However many songs on "Kid Coma" have just > as great lyrics as "Head down" or "Down undershoe" (IMHO). Just check out true, they all write, but I was under the impression that while hiro probably writes a lot of the music, the lead singer (robert roth) writes the lion's share of the lyrics. I don't have the liner in front of me, but I seem to recall his own private publishing title in front of the band's more encompassing one on most of the song "credits". please correct me if I'm wrong. perhaps my biggest problem with truly songs lies not with their actual composition, but that they tend to sound so sloppy. nothing against the band or their music, but when hiro wrote and performed with soundgarden, his stuff didn't sound quite as...lax. take hiro's material on _louder than love_ and then listen to most of the truly record. there's a big difference there, at least there is to me. whether it is a case of the performance or the mix I don't know, but I guess that might be one of the more peripheral (is it even related now that I look at it?) reasons as to why I prefer ben over hiro. ben just seems a lot more creative, and able to communicate that creativity, than hiro, in addition to sounding tighter overall. I suppose it comes down to personal opinion again andy, just like everything else in the sphere of music. I would personally listen to 'head down' before I listened to anything on the truly record. but keep in mind that I prefer it not just because of the ben-hiro thing, but because of a large range of factors (the differences in mix and my own bias being only two). ----------------------------------------------- in your real life, treat it like it's special in your real life, try to be more kind in your real life, think of those that love you in this real life, try to be less blind words by vernon reid ---------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 1997 03:14:42 -0400 From: Jenny Grover Subject: WWC/Soundgarden friends The Wellwater Conspiracy cd is available now. I've had mine since June 3rd. You can order it from Third Gear Records (their web page has not been updated since the release, but their mailing address and e-mail are there) for $10 post paid, US. Their site is at www.rust.net/~herv/ As for SG friends, my friends have mostly never even heard of SG. If they have, it's mostly been from me. My friend who owns a record store knows of them, of course, but he's not really into them and doesn't know too much about them. I do get tired of him making Capt. Morgan jokes about Chris. I did have one friend who was into them, but he moved away. My husband isn't interested in talking about them and doesn't pay much attention. I probably drive my mom nuts (she does at least like Fresh Tendrils, but she isn't really into them and doesn't live around here anyway). So, that leaves you guys plus my non-list e-buddies, all of whom I met trading. It's a lonely town for 'gardeners, which is why it was so cool talking to the carpet cleaning guy. I'll leave you with a SG moment-- try driving through the middle of a raging thunderstorm while listening to HIV Baby!! Are they into Soundgarden? The people that I hang around with like Soundgarden, but not as much as I do. One of my friends understands about how I feel about SG since she feels the same about Metallica. She likes SG too. We can talk about SG and Metallica for hours without annoying each other, but there are some of my friends who don't like it when I talk about them and roll their eyes when I talk about them. They just can't understand how us SG fans feel. It sucks, but oh well, it's their loss. They are the ones who are missing out on great music. I hope you can find some people that you hang out with who share your appreciation for SG. Peace, love, and SG. However, I think a greatest hits album is a stupid idea BECAUSE wiht Soundgarden I would include every single song save 2 or 3. PLUS, How many of you out there have bought Greatest Hits albums from other bands and said to yourself, "Why the fuck is this song on here? This song sucks" OR How come this song is on here, but not this song, this song, & this song?" The only cool thing a bout a SG G hits album would be, with the trend of the 90's, there would be 3 or 4 *NEW* songs just so people would buy it. That would make me a happy camper. Turns out we've been to all the same concerts (on the same days!). We sat there talking about their music and our favorite songs and my friends just stood around rolling their eyes like 'there she goes again'. It was really cool talking to someone who understands what the hell I'm talking about. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 1997 17:51:14 -0700 From: Jonathan Pittman Subject: DUOTU SoMmStErS, I'm sitting here listening to DUOTU, I think it's a pretty good cd but then again I'm partial to soundgarden so maybe I don't judge it fairly. I'm in Ohio but I bought the cd in Sydney, Australia right after seeing them at the Big Day out and then in concert by themselves. I never thought that it'd be the only two times I'd ever see them.I'm glad I did though, cause they put on a pretty damn good show, let me tell ya. About the price of it though..I paid $30 Australian dollars for it which is pretty damn expensive. BUT! Yeah there's a but there!s When I bought the cd, they gave me a free sampler which had lots of different bands on it, so that was cool. It was sort of strange, cause I bought the wrong cd at first...the DOTU by itself. So, when I realized that I called them and they told me to come in and get the other one. I went in and they gave it to me, but it was the last one they had and the cd's weren't in the case, but I didn't realise that until I got back to my hotel. *grin* So, I called them up again and the told me to come back in once again to get the discs! When I went in and got them they gave me ANOTHER sampler cd!!! So, I ended up getting 4 cd's for $30, and I don't think that's too bad of a deal at all. I really like the combo, and the fact that they were actually MADE in Australia made them all the better. I think it's a great combo and if you can't get a good price on them, well they're worth it anyway and I recommend them to any Soundgarden fan very highly. Ok, I hope I didn't bore you to death with my little story there. If anyone can help me, I'd like to find an acousic version of Black Hole Sun. When I saw them in Sydney, Chris did this version of the song and it was soooo dark and spooky, I LOVED IT!!! If anyone knows where I can find this song..I would love it I really would. OH, on the 17th I'm going to go see Ozzfest...I've heard good things about it..anyone care to give any input on it? Ok, later sommsters!!! _____________________________________________________________________ Sent by RocketMail. One note: the tracks are poorly cut on the main disc (they are fine on DUOTU, though), so keep your original DOTU disc. Unless you're one of THOSE people who use it as a frisbee or whatever... sigh... > If anyone can help me, I'd like to find an acousic version of > Black Hole Sun. I think this is the right oportunity to write something here in the list. I live in Brazil, and sometimes I think I'm the only person here who loves soundgarden. The CD stores doesn't have their albuns and I never find a t-shirt or any stuff related to soundgarden. This list and the web sites are the only source I have. I never talk to anybody who knows about them, just have a few friends who whatched the BHS video on MTV once or maybe twice.
