?) Chris Cornell's "Sunshower," backed by Eleven. The title is certainly acoustic-sounding enough. The movie is scheduled for release on December 31; there is no definite date set for the soundtrack itself, which will also feature new songs from Pulp, the Verve Pipe, Tori Amos, Poe and Scott Weiland.
