I could not have said it better myself!!!! Mind Riot is my favorite
soundgarden song and is definitely the choice i would make. i love the ending
with "I'm tied within/I'm luck's last match struck/in the pouring downwind".
that is one of my favorite lines from anything anywhere. even just the "I'm
tied within" part and the desperation that chris sings it with... my god...
amazing... but i digress. if this was a Mind Riot gushing list i could go on
for hours. ok, thats just my two cents.
keep
gardening,

Forgot to post this yesterday, but after marveling at the way ATN managed to
screw up, I caught this on People Online, under "Today's birthdays"...

A grungy birthday
Soundgarden drummer

I know it might hurt to say "former" or "ex"- Soundgarden... but drummer??
If I'm not mistaken, Chris was their drummer over 10 years ago...

My personal choices would be Searching With My Good Eye Closed or Zero
Chance. Chris uses some extremely powerful imagery. But Holy Water and
Seasons have some definitive messages and powerful metaphors. When it comes
to which SG song to read as a poem, it's tough, because Chris is so fucking
powerful in his writing style.
All you "old-school" SOMMSters already know my opinions on that one! (c:

Okay people here is a story you can chew on. And before I go any further
please note this is not up for debate and I don't need people coming down
on me for telling my story. I'm not spreading rumors or trying to
fabricate lies. This happen to me last night and I'm simply passing it on
to the list as a "Can You Believe THIS"....
Stacy and I went to a concert last night at the 9:30 club. Side note: we
saw REEF and got to meet the band - great show! As we were standing in
line to go in, I spied a 9:30 staff member sporting a Badmotorfinger tattoo
on his upper arm. Of course I had to go over and talk with him. He is not
a member of this list (but was a member of a AiC/Soundgarden list a long
time ago). We talked SG and at one point he said that most of the concert
he has seen with SG he always got the feeling that the band was not a
friendly group to fans and such. I informed him that I had met the band in
Chicago and they couldn't have been nicer to us. He said that was great
and that he had met (HOLD ON HERE IS THE STRANGE PART) Chris's ex wife and
daughter!!!!! Seems at one point in time he lived in the same neighborhood
as this ex wife and his daughter and Chris's daughter played together. He
said he found this out when the little girl saw his tattoo and ask if it
was for SG. When he said yes she told him "Oh that's the band my daddy
plays in".. When he asked her who her daddy was she said Chris Cornell..
At this time Reef showed up and I had to cut the conversation. I wanted to
ask him if he didn't mean Ben (since we do know Ben has a daughter), but
didn't get to..
So your guess is a good as mine. Was he telling a story (he didn't seem
like the type) or was it just a slip of the tongue and he really was
talking about Ben???? In any case it was nice to see someone who really
had the Badmotorfinger tattoo.

I believe that Chris Cornell is Irish. I don't know if he's anything else,
but I know that he's atleast part Irish.
Peace, love, and SG.

HOWDY SOMMSERS!
i don't think this has ever been up for conversation...but...What is the
strangest thing any of you have seen at a Soundgarden concert?
i'll start off... the first (& so far only) concert i went too was a soundgard
en show;9-12-96(anyone w/ a boot of this show out there?). it kicked more ass
than you could shake a stick at. anyway... after the final encore everyis
messin' w/ feedback & whatnot...then chris (who'd had alot of coffee that
night) puts his woodgrain Telecaster on the stage & starts pissin' on it!!
the guitar was making all sorts of unearthly noises. anyway... the lights
went up and people started filing out of the pit around me and SG left the
stage feedback wailing. wild.

Here's how well my friends know me...they through a b-day party for me to
celebrate chris' 33rd!!! They even got a cake with his head air brushed (to
that effect any way).
A day after chris' b-day (monday) i went to best buy and of course I looked
under sg for anything new... and i found the bmf wooden box thing for $57! I
didn't get it but it said it was "113 out of 1000"... I guess that's pretty
special!
I shouldv'e got it,

I don't know if this has already been discussed, but the August issue of
Hit Parader spoke about repeated rumors of sg working on a new studio
album, to be released as soon as christmas or as late as spring. The blurb
is listed under Hard Rock Happenings. The title is Garden Power. Has anyone
seen the report? If so, please post.

OK, I post way too much so I'm gonna reform to posting only once per day
'cause I know I'm clogging up peoples mail boxes.
Hey I got a great one for that "new thread" I live in St. Louis, as many
of you know, and Missouri is the Show Me State (stupid I know, sounds
like an indecency capital) so Show Me should be the state song.

Being the ultimate slacker I am I would recommend doing a song that you
already know all the words and their order to. If you want something
cool or that the teacher would like, I recommend Toy Box, 4th, Bleed
Together or how about One Minute of Silence :-)
I do have to dissagree with Lance about reciting Holy Water. I think its
good an all, but I doubt authority would approve of the "As your raped by
another monkey circus freak" line. Just a thought.
I still need more SOMMSters URLs, (thanx to everyone who already sent
one) but I now have 3 cool polls on my page, one of which is an SG poll.
Go vote because I'm only collecting 100 votes and then I change the poll.

Strangest Thing?...Hmmmm....ok, i'll play the home game...
1. Hearing Chris mumble lyrics to "Hey Jude" through a megaphone during the
intro to "Beyond the Wheel" for the very first time. Looking back...that
was totally cool...at the time...i was like..huh?
2. Following that song with a version of Body Count's "Cop Killer".
Again...while totally cool...it was strange at the time since I had no idea
it was coming. Hmmm...the more i think about it...it was just plain cool ;-)
3. Seeing Chris sans hair
4. Seeing Ben smile for an entire song.
5. Chris smashing his guitar during Slaves.. and waving the neck like a sword
and my favorite thing...
seeing the silhouette of CC fall flat on his face trying to jump on top of a
speaker stand in the pitch blackness of Varsity Arena right before the first
encore.

25% of the American population claim Irish decendancy so the odds are pretty
good that he is Irish.
