Then the comment was made that the band will have to > get together again because all of them will run out of money and they need to > pay the bills. not that I know how well off the boys are, but I really doubt that any of them will "run out of money". These are pretty smart guys who have probably surrounded themselves with best financial advisors to ensure that they never do end up broke and living in a van. > Personally I would hate to see SG get back together just because they need > money. I don't think a band that called it quits at the semi-height of their success was ever in it for the money. Obviously one thing motivated them, the music. bye. rita hb ls ;) get it? get it??? They are the real fans. > >This is for the SOMMsters!" as he > >started singing the acoustic BHS. toni And from Jamie: > Reading your quote from that wonderful night in Chicago put a smile on my > face and gave me memories of the best weekend with new SOMMs friends. I do > believe we screamed and jumped up and down through the whole song - the > SOMMsters were located all over the concert hall that night, but when Chris > called out our name we all manage to find each other. For a few seconds > there were no others at the show just "Real Fans" - - - the > SOMMSTERS!!!!!! Ooooh...that brought back my own recollection of this moment and my memory... I was standing on the left side of the stage when Chris started this quote...my ears perked up and then Erin (Haley) ran to me and grabbed my arm and yelled into my ear, "This is for *you*!!" I about passed out! I jumped up and down with Erin for a moment, before she was off again taking pics. I continued jumping up and down and wanted to grab my own friend to scream to...but I was alone there. I mean...not alone, alone...but I didn't have anyone to scream at or grab onto while I jumped up and down in that pure joy I was feeling. I was ecstatic and could only imagine how everyone else was receiving this moment out there in the balcony of the Aragon. God, that was truly a moment that will be forever locked in time for me...I was in total awe, absolutely dumbstruck at his words and extremely proud to be there and to be part of the sommster group. Thanks...again and again... ($16.99 w/ no tax, due to me being in Delaware today. score! = ) but the BIG (?) news is this... the girl that rang me up was an SG fan too, so we were talking about the band and how hard it is to find their stuff. well, i mentioned something about hoping for a greatest hits at least (just in speculation, of course) and she started running through her computer to see what SG was up to. so she gets this list, it has all the albums and what not, AITS, and this thing labeled "interview." confused, i asked her what that was. she didn't know, so she clicked on it to get more info. turns out (as the excitement builds!!!) that this is that interview disc mentioned by some sommster a long while ago. Release date: 01/01/98. = ) this really got me excited, so i started shooting questions at her, and it turns out that when a date says 01/01/year it means they're not sure when the release date is, but it will be released and they will have it. AUGH! a new freaking CD! = ) this i am excited about. and it's not on A&M, it's on some label i've never heard of and can't remember. started with a D... oh well, figured y'all would like to know. = ) mind riot ____ there must be something else there must be something good far away...far away from here... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 16:36:00 -0500 From: "Phelan, Kate" Subject: Re: radio listening > Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 00:44:17 -0400 > From: Dan Carbo > Subject: radio listening > > Personally I would hate to see SG get back together just because they need > money. What do you think? > I already deleted the post that had it, so I'm working from my miserable memory, but did you all read the article from the Seattle Times via someone's post (Vik? Bonnie?) re: the recent purchase of land, made by all of the members of SG, as well as some of Pearl Jam? A parcel of land that cost them $400,000, JUST so they could keep it as natural land, keep it out of the hands of developers? I don't think they have squandered any of the money that they have earned in their years of making music. Sure, they've purchased some pricey cars/cycles, etc, but I seriously doubt that they haven't already secured their futures financially. {Everybody needs to reward themselves once in a while, why not with a kick-ass Harley?} BTW, when I read about their noble deed I felt such pride and joy, I was almost in tears. Larry Reid --- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 14:33:00 PDT From: power child Subject: CD-Rs i would be very, very careful on this list about talking openly about making your own soundgarden cd's. the digests are on the webpage for anyone to see. from reading old digests, i see that the list already suspects that people from the media read the list, and there have been people from a&m reading the list, and it wouldn't be too hard for silver management to read the list -- which they probably do, because they have been so kind to this list in the past. once you make one really good cd-r, even if you think you are just making it for "us", a *real* bootlegger (and there have been some on this list) can take it to a factory and run off a few thousand, which they then sell. it's the equivalent of handing them a master tape. (sure, you can say the same thing about DAT, and that's a big issue in the DAT taper community -- a clone is a digital master after all -- but that's not what we're talking about here.) i am sure that silver management knows that we trade live tapes. i am equally sure that they know that we all already own multiple copies of all the official stuff that is out there. i'd bet they didnt love the idea of the b-sides compilation, but it was clearly a labor of love done by fans for fans, and it was done on analogue cassette. big whoop. if it bothered them we would have heard already. cd is another issue entirely. and if silver chooses to turn a blind eye to it, i doubt a&m, who will certainly be looking to make as much money from soundgarden's legacy as possible -- after all, it is their business -- will be so generous. all you have to do is open a newspaper to see that the music business is cracking down *hard* on bootleg cd's. don't get me wrong -- i hope to get a cd-r myself someday, which i will use to make copies of... live bootleg cds :) what are they gonna do, sue me? but i sure as hell am not gonna talk about it in public. i'll do it for people i actually know and trust, not an open offer on a public mailing list. that said, i think it would be an excellent thing for a&m to include those really hard to find sg rarities on the greatest hits comp. yeah, i'm a collector, and yeah, i've spent a ton of money on sg rarities. so what. i looooove collecting stuff, and putting it in all one place on one cd for everyone is a great thing, especially now that prices have gone through the roof on sg collectibles since the band's unfortunate demise. everyone who wants to should be able to hear the music. ~the power child ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 20:14:44 -0400 From: Leia Rose Subject: Soundgarden & Pearl Jam Save Trees Hey, I just seen something on MTV about members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam = contributing money to save some wildlife land.
