I bought the Screaming Life book (with CD stuck inside the back cover) in a
regular record store here in merrie englande - no trouble. There were of
tons of copies on the shelves. So, to answer your question...it's not rare
:-) Though I don't know if the book is still in print.

I saw the episode when it was first on. Those were the only two
references to Soundgarden.
***Overall message of Soundgarden's inclusion on the episode: Members of
Soundgarden look cool.

In the first episode of "Suddenly Susan", there was a mention of
Soundgarden. Susan (played by Brooke Shields) has hangover and the music
reviewer says he's reviewing the new Soundgarden, puts the headphones on
Susan's ears and blasts the music. This makes Susan jump up and clutch
her ears in pain.
***Overall message of Soundgarden's inclusion on the episode: The music
of Soundgarden, administered at high volumes and close proximity, is not
a good remedy for hangovers.

forwards aren't allowed on the list. But when I got it, I thought it was
a SOMMS message, and I figured this might count as soundgarden

Oh, also, I was flipping through that new Raygun book that compiles some
of the most interesting design from that pub and its sister magazines.
Anyway, when I opened it, I happeed to flip right to the page Soundgarden
was on (the index says page 83, but there are no page numbers, so that's
pretty useless). There was this pretty cool picture of Chris leaning on a
wall with his head. I don't understand why so many photographers always
wanted to picture the guy as if he was contemplating suicide. In a way, I
almost think that portrayal is worse than the shirtless, sex-object
depiction.

The page also had a quote from Kim, remembering Frank Zappa (Raygun, Oct.
1995):
"I never got into _Apostrophe_ or _Overnight Sensation_. I think it's
because when I was 18 at the University of Illinois, they were having a
punk party and these frat types were wearing long underwear and drinking
Everclear and Kool-Aid out of a garbage can; they were listening to
_Apostrophe_ and singing all the lyrics. That ruined my first impression,
unfortunately."

Subject: [irrelevant]The "Power Trip" Album?

a while back i heard/read somewhere , possibly on here, that someone
heard/read somewhere that Soundgarden where gonna put out an album in
1998 called "Power Trip". When i heard this i though "no fuckin way, and
that sounds like a early Pantera album tiltle or something", well i
totally by accident found out the source and who [possibly] actually is
releasing an album in 1998 called "Power Trip".
It seems Monster Magnet are releasing "Power trip" in 1998, go figure,
'spose that sorta connect's with John McBain Being in Hater and WCC and
formerly in Monster Magnet, fucking strange rumor though......the below
is off a Monster Magnet web site, supposedly from A&M
<<A note from the band's point person at A&M Records:

Hi, I've been checking out the Monster Magnet websites and happened upon
yours. I thought I'd take this opportunity to update you on the band's
activities of late. I'm their point person at A&M Records in New York.
- The new record has been recorded in L.A. with Dave Wyndorf and Matt
Hyde (Porno For Pyros, Soul Asylum, MM Bosstones...) sharing producer
responsibilities.
- The record will be mixed in September in L.A.
- The record titled "Power Trip" will be released worldwide in early
1998.
- Monster Magnet have a track "Gimme Danger" on the Iggy Pop tribute "We
Will Fall" coming out on Caroline Records in early September.
- Dave Wyndorf is collaborating with God Lives Underwater for a Depeche
Mode tribute record to be released on A&M sometime this year. He's
recording the song "Black Celebration".
-Monster Magnet will appear live at the CMJ Convention in NYC in early
September. It will be the first show presenting the new material.
So that's the dish. Please let me know if there is any other information
I can give you. Thanks for your interest in Monster Magnet.
Best,
Debbie Southwood-Smith>>

<< the mix is horrible>>

I've said it before, I'll say it again. The mix on Ultamega blows so
bad. Why don't they rerelease it? I mean, every SOMMSter will buy it,
so they'd make money right there. Companies remaster stuff all the time,
look at every Ozzy Osbourne release ever or Screaming Life/Fopp. Now, I
know remastering only smoothes out the analog wave, and that remixing is
more trouble, but all they need is the original tracks, or better yet,
reunite the band (Hiro and all) and rerecord it. Once you have the
individual tracks, it may still take some time, but since they already
fucked it up once, it shouldn't take as long the second time. (maybe
SFSGSW! could get remixed too ohh, ...And Justice for All needs it pretty
badly too)

Subject: Guitar Player

I went through all my old guitar player magazines, and there were a ton
of soundgarden pictures in them. One that I was suprised to see is a
picture of Kim, Ben, and Chris in a Peavey add. Kim's holding some
Peavey guitar sitting on a Peavey amp. That was odd, but I also found
this really cool Ernie Ball add where the whole page is black and the
Kim's picture is in a frame in the middle of the page. I was tearing
out pictures for like 2 hours while watching Conan and then Later, but it
was worth it.

Ohh I almost forgot the whole reason why I wrote this. If you want a
poster of the Peavey add send 2 dollars to:

Mind Riot. I actually find this version to be better than the original. (But

5. Hands All Over (maybe though, but since I don't have the cd I wouldn't

Actually, I believe it's Thigh-il. That's how Kim says it in the
"spell-it" sound file on the Unoff page. By the way, where are those
spell-em sounds from? They're funny to me for some reason. Because that
pronunciation so surprised me when I first heard that sound, I made it a
point to ask Kim's dad when I talked to him in November. I'm pretty sure
he confirmed the "Thigh-il" pronunciation, but it was pretty noisy when I
was talking to him.
Trying to make the world a better place for pronunciation.
