I've noticed how most people disagree with my statement about how SU has no powerful rocking songs. I know songs like My Wave, Let Me Drown, Limo Wreck, and Kickstand rock, but they aren't in the same league as Outshined, Flower, etc. They are the songs that stand out on SU, but if they were on BMF or UMOK, I feel that they just wouldn't stand out as rocking songs. Superunknown is the only >>album with no powerful rocking songs. well of course this is *your opinion*, mike... so all i'm going to say is- tonite, sometime, whenever you should get the chance, go outside, look up at the stars, and listen to limo wreck, kickstand, superunknown, and fresh tendrils (just to suggest a few). i think it's best to let these incredible songs, and this incredible album, speak for themselves. >I think Superunknown rocks in a special way. I don't know any way I >can define this using musical terminology, but each song is unique >while at the same time fits with the rest. Perhaps what I'm TRYING >to say is that Superunknown has a coherent rhythm(?). (I'm not a >musician, i.e. I barely play the sax and THAT'S IT, but I know what >sounds GOOD.) It is a good disc to play in random mode, and the >only "skip factor" comes when you want to listen to a >PARTICULAR song. and what particular song would that be? >Someone like to interpret what I mean? i'm not a musician either, and i certainly can't give you any technical explanation of why SU is one of the most stunning albums ever... maybe some day i'll be able too. but i know that i love every song, and i know why i love them- i could talk to you all day about why! these songs have the power to raise the dead. the power to make ppl think, to pull you up out of bed on a gloomy day, to inspire creation. if i were trapped in hell these songs would help to set me free... so much passion, so much beauty, so much truth... songs written in a world of darkness, pain, confusion and sorrow, but which convey- to me *typify*- anger, resistance, strength, revolution and hope (fresh tendrils, limo wreck, bhs, head down, half, tdittl...) this is one of the reasons i love SU- and Sg- most. every song *is* very novel, very original, and i prefer listening to them at random too, or in my own order to create a sort of narrative, or at least a theme- e.g. head down, boot camp & butow (yes i know the latter 2 are off DOTU). i think a lot of Sg songs are similar in theme, *esp* off of DOTU & SU. those albums, they form the soundtrack to my life. :-) .....songs that i can't start the day w/out- ty cobb, kickstand .....peppy/happy songs- kickstand, ty cobb, drawing flies, rusty cage, dusty, spoonman .....revenge songs- mailman (of course), limo wreck, gun .....prophetic songs- new damage, limo wreck .....pretty songs- head down, boot camp, somewhere, toy box, half, bimh, zero chance, nowhere but you .....sexy songs (i think we covered this a while back, but so what)- pretty noose, fresh tendrils, limo wreck .....spooky songs- applebite, 4th of july .....fuck you/fuck off songs- no attention, ugly truth, my wave .....songs that i end the day w/- applebite, bimh, boot camp and lots lots more but i've gotta go. :-) ciao... Yes." yes, this is all true. as i said, CC *did* initiate the project, but it wouldn't have happened if there was never an Andrew Wood that had been roomates with Chris Cornell. or if there had never been an Andrew Wood who was bandmates with Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. Temple of the Dog would have *never* even been created at all if that one Andrew Wood hadn't died sadly. And if all three aforementioned people hadn't all had personal and close contact with that one Andrew Wood, Temple of the Dog would have never been created either. >I wasen't trying to say that Chris IS temple >of the Dog, far from that. There's >just no better song about sadness and mourning. the song mind riot has nothing to do with the Temple of the Dog project. altough one of the most poingant songs i've ever heard, it has nothing to do with the discussion going on. bottom line is, without chris there wouldn't have been a temple. without stone there wouldn't have been a temple. with out jeff, without matt, without mike... without any single member of that one off project, it would have never been created. true again, CC did write the inital songs, but although he can take the credit for making the project come alive, he cannot take full and unassisted credit for the album Temple of the Dog. mind riot ____ little joe, run for the border leave your home, leave your mother and father... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jul 1997 22:24:53 -0500 From: NIKI FREER Subject: Re: Screaming Life For Sale mike the spoonman wrote: >i I found the Sreaming Like EP on black vinyl >for sale at a second hand record store about >2 hours ago.
