I got a new Metallica boot today call For Fans Only and on track 18 the band is in the studio talking and about what the lyrics for what would eventually become Until It Sleeps. Somebody (the soud guy I think?) says, "If the lyrics you were singin' were very very dark, (BURP) you know what I mean, if you were singin' something like" And then Lars cuts in, "Like Fell On Black Days" They talk some more and the Lars says. "Like Fell On Black Days" again. See, Metallica knows good music (like Soundgarden) even though Load sucked. Laughin my ass off, Rich P.S. Lars sings Oasis' Wonderwall on the next track and its fuckin' hilarious. I don't know what it will sound like, but hey....It's kind of cute to see the old folk's singing SG songs. :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jul 1997 19:05:19 -0700 From: Raine Subject: favorite solos ok, i've been a bad girl. in reference to my post from last night, i realized this morning after re-reading that certain elements weren't appropriate for the list & may have been construed as a personal flame. i surely don't wanna encourage or perpetuate that sorta thing on here, so... sorry! :-) it shan't happen again. now on to bigger & better (and more relevant) things. my favorite solos are... ~>4th of july- when i first heard this song, i was completely blown away... so perfect. have you ever listened to a song & felt like you just *knew* you'd heard it before? not b/c it was similar to anything else you'd ever heard, or b/c you recalled it from long ago, but something else... it was like deja vu, one of those songs that was *meant* to be made... it was like something out of my dreams. and then, when it came to the solo, that was the apex... the way it soars, like a fighter plane... ilove it. ~>zero chance- so pretty. sad, but at the same time so uplifting. ~>ty cobb- the mandolin at the beginning- can that count? only sg could've come up w/ this- ben shepherd, such an innovator. it sounds like chinese music. and then, after the 1st chorus- no matter what i *cannot* sit still during this one, it just makes me have to get up & DO something. ~>PN- brilliant song, brilliant solo. for me it sort of represents the struggle between the protagonist & the pretty noose- whatever, or whoever, it is. ~>BUTOW- for me to try & write about this one would be sacrilege, i think. maybe when i'm a better writer i'll be able to... there're some things words just can't describe. and there're LOTS more i'd like to touch on, but i'm leaving in 5 minutes. i also wanted to say i'm w/ niki in that generally the slower, prettier, more moving solos appeal to me more, but there are exceptions, like ty cobb. ciao... Caryn Rose), I'd really like to download the TOTD video clips (as well as the SG Homepage ones). Here is my problem: 1) I have a slow 14.4 modem. 2) I have roommates that use our 1 and only phone line alot. 3) I can't find the files through ftp. Since I have a slow modem I cant find a time where I can download 20 meg files at one time. Since I do download alot of "warez" I have been using the ByteCatcher FTP program which is unique in letting people download parts of the file, stop the connection, and resume getting the rest of the file at a later time. Since my roommates get mad at me for using the phone too much for downloading, I ussually use ByteCatcher for downloading huge files, since I can download them in parts of 2 or so hour chunks. I was going to do this to get the TOTD files and the SG movie files, but I cant seem to find them through FTP. ten.shocking.com will let me in anonymous, but I cant find the TOTD directory there . . . hmmmm . . . . As for sgi, it wont even let me in as anonymous . . . Can anyone tell me how i can get to these files through FTP?????? ************************************************************************* *********************** Mayor McCheese ********************************** ************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 1997 18:51:28 -0500 From: Like Suicide Subject: SG Boots Does anybody know of any good SG soundboard boots that are good? I think most questions regarding the future direction or game plan of soundgarden as a band were always viewed by chris, kim, matt and ben with a certain amount of contempt. not in terms of "we hate you for asking dumb questions", but because none of them ever wanted to be constrained by some sort of grand scheme (at least not publically; I imagine that privately there may have been other agendas than just writing and playing music for their own enjoyment, which is fair enough, really.) trying to predict the future of such a dynamic entity and the four diverse musicians who created it would have been not only difficult, but fruitless. why plan your life when you can *live* your life? in their early history it may have been a concern (evidenced by their considered shifts from label to label), but I don't think it was as important once they settled in at a&m. I personally wouldn't read anything into what chris said during that interview. what he said typified what I consider classic "cornell-speak", and even if he *could* foresee the band's eventual breakup or whatever, would he admit or imply that to some radio guy just before he goes on-stage to perform his music? to me they were just the words of a private man, speaking of his relatively private band and the uncertain future that we all face. nothing more and certainly nothing less. ----------------------------------------------- in your real life, treat it like it's special in your real life, try to be more kind in your real life, think of those that love you in this real life, try to be less blind words by vernon reid ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Jul 1997 22:50:52 -0400 From: Kelly Carter Subject: Yes, even MORE you know your obsessed whens....
