I know this question was asked on the list a while ago, but how many people have ever met a member of the band? I only got to talk to Chris on Rockline (I'm Dave from Boston if any of you have a copy of the show) and I was just curious to see how many SOMMSters have actually met members of the band.<<< I met Matt and Ben ( along with John McBain ) at the OK Hotel at the Hater show that they did on Halloween 1996. I got to talk to Matt very briefly ( he was packing his gear ) but I got at least meet him shake his hand, talk with him and give him the list shirts and hats..... (although what more proof do we need than from the father of Kim??) I knew I knew that, but just wasn't sure how or why I did (probably just my intuitive and omniscient nature). It was confirmed for me yet again, because on one the PJ Starr videos there is an interview where Kim says his name. Some (should be most or all) of the DJ's in Seattle know the correct pronunciation and use it (almost) regularly. > Trying to make the world a better place for pronunciation And I'm *always* an aid to such a noble task!! :) Seriously, ask anyone who knows me, even slightly, or who has hung out with me and had the misfortune to mispronounce a word. Hey everybody, sorry bout that download thing. As I have said many times before, AOL sucks. I never attached any file to that letter. Anyway, the letter said that I would be happy to run a SG Web Ring. In fact, I have already made a page for it and am working on a logo. If anyone else wants to try to make a logo, go ahead. Anyway, my page is not completely done yet, it will probably be another week or so before it is uploaded. The page url will be "http://members.aol.com/SpoOnArTis/index.html" (without the quotes) However, if this whole web ring thing is gonna work we will need participation from the SOMMS members who have web pages. Visit the above site and add your page to the SG web ring!!! It has instructions on how to join. If enough people join, this will work well. But we will need support. OK, thats it. I know I'm gonna get chewed out for this, but it's the whole hill-billy thing and everyone around where I live who I hate likes country, so it's just natural that it really pisses me off. Oh, I just get mad thinking about it. I'm gonna go throw a hatchet at my sister's Garth Brooks CD now. It was during an interview with Terry David Mulligan in Vancouver in '92. I've never seen the complete interview, so I don't know exactly why they spell out their names. MuchMusic includes that excerpt of the interview at the beginning of the Soundgarden Spotlight. Hmmm, I thought this was going to generate a bit more activity. But then, Eliza's sentiment sort of rang true, in part, for me: > i don't think i can handle reliving the whole experience ;) Last week I'd been searching through some things and came across the reviews for SG's June 1996 Showbox gig. I read Caryn's review and then started in on mine and couldn't read but two sentences before I immediately had to stop. I was feeling embarrassed at what I had written. Besides not being able to relay my experience in such an eloquent and succinct manner as Caryn does/did, it seemed as though I blurted (can you do that while writing?:)) out my thoughts and feelings in a jumble of words, and somewhat childishly at that. But I have to admit, it does pretty much sum up my excitement level. I was still so pumped up at the time I wrote the reviews. I guess it takes a while (after so much time has gone by) to get into the "mode" of how I was feeling at that specific moment in time. Yes, it takes a while....but it does happen! My other point, once again to second Eliza's other comment, is yes! Go check out the archives. If you weren't around during the times those reviews were coming to the list, I wholeheartedly encourage you to check them out, such as: June 96 Showbox show, the 96 Lolla tour and of their, , last tour. And probably most especially so, the Chicago Reviews (and there are pictures too!!). And of course, never to leave out the adventures of Shroom hanging with the band! Yeah, those were the days...*everyone* should reread them and rejuvenate our spirits!! (I know I sure could use something...) Oh, so I suppose I should address the whole point of Dave's question, eh? Yeah, I consider myself one of the lucky ones to have met the band in Chicago. Simply put: Amazing. Go read my review! :) I've also been at the OK a few times when Ben's been hanging out and a couple of those times I bought him drinks. And for all of you who've heard that he's a bad-ass with an attitude, he's a nice guy too! Not to condone any negative behavior, but he is a human being and nice guy as well. Besides, which one of us hasn't copped a bit of 'tude every now and then? :)) So, thanks for the question. It made me remember how special that time will always be to me. Meeting fellow Sommsters, having a great time and sharing the experience of a lifetime with them. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way! And my god, I'm glad I went for it because surely, now that they have disbanded, it is something that would have eaten at me and I would have been quite resentful toward someone who essentially demanded I not go. SG will always be my favorite; not a passing phase, HAH!, not by a long shot! Well here's why... 1. SG broke up no possible SG dates. 2. I think some tours like Lollapalooza kinda suck ( except Korn of course and few others) 3. Can't go visit my cousins, all flights are booked ( no SG jamming, :- ( 4. My best friend is turning into a real ohhhhhhh.... i dunno 5. I'm a really REALLY boring Driver's ed course 6. I HAVE TO GO TO A LITTLE school were they treach you nice study habit s and other junk, because of my low scores last year (n 10th grade) But ANYWAYback to music stuff. Do you know what? That Korn song ADIDAS really reminds me of my best friend ( well i should say former, unless he stops being a dork) whos thinks he's all pimped out and suave with the ladies but he really kinda is not. He keeps on saying that he likes SG, but I know he doesn't it's like he's still trying to IMPRESS me like i'm his new friend by agreeing with stuff I only like. Also what really riled me last night he started pimping on my girlfriend at 12:30 AMand I kinda got into a fight with him. OKAY I'm done bitching and complaining. In Chicago when we met them we had to wait backstage in a small space than go up a flight of stairs to the dressing /meeting room. My legs felt like they belonged to a member of the jelly fish species and trying to get them to work was hard. Than shuffling in with my group of Sommsters I'm sure we looked like scared excited rabbits!!! I also stammered when I first tried to talk and than at the last minute I snatched the hot sweaty camera out of my bra to take pictures of the members of the band and Candy's hair. I wanted to be cool, calm and collected instead I stumbled, stammered and sweated!! BUTT I don't care because I had the best time with my fellow Sommsters and friends that weekend! I just told the story to a friend I hadn't seen in a long time and I find I never tire of telling the story or reliving those two days in November!!! OK! so you all get tired of reading it?
