I don't know if my stay here was productive at all. I hope I had a few insights. It seems that the soundgardenland has fallen apart ever since the listserv thing happened. Not that that had anything to do with it. It's just gotten lame. Hope it picks up for the rest of you here ;). I might sign back on once school's in session. This could easily be true b/c my SL orange vinyl does look quite bright and could be called gold but I would *suggest* (i.e., I don't know) that this gold could be a promo?? It would be fairly obvious if it was - and the seller will probably ask for some blood for it! - but I know that I once found Nevermind on gold vinyl and it was a promo that no discography, that I searched, had listed. Steve's is very detailed though, i doubt he wouldn't have a promo release listed if there was one. I would LOVE to have the info on every SOMMSters Soundgarden page (if you have one). So I need 3 things 1)Your complete URL http://whatever 2)A title for the link to your page (i.e. physcho's SG page or something) 3)And about a one line description of your page to be placed next to the link like "small site with pics and sound clip" or whatever is fitting. See ya Dave :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 01:07:56 -0400 From: rita Subject: cyber sleaze endless hours in front of the computer does have its benefits, look what i found (if this was posted already, apologies): _______________________________________________________ Soundgarden's New Sprouts Former Soundgarden guitarist Chris Cornell turned 33 yesterday, and it's been a little more than five months since the band self-destructed, but there's still no word that any of the band's members have taken any of their ideas off the drawing board and into the studio although Kim Thayil obliquely told pals last week that he has "a couple of irons in the fire." All of the former Soundgarderners are independently signed to A&M Records, but as of yet, none of the Seattle metallurgists have brought anything to the label. "You can't expect them to jump right back in. They've earned a rest," a label spokesperson informed us. However, she did tell us that Cornell had recorded a track for the upcoming ambitious Atlantic Records soundtrack for Great Expectations, an Alfonso Cuarn-directed film slated for film screens later this year and starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke. According to a wag at Atlantic, the label has snared the likes of Chris Cornell, Poe, the Dust Brothers, Tori Amos, Scott Weiland, and the Verve Pipe for the album, all of them performing original songs for the score. Even everybody's favorite slacker, the irrepressible Evan Dando, is along for the ride. He scored the plum of composing the end-title track for the movie. In other Soundgarden news, be sure to catch Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme's version of Black Hole Sun on the forthcoming (Oct. 7) Loungeapalooza album. The only thing the Soundgarden guys did agree on during the last dregs of their final tour, which ended in emotional fireworks last February, was how much they liked this track, and they'd play it over the loudspeakers after their last encore as the fans were filing out of the venue. ______________________________________________________ ~rita ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 01:27:01 -0700 From: McMahon Potvin Subject: Re: POEMS how about Room a Thousand Years wide... I was thinking of Hands All Over, or maybe even > Slaves and Bulldozers You can, of course, use any song you want to use! However, since you asked for advice, I have the following comments: Hands All Over is a good choice because the theme is a common theme for modern poets. There are a lot of poets out there writing about ecology, which will help establish Chris Cornell as a poet in the minds of the doubtful. Some people have a hard time accepting lyrics as poetry. It will be easy for the other students to understand the message of this one. Mind Riot has some of the best imagery I have ever heard. The theme is more obsure, however, sometimes poetry is more concerned with the sound of the words and the richness of the imagery than it is concerned with a specific theme. It will be easy for the other students to see what is so beautiful about Mind Riot. (can you tell how much I like MR?);-) Slaves and Bulldozers is very powerful when set to music, but slightly less so when read aloud. You should read it if it's your favorite song, but you should probably be ready to explain what you like about the lyrics. I don't think it's a poor choice, but there is simply less there in terms of poetic devices. The Day I Tried to Live, Limo Wreck, and Drown Me all have a lot going for them. They sound good when read aloud, they all have powerful imagery, and they all have possible themes for analysis. Any song you choose is a good choice, provided you like the lyrics and you have thought about why you like the lyrics. Poetry is more about what you like in the poem than what you can say about the poem. Does that make sense? If not, just ignore me. :) Tiffany /\/\^^/\/\ VC Vampyre Cat ------------------------------ End of SOMMS Digest - 21 Jul 1997 to 22 Jul 1997 ************************************************
