I am getting one very soon at a computer show at the end of this year, maybe November. When I get it for about $300, I'll need disks. Ten dollars a piece! What a rip! Anyways, I don't have a lot of SG stuff that is rare. Only some singles, a few vinyl, and compilations and soundtracks. Would anybody be interested in doing some type of you send me something rare, I put it on the CD and then give it back to you? I know what you are thinking right now. Is he crazy, I'm not sending him my mint condition 7" version of whatever that has for b-sides. I promise you that I would keep it in top condition. I could make a cd set of just rarities (however many cds it takes up is fine). I would then let you the people of SOMMS, buy it at the cost of making it and shipping it. It would be my very first bootleg and would be the cheapest one you'll ever buy on CD. Probably around 15 dollars. I would really like this because everyone would contribut to it and I could have all the stuff I hadn't heard on my own Digital Compact Disc. I think this could work. All I need is your guys' help to make it happen. Anyone interested in this? Think, you would have all the songs you wanted on these cds. Very impresive I think. Say that it's a five cd set, we could addd rare live songs too, you pay 15 dollars a cd. That's only 75 dollars including shipping and handling for five cds. WOW! Please, if anyone would like to help, contact the You Make Me Sick, I Make Bootlegs company by e-mailing me. Are we talking about remixes, > overs, and live performances, etc., and/or LP releases and previously over the course of their career, soundgarden had the irritating habit of recycling their b-sides. you might have noticed that a couple of old favourites like 'birth ritual' seemed to pop up more times than once. the band often asked why they should be expected to record non-album tracks, considering that most of their records played for over an hour. I know that if I told kim they should have released more varied b-sides he would probably tell me to fuck off. I was always frustrated by the band's lack of interest in recording non-album material, in light of the fact that all four members of the band could write songs, and it seems wrong that all the music we *didn't* hear probably won't ever be heard, at least not under that magical soundgarden banner. I'm trying hard not to sound like an ass. Although i do know some record stores just go crazy on their prices (i.e. the one selling SL on black for $65. AUGH!) but i am proud to say i have never been suckered into buying a vinyl for more than $30. The LTLive on blue, i wanted it really badly.. but i was just not going to buy it for the $40 or $45 they were selling it for... nope. so i passed on it, and it sold before i got back down there. The most expensive vinyl i've ever bought was the $30 for the RATYW grape, and the $30 for the Fopp 12". If the price is above $30, i usually get a bad feeling about it.. . like, there's something wrong with it maybe and because it's so old, they'll charge more for it anyway just cause. i don't know. i do believe i am rambling... but i think my whole point was, the thrill i get from collecting records is a great one, as long as the price is right. i am no sucker. = ) mind riot ____ there must be something else there must be something good far away...far away from here... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 1997 13:07:21 -0400 From: Maria Joseph Subject: PISSED OFF AT MTV AND M2 BROADCAST!!!!!!!!!! Hey, SOMMSters... As you can tell by the subject, something happened. And yes!!! I can't believe it! Ok, last night (around 2:30) I had my tv on MTV and I was taping M2 just in case some great metal vids came on. Well, around 2:30 a.m. I was getting sleepy so I began to close my eyes and I listened to the tv.. Then, Matt Pigfield came on and I turned it up a little and he started mentioning that early in the broadcast that night they had played some Big Bands that weren't aired much and he named NIN and the Chillies.. so then I sat up hoping to hear about SG.. then he says that now they have a vid from Soundgarden called Hands All Over.. and he speaks about that a little and then he starts talking about Chris for about 2 minutes and how he's gonna be on the Great Expectations soundtrack and to look out for it soon.. So then he ends it off, like, so now here's Hands All Over. a great vid.. from a great band, Soundgarden.. Then I have the tv up very loud (sorry neighbors) and I see this girl near a fence and the drumming starts and I think to myself, "I don't remember SG making a remix of that song..." So then the caption comes on and it MEGADETH!! I was pissed!! So I calmed down and thought, "Ok, well usually they either will play it second or last" So after that Megadeth vid they played ANOTHER megadeth vid!!!! What a tease!!! And they STILL didn't play that vid!! So I waited through a half hour of 2 back 2 back Megadeth's, a Sex Pistols, Jamiroquai, STP (vaseline:), Sammy Hagar, and Shakespear Sister.. and they DID NOT PLAY HANDS ALL OVER!!!!!! Not only that... I realized that he didn't play NIN or the Chillies b-4 that!!! The whole broadcast was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a tease!!! I was soooooooooooooooo pissed!!!! Don't get me wrong.. I love STP and Megadeth, but if you say your gonna play SG and talk about them for awhile, you sure as hell better play it!! Well, at least MTV is responding with the Metal part.. they dedicated a whole half hour to play Metal songs! Wow. But they didn't play SG.. what should we do SOMMSters? I don't want that to happen again.. MTV and M2 owes us.. big time!! Jen Grover >> To keep them in production as long as there is sufficient interest would kind of kill the whole point of limited edition wouldn't it? I realize there are some assholes out there (esspecially used dealers) that take the "i got something you don't, if you want it I'll jack the price" mentallity and yes it is childish, but to generallize like that is wrong. Speaking for myself (and I'm sure many of you other SOMMSters out there feel the same way) I would love for every one to get to hear these wonderful, rare little snippettes of SG's "distorted vision" (that's a compliment by the way) and as I have said before I have made many many copies of these songs for people I know and all I have ever charged is for a tape (unless one is sent) and the postage to send it back. When I find something sure I want everyone to know it, but I don't hold it over their heads and tease them like you tease a dog with a bone. As far as the sex thing goes...yea it is kewl too be able to have it all the time, but if you had to wait it only makes it that much sweeter when you do have it...the same thing goes for these rareities. Sure it's the same mentallity as bootlegging, but the powers that be could decide to take all that away from everyone and then where would you be. Be thankful somebody makes bootlegs, it is a great risk...sneaking in the recording device to the show, missing most of the show cause your worrying about getting caught, and selling them is the biggest risk of all...a lot of bootleg companies get busted by the FBI cause it's illegal, hence the $35+ price tag. Be thankful for what does exist and don't hate it cause you can't find it or don't have the cash...it will always exist and there will always be someone kind enough to copy it for you for just the change you can find in your car seat. A couple of people have posted about doing chat. I just last month found a free chat site--there's actually quite a few if you do a search for it--and I like it so I'm going to plug it! It's called Firefly, the url is www.firefly.com, it's totally free, all you need to do is register, and all that is is giving them the screen name you want and a password! Think of the possibilities there, my creative listers! You get to create your own member page that tells about you and your interests. Seems to be a bit of a natural b/c it's sort of entertainment based, music and movies is what they tout as interests you can discuss. Anyway, there's a portion called "Venues" and in venues people have created pages touting an interest that others can join AND you can then create chat rooms. I think it would be brilliant if a number of us met there regularly and had a chat room with, obviously, a very Sgarden influenced name. You can also post messages and just sit and exchange messages if you like. The venues can be public or private....well, it's hard to explain, but I like it and think it might be the answer to no one ever being in #somms! Any takers on this idea? It's on 24 hours a day, nothing special is needed beyond a browser, it's easy to register....... To anyone who does go on, I'm Riker20. I remember when Oasis was on a while ago and it was the end and Matt goes "were gonna leave you with Wonderwall" or some other Oasis vid and then they played some other band. But HERE is the STORY of last night. Us Megadeth fans are PISSED. Dave Mustaine was supposed to host and hour of videos. Where was he? So then Matt comes on and says "that was the Chili Peppers" even though they just played Seal and then says the thing about Hands All Over which never happened. So although it was dissapointing not to see hands all over, they played 2 of the 3 non-banned Megadeth videos. "anarchy in the UK" (yeah the Sex Pistol's cover) and "Trust" (the new single which is kinda mediocre, CW just sucks). And since that moment I became the main (and I think the only) SG fan in Spain. I've got all the six SG "official" CD's (including Screeaming Life/Fopp), and I bought them in travel to the US! You know, it's really hard to get other things here - I mean it's _impossible_. I'll try to explain it in a different way. Do you know "Lagartija Nick"? Sure not. Do you know "Dover"? No. Do you know "Heroes del Silencio?" Maybe no. If you SG music, I'm sure you'll like their music too - but you can`t enjoy them because you can`t buy their CDs. Do you understand me now? There are very few single releases, practically no vinyl and you only have to read the Billboard chart to see the type of music marketed here. In fact, the best place to buy music is in Europe. However, I still strive to find every Soundgarden release I can, and other than my albums, almost all of them are either English, German or Austrailian. It would defeat the whole concept of collecting records if everything was released in mass-quantity, or always so easily obtainable. The feeling of finding something of immense worth or rarity is comparable to nothing else. It isn't about where you live, it's about what you're willing to do to get what you want. Jamie. Tonight though I turn on the tv to hear something rather familiar..I caught the tail end of the Hands All Over video and stared, shocked: I never hear Soundgarden, let alone EARLY (well, early in terms of what kind of airplay they get, I never hear anything older than Badmotorfinger on the radio and even that's rare) Soundgarden on the radio or see them on MTV and I've been out of practice as a hardcore SG fan so I was quite in shock. I guess they confused the Megadeth video with the SG video and when I turned on my TV tonight I was supposed to catch Megadeth but instead caught Soundgarden. Oh well, pretty cool. Sorry this was such a lame submission to the list but it's all I got :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Aug 1997 01:50:54 -0400 From: Robbie Strickland Subject: Re: me?? in charge?!? > be SL/F? hmm and what is RATYW!? hehe you should have seen what RATYW = Room a Thousand Years Wide SL?
