I'm talking about when Hiro was a member of Soundgarden. A couple of weeks ago, I realised that I didn't know that much about Hiro's contribution to SG. Sure, you notice him on Little Joe, you know he sings Circle of Power and that his girlfriend wrote I Awake. Well, after listening a while, I've found that he really meant a lot more than I thought to the sound of those early days. He gave them a darker, kinda gothic sound. Often he played the main melody, but sometimes he broke from it and created beautiful little pearls between the dark riffs. Any comments? Oh, and if you were wondering, he's even better now (me thinks of Truly). Wow, they just played JCP (just the music though, they even cut out the lyrical parts) on MTV Europe!! During a newsflash of the Kerrang!-awards. First time I've ever heard it on tv, radio, whatever. Just thought I'd share... I haven't been on for awhile because I was restricted until I finished my summer English assignment.. and I finished.. My report on Soundgarden New Metal Crown is very very long and I hope to get an A.. So I will recap everything that happened while I was gone... Thursday--- Rhinosaur was played on DC 101 and 98 Rock. A guy won DOTUS from DC 101 and the announcer said that he was lucky because it might be a collectors item now that Soundgarden was gone... hmmm.. Friday--- I had my first SG dream: I was in a store with my dad and Matt was the cashier and Chris was the bag dude and Chris asked who I was and Matt looked at me and smiled and said, "That's Maria".. Chris was like who is Maria? And Matt said, She's a SOMMSter.. respect her... Then I woke up because my friend called me on the phone.. TDITTL was on 98 rock.. Saturday---- was watching Seattle/NY game and people were listening to their radios and announcer said that they were probably listening to Pearl Jam because it was Seattle then he mentioned Seattle grunge... School starts tomorrow! Yay.. And btw.. I'm hearing A LOT of Pearl Jam and Megadeth and Ozzy on the Radio.. ALSO... if you are able to get 98 Rock Baltimore station you'll love this because at around 11:30 there will be a Bush and Soundgarden concert footage playing... I think Bush will be first but listen arounf 11:30.. Later!! -Maria ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Aug 1997 16:30:57 -0400 From: Rachel Potter Subject: meeting people and talking about soundgarden yesterday i took a 4 hour drug and alcohol class to get my permit... and there were 7 people in the class. This is from the latest issue of Rolling Stone (with Neve Campbell on the cover): Former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell's first solo material since the band's breakup will be a version of "Ave Maria" recorded with members of the Seattle band Eleven. The song will appear on the benefit CD "A Very Special Christmas 3", out on October 7th. The singer also appears on the soundtrack for the December 30 film Great Expectations. Cornell's acoustic "Sunshower" is joined by new songs from Pulp, the Verve Pipe, Tori Amos, Poe, and Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland. -vince ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 24 Aug 1997 to 25 Aug 1997 ************************************************
