Does anyone else think that you can group certain SG songs together? Here ar a few that I have come up with: Deep and Meaningful Songs Mind Riot Like Suicide 4th of July Boot Camp Absolute Rocking songs: Outshined Pretty Noose Hands all Over JCP Flower Beyond the Wheel Musically Impeccable Songs: rusty Cage BIMH Tighter & Tighter virtually Every SG song comes in this category!!!! Novelty Songs: Big Dumb Sex Ty Cobb Full on Kevin's Mom A 10 on my weird shit-o-meter Applebite Half If you have noticed, there is a trend. Superunknown is the only album with no powerful rocking songs. I would be interested to see if anyone else can find some more groups, or add to mine. Anyways, he didn't say much, just said that he was pretty sure it was the drums on Fuel My Fire. I don't know whether that means he actually played drums for them or if they took a sample from a song. I'll get to the bottom of it eventually. ~Matt ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 09:10:05 -0700 From: Fetal Bliss Subject: Re: song grouping > Hi all. I agreed with many of Mike's original placements, except this part: > If you have noticed, there is a trend. Superunknown is the only album with > no powerful rocking songs. I think Superunknown rocks in a special way. I don't know any way I can define this using musical terminology, but each song is unique while at the same time fits with the rest. Perhaps what I'm TRYING to say is that Superunknown has a coherent rhythm(?). (I'm not a musician, i.e. I barely play the sax and THAT'S IT, but I know what sounds GOOD.) It is a good disc to play in random mode, and the only "skip factor" comes when you want to listen to a PARTICULAR song. (Which I will presume what Seth does with DOTU - c'mon, it's a good album!) Someone like to interpret what I mean? Live songs (which I finally got my first batch of recordings - THANKS, SEAN!!!) seem to have the "rocking" quality, no matter what the song. > I would be interested to see if anyone else can find some more groups, or > add to mine. > Mike And mine. For three times in a row now, whenever I am driving in my car and I take out a sg cd to put in a different one, sg has been on the radio. I feel as if it a sign. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Oh. Just in case anyone cares, I found BMF for $22 instead of $25. It wasn't five dollars cheaper, but it was still not bad. I happen to think that Let Me Drown rocks out in a really serious way. This song drives me to the point of wanting to jump around almost everytime i listen to it. And another song that really rocks out would have to be KICKSTAND! i know there are plenty of anti-Kickstand-ers, but this song is a blast of power that's short and sweet and if it were any longer would be ruined. Same as Face Pollution, but that's a different album, different discussion. AND, , i would also like to say that Limo Wreck is a *damn* rocking song. I just cannot get enough of it. You can't tell me, in the part right before the last chorus, where the music cresendo's up to it's loudest point of the entire song as chris wails "As the rest of you harvest the souuuuuuuuuuuuuls!" it doesn't totally take you to the next level... Superunknown the album rocks out itself in a very major way. and that's my point for the day. Novelty / A 10 on my weird shit-o-meter: Exit Stonehenge (lol) Motorcycle Loop (short version) [anyone notice there never was a *long version* of this, uh, song (?)] Musically Impeccable Songs: Mind Riot Holy Water New Damage Fresh Tendrils Like Suicide Incessant Mace Deep and Meaningful songs: Tighter & Tighter [geez, the lyrics alone speak gallons about the man's mind] Slaves & Bulldozers Overfloater Outshined [looking california and feeling minnesota? sound familiar? ] Incessant Mace Zero Chance [how could this *not* fall into here?] = ) so there's my additions. These are just tag-on's to Mike's list because i agree with almost everything he listed. mind riot ____ little joe, run for the border leave your home, leave your mother and father... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 18:34:35 +0200 From: Chris A Subject: small reminder about totd Did anyone read in a previous mail that there would'nt be totd without stone and jeff? Then the radio played parts of my favorite sg songs (like it was teasing me) and then it stopped and chris' voice came on and said something about the band still haveing a lot of power behind it (obviously recorded before the break up). Then the radio began to tease me more (playing segments of songs) and then there was this loud crackeling noise and spoonman began to play! I feel like i was abducted by a superunknown U.F.O. Do you even know why ToTD was formed? It was formed as a tribute to a friend of theirs that died. That means that it was a consent by Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Jeff Ament, Chris Cornell, and Matt Cameron. Eddie only got in by hanging around. Before i go off and give a whole ToTD lesson, let me say that Caryn is 200% correct in saying that there will be no discussions of another ToTD unless you hear things from Gossard and Ament as well, being as they were in MLB with Andy. You cannot sit there and think that Chris Cornell would just magically put out another ToTD album all by himself. if it weren't for the other musicians, there never would have been a ToTD. True, Chris initiated it, but without the pure emotion flowing from all four friends in the group, nothing would have ever happened and no one would have ever heard of anything called Templ Of The Dog. it is purely ridiculous to think that Cornell was the only productive member of the **ONE-OFF** project done that long ago. They have also said numerous times how it was a **ONE-OFF** and will never happen again. There will never be another ToTD album, so stop praying for one. mind riot *sigh* ____ little joe, run for the border leave your home, leave your mother and father... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOUNDGARDEN 1984-1997 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 18:14:15 -0500 From: Richard E Horner Subject: BIMH and Pretty Noose!!!!! All the songs on the EP are definately upbeat, and go well with all stuff on DOTU. I suggest anybody who wants to get their hands on some good SG stuff pick this up, and this part 1 only, haven't listened to the stuff on part 2, but it has to be decent.
