"The next day it was a short run out to Long Island and a show at the Sundance. Chris gargled vinegar and tried to conserve his voice for showtime..." I would type in the rest of the paragraph, but that was an interesting fact to me.. I didn't know that he'd gargled vinegar.. I wonder how that'd be like.. Here's the next.. (it's a continuation from what was going on in the previous paragraph, so it's taking place at their gig..) "'We came here to have fun tonight, but we don't want no corny devil shit,' Chris told the crowd, which answered him with the two-fingered horns. 'This is what we like, okay?' He gave them the single middle digit. As the audience yelled and responded the band began to play. By the end of the song the club was one giant mosh pit." I thought that was interesting also, a pretty stellar thing... That's all, so now you all can continue doing more important things.. When I went out today (on one of those road trips) I, of course, took my SG and Metallica CD's with me, my portable cd player, four charged up batteries, and the car adaptor just in case.. So when I was ready to hear some SG, I found that my batteries were missing! I was pissed! I know that I put them in my bag and I heard them drop against the hard plasticky material (it wasn't a shopping bag) against my cd's.. but they weren't there.. so I decided not to panic because, me being the smart one, I had my car adaptor thingie with me. So I get it and I find a wire separated from the attachment for the cd! I am sitting in the car wondering how the hell it could've gotten disattached.. I didn't see a place for it to have been ripped, but I did find it... So, with about 30-45 mins left in the car ride, I just sat a read my book from the library (the Hot Zone, suggested by Kirk Hammett :) ) and I was getting car sick! My dad had this crap on the radio playing so I just burried myself in my lap because I was soooo nauseous. When I got home I was still pissed, so I try to find my wires for the stereo so I could hook my cd player to my stereo. I turned on the stereo and BUTOW was playing on DC 101!!! I was very happy! I thought it was like this gift to me since I couldn't play my cd's. And since I live in MD, the DC station would be a little difficult to get (sometimes it is sometimes it's not), but I didn't care, I was just happy the song was on.. So then I changed it to 98 Rock and Stash said that he'd play some SG! I was very pleased, but for some reason I had this feeling that it'd be Rhinosaur.. maybe that's because usually (sometimes that station will play that song) and I was hoping that it wouldn't be. So, SG came on..with Rhinosaur. Dammit!! Dammit!! Dammit!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Rhinosaur, it's just that I don't understand why there are over playing it on the radio, when SG has tons of songs they put out.. I don't ever recalling the band doing something "special" with that song to make it receive so much airplay as it does.. But at least they play SG.. Rhinosaur would also be one of those songs that make me wanna kick some ass.. I like it. So, the stations are progressing a little.. Also, 98 Rock has been playing this Black Sabbath song over and over again.. I've noticed it twice within few days. i forget the name.. I think it's Black Sabbath because it sounds like Ozzy (then again it could be just Ozzy), but it sounds "really old" so I guess that it's B.S. (not bullshit). So, anyway, it turned out to be pretty kewl, but now I just gotta find my batteries. Chris will be celebrating his wedding anniversary soon! I was just watching the Rusty Cage video, and it kind of struck me how similar the action in the video is to the Black Lodge idea in Twin Peaks. Of course the Black Lodge concept didn't originate with David Lynch and Twin Peaks, but he did a pretty good job of bringing it to life for those who are unaware of it. I just noticed how the whole theme of the vid fits with the idea. SG are playing in this white "room" while outside it's dark in a grove of trees. Our guys show up one by one at the cabin like normal guys, but inside they are jamming like the band from hell. At the end the hick in the pick-up busts through the cabin and it's "empty." If you somehow think that lamenting the state of pop music and pointing to the Spice Girls, Hanson, Bush or Billy Corgan as the reason for its downfall makes you sound intelligent, you're wrong. It also doesn't make you a "better" Soundgarden fan; it's enough that you love SG, there's no need to emphasize that by denouncing everything you hear on the radio. I still cannot figure out why so many people seem so upset that radio stations don't play as much Soundgarden as they did in the past. It seems pretty straightforward to me: radio stations attract listeners by playing music that is currently in the charts. Soundgarden's last US single was released in November 1996, *NINE MONTHS AGO*. Therefore their songs are roughly in the same category as those by Nirvana -- played every once in a while for nostalgic reasons, but not nearly as much as when the songs were at the height of their popularity. Hell, if you don't like the radio, there's a really simple solution: don't listen to it. There's a reason that the music retail industry is so huge -- because you can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want. Shut the goddamn radio off, put in a Soundgarden CD and stop complaining. -seth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Aug 1997 15:12:30 -0400 From: Scott Hammer Subject: That One Single You Search The World Over For... ...well mine just arrived one my doorstep today and I am so friggin exstatic I've almost pissed myself a couple of times already! What if you had a chance to have an impact on the content of SG's Greatest Hits compilation, should such a thing exist (and I'm not saying it does or will)? Well, you do. If such a thing were to exist (and I'm not saying it does or will), it would be for the fans, and the management wants to know what you would want on it. No need to stick to a standard tracklist, though if you do please try to give some reason for each song you're including. How about segues between tracks, humorous or not (a la Bill Nye the Science Guy audio or interview segments)? Would you have a retrospective collection starting in 1985 and ending in 1996 or would you do it in reverse? Or would you group the songs in some other way? Would you make the whole compilation a collectible item in some way? Limited edition, limited length of availability, colored vinyl, shaped CD, some kind of special packaging, etc.? Remember, standard CDs hold 75 minutes of audio and the more non- standard packaging you have, the more it's probably going to cost. Go crazy. A couple of things to remember: unreleased songs are pretty much out of the question; there is no vault filled with finished songs just waiting to be exported. Also, I'm sure there is more than one person out there who is offended by the very idea of a greatest hits comp, the idea of mixing songs from so many different atmospheres, the idea of making more money from songs we all already own. Well, consider this: A&M owns the rights to the master tapes, and is legally allowed to release the compilation (should they decide it will exist, and I'm not saying it does or will) with or without any input from the band or anyone else, so this is your chance to make it mean something to fans. -seth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Aug 1997 16:53:23 -0400 From: Nadezhda Ball Subject: Fwd: another good lyric --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: another good lyric Date: 97-08-15 15:50:21 EDT From: Nahedgehog To: somms.@mitvma.mit.edu i keep seeing everyone putting down "the words you say, never seem to live up to the ones inside yer head" but i never see anyone put the coupling to that one, i thought i had seen it so i never wrote it down, but i will now. Well, first off, I'd like to say that I think a compilation would be well worth it, especially if the tracklist was songs that alot of us consider some of SG's best songs, yet never made single status (Beyond the Wheel for example) and never saw any airplay like BHS did. Yes, we already own all the songs that would be released, but in my opinion if somebody buys it who has never heard SG before except for the radio, and hears all these songs that they've never heard before and is inspired to listen to more SG, then it would be worth it. As for my ideas for a compilation, I would like to see the CD booklet filled with pictures of the band, and have the cover of the CD booklet couild have a picture of each member of the band (Chris, Kim, Ben, Matt, Hiro, Jason Everman (?) ) clumped together in a cool way. As for the actual CD, I think it would kick ass if the CD was a black CD with a big white SG 'S' (like the one Seth uses for his 'home' icon on his pages), and have that be it. Tracklist wise I think 2-3 songs from each album would work nicely. Tracks I'd like to see: 1. Hunted Down 2. Nothing To Say 3. Beyond the Wheel 4. Head Injury 5. Ugly Truth 6. Gun 7. Slaves & Bulldozers 8. New Damage 9. Kickstand 10. 4th of July 11. Never the Machine Forever 12. Overfloater Those twelve songs in my opinion are some of the best songs that SG has ever released (not including b-sides), and would do a compilation album justice. Personally, I'd go bananas. Unfortunately, I'd say my compilation would be extremely likely to be different from everybody else's, but here goes. You see, I have a vision! :> I can't restrict myself to one CD (seventy-five or whatever minutes). I reckon at least two CDs and preferably three CDs are what I need. (packaging costs?) Up to a half of the songs should be standard releases. Start right from the beginning - I'd personally put this collection into chronological order (1985-1996), to see how the band has developed over time. Do any recordings of early gigs exist, especially pre 1989? I'm thinking the odd live track should be put on there when a studio recording doesn't exist (but only when!), especially say for either covers of bands or songs that have only ever made bootlegs. Unfortunately, this makes the task of actually making a listing of the tracks I want on the CDs difficult, because I don't know what exists out there. As far as I'm concerned, the live recordings *MUST* be of good quality. Include some dialogue from interviews or gigs between tracks, but keep it short. The studio recordings to be included (by my reckoning) from major releases are as follows - but remember, if live recordings of the song are to be put on the compilation, the studio release shouldn't be there!! Also, I don't think there should be too many from the later albums, and that the list shouldn't necessarily only include singles - although, from A&M perspective, the singles would probably make it all the more marketable, and that's an important element to selling the beast: Screaming Life/FOPP --> * Hunted Down 2:43 * Little Joe 4:31 * Swallow My Pride 2:17 * FOPP 3:37 Ultramega OK --> * Flower 3:29 * All Your Lies 3:51 * Nazi Driver 3:57 Louder Than Love --> * Ugly Truth 5:26 * Hands all Over 6:00 * Full On Kevin's Mom 3:37 * Loud Love 4:57 Badmotorfinger * Rusty Cage 4:26 * Slaves & Bulldozers 6:56 * Jesus Christ Pose 5:51 Superunknown * Let Me Drown 3:52 * Fell On Black Days 4:42 * She Likes Surprises 3:17 Down On The Upside * Pretty Noose 4:12 * Never the Machine Forever 3:36 * Ty Cobb 3:05 By the way, in whatever form (live or studio), the release should finish with Ty Cobb. Note that this list was written very quickly - I'd probably change many of the selections with some thought. Now, in between these live recordings and major studio releases, there must be the rarities that haven't been taken from live recordings. I won't provide a list of these, because I don't have any Soundgarden stuff outside the major releases - hopefully YOU GUYS can write about those. But the whole reason I want these included is because I can't get my hands on these rarities, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!!! As for the aesthetics etc etc, I'd simply have black discs with the SG logo on it. If possible, put small versions of the albums covers on the appropriate CD (ie. the one containing songs from that particular era). People can have their rare versions, but personally, it's the music that's important. Have an early edition (20000-100000 released) if you insist with a third CD that has the rarities only on it. Not too fussed with vinyl either - people can have their particular choices again. I'd be really interested in hearing people's ideas - also, by the by, does anybody have any thoughts on how a mixed live/studio release works ie. does it annoy you or do you like it? (the only reason i'm putting reasons about the songs is cos i'm trying to remember if we had to.. my memory sucks.. but if i'm wrong, don't worry about reading it all..) 1. Hunted Down - it'd be a cool way to start it.. just the intro bit kicks ass.. [oh just a side tip.. if you have SG sounds on your comp, don't use a sample of the BHS intro when you open programs.. really annoying] and it's like.. typical of their early sound 2. Little Joe - it's a bit more mellower (if there's such a word) than hunted down, so if people get a little turned off by that huge bass, they can be "comforted" here.. hehe i guess if they need to be comforted they shouldn't be listening to it anyway hmm? as a fan, i just like this song from seeing it on motorvision 3. Fopp.. hehe i'm dying to make people aware of this song.. 4. All Your Lies - i like the "clipless falling.." part of this.. it's a good example of how they can change their sound like that.. 5. Beyond The Wheel - this song is an experience cos of the range chris's voice does and how the mood of it changes.. deep, and dark and finally up to his scream and it's almost like triumph. maybe anger.. 6. Full On Kevin's Mom - it's funny.. and it's a good song too. one on LTL that i think more people should know about.. 7. Uncovered - i think of this as a hidden jewel. the first time i heard it, i loved it.. and i'm still kind of surprised that it wasn't released as a single. [hmmmm should i put gun in here as well??] 8. Slaves and Bulldozers - the song that made me love soundgarden 9. Girl You Want - a cover song, i thought there should at least be one on the disc.. and i love this.. especially the intro 10. Jesus Christ Pose - cos of Matt's drumming.. hehe 11. Mind Riot - because it's just plain beautiful.. 12. Karaoke - a b side that i'm particularly fond of.. it has a lot of different parts to it, which i like.. like, different tempos and moods 13. Drawing Flies - just another personal fave.. i love the lyrics actually.. 14. Kyle Petty, son of Richard - an angry song which did something to me the first time i heard it.. i would really like to understand what it's about more than i do now.. 15. The Day I Tried to Live - a slower song to follow up the last couple ones.. even the introduction makes me sad.. the whining sound of the guitars.. 16. 4th of July - another kinda deep song.. i like the lyrics and how it almost gets hopeful towards the end of it.. 17. She Likes Surprises - makes me smile, cos of the whole sound.. it's almost not like them.. it's really different compared to all the others on superunknown (too bad it skips on my comp cd player *grumble*) 18. Never Named - i think this should be on it because of the style.. it's great.. really cute.. especially the lyrics 19. Blow Up the Outside World - i think this song is beautiful.. i like BIMH but i didn't really want to put alot of singles on it.. um there's no BUTOW single is there? haha oh shit.. there is.. dammmmmmmn.. oh well.. i don't care i still want it on it.. hehe 20. No Attention - a bite me kind of attitude.. we needed one of those on here.. 21. Boot Camp - i decided to end it with this not because it was the last song on DOTU, but because of the lyrics and the feel of it.. it's a little bit of hope.. "must be something else.. there must be something good" i like it okay.. umm i'd be interested to hear any constructive critiscism anyone has.. but i'd be happy to see a disc like that come out.. and like someone said about the unreleased songs.. what about just one? do they have anymore? cos i don't know if people will buy a cd if they already have all of the songs on it.. anyway.. thanks for listening to my ideas, everyone :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Aug 1997 20:59:19 -0400 From: Paul Sandhu Subject: Soundgarden in High Rotation??? IT HAS A TAPE DECK! I can now blast good music at the puff fanatics on Delmar! About Larry and I taking over the webring. Here is an equation. ME=Freetime OK? Umm, if SG was gonna put a Greatest hits thingy together I would like it chronologically. You would go from the raw sound of Hunted Down to the Ultrarefined sounds of Burden In my Hand. I made my own little Megadeth's greatest hits tape and I did that chronologically and that worked pretty well. As for a track list. This isn't complete but here are some songs that I feel couldn't be left out *it wouldn't be a greatest hits without *Hunted Down (the bands first single) Entering Swallow My Pride *BEYOND THE WHEEL (blasphemy if you don't include the fuckin AWESOMEST SG TRACK EVER!) *Ugly Truth *Jesus Christ Pose New Damage *Superunknown Kickstand 4th of July Like Suicide Exit Stonehenge :) (not really) Burden in my Hand *NEVER THE MACHINE FOREVER (MUST MUST MUST HAVE) Overfloater Bootcamp OK, thats not many songs and it isn't gonna make an album but I think those need to be included. I don't want to think about B-sides because most of the ones I like are covers and I wouldn't include those on a greatest hits. As for the packaging. The booklet should be a double gatefold or a big bunch of pics of the band (don't forget HIRO). The disc should have some art on it too. Maybe the first 100,000 could have a gold disc and the rest could be a normal version of the art (whatever it may be) Not just a silver thingy that says SOUNDGARDEN in black. Maybe the cover could be upside down or be one of those things you hold up to a mirror. Right after they broke up, and for quite some time after that. I have two little kids, and I knew if I listened I would fall apart, and since I have to take care of the kids I was afraid to listen. And I couldn't start listening again until I got a copy of some boots from a SOMMS friend and felt that I needed to, since she took the time to tape them for me. That was, what, maybe a month after the breakup, certainly several weeks. I just couldn't bear it, not out of anger, but out of fear that I wouldn't be able to pull myself together. And then for a while all the songs, especially the ones from DOTU took on new meaning for me (Zero Chance just tore me apart). Other than that black period there has never been another time I couldn't listen to them (except, of course, like Jen said, when my husband and I are making love - for the same reason, Jen ;) ). Kathie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Aug 1997 00:34:49 -0500 From: NIKI FREER Subject: Greatest hits a la niki (warning:LONG) way to go seth, what a good thread. If i were in charge, huh? Well, if it were up to me to help choose out what would make a SG "greatest hits" type release, then it would have to be totally packed with all the hidden treasures of the SG collection '84 to '97. black hole sun, (how beautiful this song strikes me as being) much to the chagrin of many of you, would be a must. but i'd actually reccommed throwing the live version that Chris did on the last tour. Preferably the version from the Fairfax, VA show on 11/20. what an awe-inspiring version this one was. absolutely tear-jerking. but on to my ideas of packaging... First, i think the thing should be called "Louder Than Fuck" because they never got to use that name, and obviously wanted to. it fits them well, it would be perfect. and i think it should most likely be a double issue. i'm all for a 2 CD set, but i'm not talking adding any weird shit like the demos on Stolen Prayer. nope, right now i'm forgetting those songs even exsist. (an aside: does this mean that "missing", "nowhere but you", and "flutter girl" could pop up on a CC solo? it's just demos of CC songs that have no SG content besides himself in them...) The cover... well, the cover would be tough. Get Frank Kozik. Grab good old Frank and have him come up with something gorgeous like he did for the PN video and like he did for that 1992 PJ/SG poster i once saw for $150. wow, that was a very nice piece of art. But don't make it some cheesey band shot. because the band was never just ONE thing, it changed a hell of a lot. Or, give Frank a shot of the band and say "here, fuck it up as best as possible" and see what happens. And it's got to fit with the title, or maybe not. SG never did things they way they should have been done, so it could contrast the title so much as being a flowery thing if it so chose to be. But, whatever it was, it would definately fit the always present spacey sound SG had. But it would also *have to have* the "People with nothing better to do will probably be offended by Soundgarden" sticker from LTL. = ) The insert would be hard as well. Any one else have Nirvana's "Wishkah" release? i think it's done pretty damn well, and something along the lines of that would be great. there's a letter from Krist, kind of going through the band's history in a short, simple way. Just a nice, short summary about SG would be good. (By Poneman/Pavitt?) Maybe a few quotes from the band members. Six, including Hiro and Jason...no, 7 including Scott Sunquist. Just a short few words about what it was like to "be" Soundgarden for the time that they were. Nothing big. A few scattered live pictures from Charles Peterson for the "early days" thing, then some shots (Lavine??) for the "latter days/when people knew who they were" part. Gotta include ding-bat Everman too, because he was part of it, if even for only 6 months. Maybe kinda do a short blurb under the pictures... like "Jason Everman went on to form another band (name here i can't remember) before shaving his head and joining the military." Kinda like endings to movies. They put those little blurbs under a still shot of one of the actors that says "Scott went on to...." ect. Ya know? I like that idea. and it's got to be funny, because it wouldn't be SG if it wasn't. For example "Chris Cornell went on to get caught multiple times in customs trying to come into Canada with Toshiba 22" color televisions shoved up his asshole. Today, he just puts them in the back seat of his car." = ) just cute stuff. fan-related stuff. On to the design itself.....If it were a 2 CD set, one CD would have the UM OK "s." And that would be the CD that covered their days in the 1980's as a band. The second CD would have the beautiful BMF wheel on it. covering their musical days from 1990-1997. it's almost an even trade off there, because there was so much material released by them in the 4 or 5 years they were signed in the 80's as compared to the every-two-years-a- new-album-came-out style of the 90's. what's that? Colors, you say? Simple black background with silver "s" and wheel. easy way to kinda make it known that they're not around anymore as a band, but also makes it look damn good. And both symbols just say Soundgarden and they always will. Release it as many ways as possible. Double LP's on picture vinyl like described above. Maybe the first 10,000 or so have different designs. (i.e. the flower design on the center of UM OK's vinyl on LP1, side A, and on LP1 side B, the godzilla design from SL/Fopp days. LP2: side A- the JCP robot skeleton design; side B- that silhouetted photo of the band on the last page of the insert of DOTU. i love that shot. something hard-core SG fans would recognize and want bad.) Double package with poster? Something along the lines of PJ's No Code release, the trading card deal? well, maybe not that... No shirts... nothing silly. .. no accompanying videos either. Oh, no b-sides either. I love some of the B-sides... but i dunno. it'd just seem... not right. i don't know, i can't explain that philosophy... but i'd rather see a greatest hits without a bunch of B-sides on it. it starts getting more like a rariety collection if you start tossing b-sides in left and right... The tracking itself... well, there's where it gets down and dirty rough. You'd definately include lots and lots of stuff. because i think just 15 songs could not describe SG enough. So, for CD 1, you'd have 15, then CD 2 would also have 15. (15 being an approximate number, give or take a few.) CD1- The Early Years (but it would have a better name) (not in chronological order, but a year written after each song. Let the album flow, so these are just in chrono order for my brain's convienence.) 1: Heretic ("Deep Six" version)- It's not on my favorites list, but it's a must; A classic, if you will. 2: Hunted Down- The opening riff for a group now historical. and a good song as well. 3: Nothing to Say- Nothing needs to be said in explanation, the song itself says it all. 4: Entering- What a great song this has always been, true power here. 5: Hand of God- I love the creativity of this tune, shows their smarts. 6: Fopp- It's just so silly, it shows their early humor. 7: Flower- A single, but it's a great song. Who besides Kimbo would think to blow on strings for that effect? 8: Beyond the Wheel- No SG comp, greatest hits or not, would be complete without this mind-blowing song. Easily one of their best. 9: Incessant Mace- Wow. Classic early SG with all that passion and power they were known for. 10: Smokestack Lightning- This is a *great* cover song! I love it more each time i hear it. 11: Ugly Truth (live)- This is one hell of a song...espcially live with the extended coda. That pro-shot Lolla 1992 video has my favorite version of this song ever. 12: Gun- What needs to be said? Slow, grinding, speeds up to a roar and slows back down; Tempo changes only SG seem to be able to pulloff with grace. 13: Loud Love- Another single, but *damn* is this a gorgeous song. 14: Full On Kevin's Mom- Nothing beats the fury of this song, total chaos in a bottle. 15: Hands All Over- Yet another single, but it's such a wonderful tune. A nice message too. = ) CD2- The Matured Years (yes, better titles are in need...) 1: Rusty Cage- No better way to start off a CD than this riff. 2: Outshined- I can't help it, the singles from BMF were amazing. This song is a personal fav. 3: Jesus Christ Pose- It would be sacrelige to leave this off. 4: Mind Riot- Doesn't get much better than this... 5: Holy Water- Wow, this song amazes me nearly every time i listen to it. 6: Fell on Black Days- Almost known as the first really subdued SG song, it is a classic. 7: BHS (CC solo live version)- This version gets across the sadness of BHS in a much more poingant way; Near-perfect. 8: Head Down- Ben-written, this is a real treat, it showcases every band members talent. 9: Fresh Tendrils- Always overlooked, this song is a gem from SU. matt shows his writers prowess here. 10: Like Suicide- Kim's favorite solo, misintrepreted lyrics, and music to make you bawl. 11: 4th of July- A personal fav and really a sonically great-sounding song. The lyrics give great imagery. 12: Burden In My Hand- What can I say? I love this song, I rediscover it every other month or so. 13: Tighter & Tighter- As much a personal level this song strikes me on, it is also very musically complete. great showcase of Kim's soloing and matt's drumming. 14: Overfloater- Not many songs can touch this level of emotion. Chris is perfect. 15: An Unkind- Another Ben tune, it kicks your ass for less than 2 minutes, then leaves you wanting more. 16: Blow Up The Outside World- Beatle's-esque? Not to me. Very simple, very sad, and very memorable (sniff, Hawaii...). 17: Boot Camp- Honest and exquisitely beautiful, this song ends everything in the perfect way. If you've made it this far, THANKS FOR CARING!! = ) CD1 would probably time-out to be shorter, but they were more "punk" sounding then, and songs were just shorter from them. Kim thayil rules the roost on this one. CD2 is the darker side, the deep Cornell- painted imagery that got videos banned and fans all over the world. Really some of the more resounding and memorable of SG's performances came from these latter years, and should be honored as such. CD2 is long as hell, maybe too long. No matter, though. If a greatest hits were ever to happen (and maybe it will someday, i'd kinda like that in a way), that's how it would be if I wrote the script. Paying homage to the little-respected tunes and the not so run-of-the- grunge-mill compositions. There's plenty of great songs I left off, and probably much I forgot to add... like the segues... OH OH OH!!! idea just came about! In the first, oh, 5000 or so editions stick in an extra CD/LP. this will be the humor that was known so well to Frowngarden. Concert quips from chris, interviewer shots of wit from Kim, Ben doing his random thought process during "spoonman" as he did so often, Matt just being cute little matt. There has got to be *plenty* of stuff to make a limited pressing/release with something like that. Come on, rockline was a huge amount just in that hour... No songs though, but plenty of silly stuff. And some Susan Silver comments too, maybe even Karen Cornell reacting to the band's disbandment announcement on KNND on April 9th. Stuff like that. Or, little 30 second or less snippets of things between every other songs or so. Like when Tabitha Soren asked CC and KT "are you guys metal or hard rock?" and CC gave the response of "we're so metal you can't even hardly believe it." and the "we're gonna put our moonman on the moon" deal... that whole minute long interview is a *riot!* anything from that, anything from rockline, like CC's inpersonation of Matt and the broken see 'n' say. = ) A fan's greatest hits would be stuff that they would remember from shows they saw or interviews they heard or read or saw. little things that made them realize what the band was all about other than kick-ass music making. just SG stuff in the humor they had. i can't explain it, and this is really starting to get LONG so i'll end here. if i think of anything else, be warned that i will post. = ). Comments please!!! If it was up to me, I'd want to showcase them as songwriters extrordinaire: musically, lyrically, etc. Its an attempt to have the world see the side of Sg I consider their most amazing and stand-out in the world of music. I have made no attempt to try to do anything musically biographical (other SOMMSters gave that a shot), and I couldn't come up with a satisfactory playorder. 1. Fresh Tendrils 2. Zero Chance 3. Mailman 4. Applebite 5. Switch Opens 6. Head Down 7. Searching w/ my good eye closed 8. 4th of July 9. Half (I love this song, and it goes perfect after 4th of July) 10. Mind Riot That's only about 45mins. Theres room for 3 or 4 tracks, but the most important stuff is there. I guess I'd chuck in Drawing Flies, Limo Wreck, FOBD, or maybe even Kyle Petty at a pinch. Something to finish with would be good. It's too hard to decide... Maybe its best not to mess with for fear of weakening it. ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 15 Aug 1997 to 16 Aug 1997 ************************************************
