I was at a journalism camp in the summer of '94 (oooh, I wonder if this will have anything to do with Black Hole Sun) and because I didn't have MTV at home, I watched a ton of it in the hotel room that I shared with 3 other students. The 2 videos I most enjoyed were "Basket Case" by Green Day and this "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, which I had never heard before because I wasn't too into listening to the radio at the time. One of my roommates happened to have Superunknown so I borrowed it and kept it for the duration of the camp. The only song I listened to was Black Hole Sun. When I got home, I got my brother to borrow the album from his friend so we could dub it. Then, when I went on my family's annual camping trip (sadly, now discontinued) and got desperate for musical variety, I finally listened the whole album. When we returned from that, I had my brother borrow BMF from the same friend. Then it just kinda snowballed and continues to do so; due, in no small part, to this list. --Long-windedBen Ben Timberlake The traffic lights btimlake@nwu.edu They turn blue btimlake@aol.com Tomorrow. Sorry my friend, unless you're the man who sang those lines, or he or some other person in the band wrote them down as exactly what was sung, your conjecture is as good as mine. Trust has nothing to do with it. >and no. on BOOT CAMP that's interference caused buy some radio frequencey. >it happens in my amp, it happens in many peoples amps. >great sounding speach, however. Yeah, I think perhaps I was a little too deadpan with that. I was just kidding about that boot camp stuff. It was inspired by this book I was looking through (in, you guessed it, the music section of Barnes & Noble) called "Paul was the Walrus". I figured Soundgarden needed some sort of conspiracy theory to mysticize the band's history. -- BadBen Ben Timberlake The traffic lights btimlake@nwu.edu They turn blue btimlake@aol.com Tomorrow. Hey people of the earth (or not of the earth). I was listening to the ever kick ass BIMH part one and Birth Ritual came on. I've noticed this before, but I actually did something this time. The intro is mixed with backwards tracks. I mix a lot of stuff that I play and record myself, so the farmiliar sound sent a flag to my brain. Here is how the mix goes for the begging of BIrth Ritual Kim: His guitar is normal (assuming he is the lead guitar on this track) Chris: He strummed the chords and then they were played backwards. Matt: His drums were also recorded and played backwards. Ben: He was in the bathroom or something This only lasts for about 20 seconds but its there. Just listen to how unnatural Matt sounds and you'll get it. First off, I believe this is a pretty old article as I remember the AIDS test issue being written about here quite a while ago (I don't remember exactly when, though). Next, I don't think Chris is *implying* that he was promiscuous. It has been pretty well established that Chris can be a heavy drinker. Maybe he was concerned about what he may have done when he was drunk or in a blackout (in the band's "early days", before he was married). Or maybe he was just concerned with the *quality* of the women (it didn't have to be a huge number of women-it would only take ONE if she had AIDS). In any case, I don't think its fair to judge him on things he did in his past. God knows I have many things in my past that I wouldn't want people to use to judge my current life-style. And at least he was responsible enough to be tested. Another thing to consider: Chris has been known to embellish the truth. We've discussed how difficult it is, especially in older articles, to figure out whether what he is saying is true or not. There are many inconsistencies. I guess what I'm saying is that we shouldn't imply that he was promiscuous just because he had an AIDS test. Maybe he had it before he got married, just to be safe. My husband had one shortly after we were married, just to be sure, and my husband was far from promiscuous. Chris's personal life is just that...personal. this whole thread is starting to make my head hurt.... thanks for listening. -v. Try Block Buster Music. I saw AITS at Camelot Music (Olympia WA) last Sunday and it was priced, I think, at $25. I'm sure it's been discussed here, but is that a decent amount to pay for what you're getting? I didn't pay much attention then because I knew my computer at work wouldn't run it. Times have changed and I can now see all the things I've been missing. I passed on AITS for the moment (hope it's still there) and did pick up the little CD booklet thing. I haven't even looked at it yet (blasphemous me!) so I can't even comment on it. And one more little SG 'blast' of luck...months ago, no, more like a year ago already, I bought the Pretty Noose single, Part I I think. I listened to it once and then couldn't find it. I was sure it was on my office but I've looked off and on all this time. I figured someone stole it or I did a damn fine job of losing it. Last week I decided it was time to do some Spring Cleaning in my office (Hey! I'm a procrastinator, so I'm right on time! :)) From one of my overhead cabinets I pulled out rather, ummm, *tall* stack of documents consisiting mostly of a policy guide I was updating and various SOMMS messages, digests and SG related stuff. There, nestled in that heavy pile of papers, was my PN single! Maybe not so exciting for some, but when you've given up something for lost, it's always a please to recover it, *espcially* if it's anything SG! Later! I definitely think $25 for AITSU is too much! I tried to find it at software places and music stores here and whenever I went in and asked the salesperson if they had it, they just gave me that vacant wide-eyed stare. Needless to say I didn't find it here so I ordered it over the internet. I payed less than $20 for it and that includes shipping and handling! I got mine at CDuniverse. I don't know if they still have it or not or what the price might be now, but it's something that's definitely worth having. Oddly enough, The Sound Garden also has the CD+ and they have it cheaper than what I paid for it! Of course, I didn't see this until after I already ordered it and received it.
