The room has been dubbed Room 1000 Years Wide and ANYONE is welcome! Also just a note--Firefly has been trying to upgrade the look and workings of the system so from time to time things are really screwed up. It was yesterday. All you can do is bear with it, b/c when it works it's a pretty smooth system. Just remember, it's free chat, all you need to do is register a screen name and password. All you need is a browser, you don't need aol or compuserve or anything else. Since I've found there's free chat available on the net, I've scrapped the idea of even trying aol! If anyone else joins, please drop me or raine a note w/ your name! deb ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 15:18:52 -0400 From: Deborah Servey Subject: Cameron news! "Album traps drum highlights"
Years ago, the only time fans went to the restroom at a rock concert was during the drum solo. Now Hollywood Records has announced its plans to release "Flyin' Traps," a collection of songs highlighting 17 modern rock drummers. "I'm a big fan of the drum records that Sandy Nelson and Hal Blaine made during the 50's and 60's," says Redd Kross drummer Brian Reitzell, who developed the project. "(This record) is actually about songs, but with a spotlight on the drums." The record features diverse performances from folks such as Chris Vrenna (NIN), Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Tim Alexander (Primus, Laundry) and Dale Crover (Melvins), as well as former SOUNDGARDEN skinsman MATT CAMERON teaming up with Taz Bentley(Tenderloin, Rev H.Heat) on "Theme from Wrong Holy-O." Mudhoney's drink 'n drim expert Dan Peters deleivers a way cool version of the Kinks' "Do You Remember walter?" The album is set for release on September 23. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 15:33:33 -0500 From: Richard E Horner Subject: Some interview stuff that I thought was interesting Hey, I was looking for SG haters on the web so I could mail them nasty letters and I found this interview with Bruce Kulick of KISS. This line was funny about Chris Cornell. BHKULICK: No make-up was ever considered for me, but Chris Cornell from Soundgarden said I should be a ..... BADGER!! I just had to share. I found this next bit from the Eric Singer AOL chat transcript: FaithKeepr: Who else, in current music, do you consider to be great (or very good) rock drummers? >ga ERIC TRAPS: Sean Kinney from Alice in Chains, great feel! Matt Cameron, Soundgarden, Vinnie Paul, Pantera. Jimmy Chamberlain, ex-Pumpkins. ga Ok, I'm not a Kiss fan or an Everclear fan but here is a snipit from an everclear interview: Craig ...stuff like Iron Maiden and stuff like that and then I moved on to other stuff like... Art ...Stryper... Craig ...Metallica, Stryper yeah,... Art ...Soundgarden... Craig ...yeah, that was a big influence, Soundgarden. Here is another clip form that interview that was rather comical, watch Art's response: Craig I met Kim Thayre from Soundgarden. That was a big deal for me. He totally just spit on me basically. I felt like I was 11 years old, "Hey, how're you doing? I'm a big fan, here's a t-shirt." He's like, "Do you have it in a different size? If you have a different size, I'll wear it." You'll need this size with that big ass ego of yours. Art He needs an XL. OK, he doesn't even know Kim's name, no wonder Kim hated him. And here is a funny Kim qoute from Guitar School May 94 "I can still go grocery shopping without being asked for autographs," Hey, the exact same thing happens to me. Actually, I can do about anything without being asked for an autograph (does the police asking for your finger prints count?) Thats enough for now. I have great news!! I just found a guy at a market who has unauthorised CDs. Of course I picked up a few for myself. I got: Soundgarden- Stingray- live at the san jose event center on 6/3/94 Alice in Chains- Swarm- live in osaka Japan 2/23/94 Here is a list of what they had of Soundgarden: Stingray 6/3/94 $35AUS ($25US) Louder than live 1990 $30AUS ($22US) Lollapalooza 1992 $25AUS ($18US) Somewhere 1992 $30AUS ($22US) And a couple of others I can't remember. If anyone wants me to run down and get one for them, I would be happy to. As long as you pay all costs. They also had Swarm by AIC for $25AUS ($18US). They also had these CD singles: Fell on Black Days 5 tracks $14AUS ($10US) Pretty noose promo $16AUS PRETTY noose 4 track + interview $6 AUS They also had cool posters. I got one of them. It has the day I Tried to live on it. They are all standing around with Chris in front. Also, they had the louder than live video for $30 AUS. Wow what a day I've had!!!! But there's still more!!! I found this book called "Screaming Life" for $20 AUS or about $15 US (reduced from $35). So I bought it. It is about the Seattle music scene. There are about 15-20 photos of Soundgarden in there including (you'll never guess!!!!!!!) A PHOTO OF KIM THAYIL WITH NO BEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can hardly recognise him. That photo is worth the price of the whole book!!! Even better, it came with a CD!!!! Here is the setlist of the CD: Green River- Ain't nothing to do Mudhoney - No one has Nirvana - Negative creep Tad - ritual device Soundgarden - Entering Screaming Trees - Flashes Beat Happening -midninght a go go Seaweed - Selfish Fastbacks - What's it like It is released on Sup Pop. I reckon it's pretty rare because it has printed on the CD "this CD compiled exclusively for inclusion with Screaming life : A chronicle of the Seattle music Scene". Also on the book, there is a sticker that says "Not available anywhere else". I don't know what that means though. gain, I would be happy to get it for anyone that wants it. Well, if any of you want any info on anything I got, or want me to go down and get you something, let me know. Power child's post got me thinking. Putting rare songs won't really affect the "value" or bragging rights attached to rare/limitied edition/special packaging releases. Even if they put girl u want on the A&M release, I will still search the world over for SOMMS. Also, as an owner of From the Mouth of Decadence, I think I'm obligated to get the originals on CD if I see them. I'd like to give the band a chance to make some bucks off the music I love. Is there something uncool about that? Well, if there is I don't care. Furthermore, how does denying other people access to soundgarden's music make you a good fan? If A&M is going to consider what SOMMS subscribers want, and we all say that it should be mainstream songs only, and they listen to us, then we are responsible for limiting access to some of the best music ever made. Does this sound right to you? I want to stand up and be counted as someone who wants to see some rare songs become available to the general public. If anyone thinks I'm *lazy*: you go ahead and think that. Ad hominem attacks don't hold water on planet Tiffany. Thanks for listening.
